I will use this as a starting point to make a solid cleansing "balm" bar. I want something that is not considered a liquid so it could bypass tsa liquids rule. Could prove tricky but it's worth a shot. I'll give this recipe a shot as well even if my experiment fails. I'm trying to move away from using micellar water. I like cleansing oils but I'm looking to try something that would offer a more luxurious skin feel and experience.

I don't recommend this swap; I didn't use coconut oil, I used FRACTIONATED coconut oil, and they are quite different. Please look them up in the Humblebee & Me DIY Encyclopedia (www.humblebeeandme.com/diy-encyclopedia/) to learn more. It is not a good idea to use something solid, like shea butter, instead of something liquid in a formulation where melting point is very important. Happy making!

I really love cleanser with clay and oils, but i was thinking about the comedogenic level of coconutoil. Most in my family have skin problems and i am not sure if the coconutoil is a good idea then. I mostly just use it for the dry bodyparts or for soaps. Can you tell me more about it?
@HumblebeeAndMe
@HumblebeeAndMe Год назад
Hi Erika! Fractionated coconut oil is not coconut oil, so no worries there. You can learn more about it in the free Humblebee & Me DIY Encyclopedia (www.humblebeeandme.com/diy-encyclopedia/) :) Additionally, comedogenic ratings really aren't all that helpful when determining if a product will clog pores. Lab Muffin has a fab video & blog post on this :) But the general gist is: your face isn't a rabbit ear + the overall formulation really matters. Happy making!

@HumblebeeAndMe
@HumblebeeAndMe 2 года назад
Hi Hasti! You can increase the cetearyl; how much will depend on how hot it is where you live. I'd start with 5-10%. For graininess; are you sure your clay is smooth? I also recommend watching these videos: Why is my body butter melting? ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-M8HwCjsB23A.html Why is my body butter grainy? ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-ZjeBoBQxMgc.html 6 body butter mistakes most newbies make (and how to fix them) ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-HVibr-ESEgY.html Body butter and cleansing balms have a lot of formulation cross-over, so these should help :)

Can I substitute cetearyl alcohol with beeswax? And can I used Glyceryl Stearate (and) PEG-100 Stearate as emulsifying wax nf in the formula together with beeswax? Can we get the same balm to milky cleanser?
@HumblebeeAndMe
@HumblebeeAndMe 2 года назад
I really REALLY do not recommend making the beeswax swap. Beeswax does not rinse off the skin very well, and will leave your face feeling really sticky/tacky and not clean. Glyceryl Stearate (and) PEG-100 Stearate could work as an alternative to emulsifying wax NF, but you won't need as much. Probably only about half as much, and then you should replace the other half with more cetearyl alcohol.
@sobeast734
@sobeast734 2 года назад
@@HumblebeeAndMe thank you for your reply. Actually the task given to me is to make balm to milky cleanser with mineral oil free, alcohol free, petroleum free, sulfate free, fragrance free, paraben free and non comodogenic. 1. Is cetearyl alcohol considered as alcohol? I know cetearyl alcohol is fatty alcohol but because the word alcohol is there so will that makes the product cannot claim alcohol free? 2. Can I used carnauba wax instead? Together with glyceryl stearate and peg100 stearate as the emulsifying wax nf. Is that combination good enough? 3. I've read your blog (but not all). I need to add gum to thicken the balm if used glyceryl stearate and peg100 stearate as the emulsifying wax nf. How much percentage should I used in the formula? I'm sorry for the many questions. Hope you won't mind to answer my questions pleaseeeee

I think your opinion comes from your very limited experience with cleansing balms. Even a quick Google search will show you that there are expensive cleansing balms that have very similar textures to this. Being "harsh" must be a Canadian thing because right now I'm attempting to make a harder and solid cleansing "balm" bar out of this. 🤣
