I hope you enjoy this tutorial on making these chickens. Maybe this will inspire you to create your own concrete art. Let me know if you have questions or ideas for me. check out my instagram / vennasnature
Hello Robbin😊 Thank you for viewing and your kind comments. Do you create as well? What do you do creatively? Where are you in the world? If you would like to connect and share your creations you can find me on Instagram Vennasnature😊 I am preparing another video to post hopefully tomorrow 😊 It has been a while.
Very, very cute. I used to sculpt with polymer clay, then turned to sketching and drawing when the clay got too pricey. I would love to try this. I’m guessing that you left the stocking in place? And did you use a sealant over the top of the painting? I just LOVE this! You ARE an artist, m’dear. 😍
Thank you so much for your video! I have an idea for garden decor that I can't find anywhere else and have been trying to find a method to make it myself. I also think getting into clay might be expensive for me and the whole kiln thing.. anyhoo. Thanks for sharing your expertise!
Oh. My idea is to make little forest sprites from a Zelda video game. I have two young boys and we love to play together. I thought they'd get a kick to have these little creatures around our garden :) Especially if I move them around different hiding spots. :D
I am still working on getting it to work for me. I do not no why it is so hard for me to get it right. Made first chicken and cement was to watery but tried to make anyway didn’t want to waste. But neck was to skinny and broke. 2nd one cement was goo but I guess neck was still to skinny and broke . 3rd. One cement good , I think I got neck fat enough but waited to long to take sock off came off in pieces. Couldn’t get it all off. . I will keep trying and hope I can get one made. Can I make a suggestion? It would have helped me in making these. In your videos measure out your cement and say this amount will make this size chicken. It would help newbies. Also time limit u have to take sock off would help. And warn us on how heavy these are when you have to hang them up. Thank you want to see so much more. I have more questions but won’t hit you all at once lol. Just love your personality you seem like you would be the best friend to someone. I would love to craft with you. It would be full of laughs. Have great day. Mara
These are wonderful and fun .What do you make the eyes and cone etc out of that you are able to fix it to the already cured cement without worry of them falling off
Oh wow! Thank you for your comment. I hope you find value in my silliness. I am currently editing two more concrete project videos. Let me know if you have any questions😊 what projects are you hoping to make?
I absolutely love all your cement work but I’m afraid I have one gripe. Can whoever edits your videos can you please make it full screen rather blurry on the sides. I’m having trouble seeing your videos 😩 But am so in love with your chooks and gnomes
Thank you for your comments. Thank you for liking my work. Lol yes I will work on the editing. I do it myself and I really don't know what I'm doing. I hope to get better. I appreciate your feedback have a good day😊. will you be making any of these projects yourself? I will be very excited to see them if you do.
@@VennasNature you’re doing fantastic with the editing it’s just my eyes 😩 Yes, I’ve been making papercrete and concrete gnomes and mushrooms all lockdown. People love them and I’ve given quite a few away. You’re a lot better at art work than I am though. I tried to make one of your chickens yesterday but I think the papercrete was too wet. I shall have another go later this week. Have you made anything else from cement? xxx
@@dawntheodore Yes I have made quite a few other things from cement. I like to use cement because I can be creative and set it in my yard because my home is a small space...lol I am currently making more gnomes they ade 33 inches tall. RU-vid video to come. I have made 2 fountains, birds, an elephant, flower pots, daisy stepping stones, two gnome houses, necklaces and a few orher things. Here is my instagram instagram.com/vennasnature I do more than concrete work. Everything on my instagram I have made. Thank you. I would enjoy to see your art work as well. Do you post? Have a nice day.
My first attempt at a chicken body was the world's squattiest chicken..mixture too heavy maybe, the weight pulled it down and I couldn't get any height..I'll keep experimenting! Squatty gnomes rock, so it won't be wasted. Thank you for your time and keep the videos coming!
Hello Kitty are you tying the chicken up to hold it's shape until it is set as you make the head features? LOL, Most chickens in real life are squatty. Let me know how it goes. I will love to see your creations.
Yes I tied it up but the weight settled down so the bottom was pretty broad, I think I need to add lighter aggregate like perlite. I'll keep experimenting, lol, maybe the stocking was too big? I'm gonna try your papercrete recipe next, I love your flower pot gnomes! Thank you for replying!
It's what I use. But if that is not what you have, expetiment😁 That's what I did to figure out my process 😁 Thanks for viewing Share with me your creations I will be so excited 😁
I can’t wait to make one! Would you be able to give me the formula for the concrete? I know the concrete and said is a one to one ratio. What else are you using? Also… how much do you typically mix up for one chickenz
You don't take the stocking off? Do you put another layer over it or just paint right on the stocking? I just made a small chicken body and absolutely could not get the stocking off! Maybe I waited too long (2 days)... P.S. I love your videos!!
Hello Julie, Thank you for your question. I should make a video about this. But for now I will respond to you :) It all depends. On the chickens I use Kilz Primer then outdoor paints I also use spray paint with primer included Rustoleum brand. The Kilz gives a smoother finish. On other creations I use the outdoor paints right on the cement. I also use spray paint with primer included Rustoleum brand. But you can begin with Kilz primer on these other creations as well. Let me know if this answers your question. Have a great day!
Hi Gisella, yes I always underpriced myself. I have learned what my items can bring financially as I have placed them in stores and I see what the store is asking and people are paying the price. So first have confidence in your art. Then we need to calculate ALL expenses materials, drive time, research time, packaging time, shopping time, mileage, utilities etc. Then what do you need per hour. These chickens with polka dots I sell for $25 each If there are elaborate flowers they are $65. Supplies are minimal for these chickens it is mostly my time involved. I hope this helps. If you know other creators near you ask them how they do it.😁
Hello Mary Thank you for your question and for viewing my video. I am very excited to see the chickens you create, be sure to share them with me. The answer is Yes. You can use ANY PAPER to make your papercrete. You just want to be sure it will blend up very fine into the slurry. Good luck Mary😊
@@VennasNature I have seen some awesome chickens made with them but used with clay for the beaks, eyes, etc. I think it would help make them a little lighter. I will try and let you know!
They would be lighter for sure. Do the gourds hold up well in the weather? I use cement so the chickens can sit out in the garden. I hope you will send me a link to your creations😊
Yes, they seem to be okay here, but it might be an issue in a wet area. I think they might mold. Arizona seems to be fine. I do seal them when I am done.
Hello Miss Mary Mack😄 it all depends on the application. The chicken body is made with sand, perlite and portland cement. The wings and comb and wings I will use cemental or papercrete. Cenental is a mix of cement and fine sand. Portland Cement needs to have sand added to it. Does this help?
Artminds outdoor Paint or Modern Masters Front Door Paint. I also use either Rustoleum Ultra Cover Clear spray paint to seal or Minwax waterbase Polycrylic protective finish. 👍😊
OMG! I must have done something wrong. Mine smelled so strong of ammonia and bleach combination it burned my eyes through my goggles what did I do wrong?
@@jennydownam4574 So did you only experience this with this paper muxture? How about the concrete mixture that I filled the stocking with to make the body of the chicken? Maybe for the papercrete use less of the portland cement and add a little fine sand. I am glad you are using safety precautions using goggles and gloves. I am going to check out why you are experiencing that odor.
@@jennydownam4574 Oh wow really? I am glad you figured it out. I will put this bit of information in my discription. You can use any old paper to make the paper pulp out of. Thank you for checking in. will you send me the link where you will post your creation? I will be very excited to see it😊
