DIY - CUB CADET LTX 1046 KW Drive Belt Replacement 

All you needed was a pipe wrench to hold on to that drive pulley while loosening the 5/8 bolt. That would’ve prevented you from going crazy and saved you a lot of time. I’m doing the same thing on my lawn more today and hopefully the rest of your video will prove helpful to me.

An air or electric impact breaks the 5/8 bolt loose without having to hold the motor. No need to remove battery. All can be done from underneath. If the pulley is stuck on the shaft the 3 tabs can be bent back slightly to get the belt on, just make sure to bend them back.

Also, For anyone who doesn’t have the KW version of this series, for the pulley under the fan I recommend taking the fan off because (at least on mine) there is a safety bracket preventing you from wedging the belt into the pulley, but with the fan removed the pulley pulls away from the bracket and allows the belt to easily be put on, it was just one 3/4” bolt holding the fan in place

My LTX 1046 has the Kawasaki 20 hp motor and the engine shroud comes off much easier by loosening 5 cover bolts (leave in but just loosen and removing the upper screen by taking out three screws on top that are easily accessible. Thanks again - great video!

Use your leaf blower after each time you mow to clean the debris that accumulate on top of the deck.

Thanks, didn't know to use a screwdriver in the flywheel hole to stop the engine crank from turning. Alternatively, remove the spark plug, rotate the flywheel to move the piston to bottom of its stroke, then put about a foot or so of 3/8 inch diameter rope into the spark plug hole, hold the rope with your finger at the spark plug hole to prevent it from being shoved out as the flywheel is rotated to the top of its stroke. The rope stops the piston from moving which in turn stops the engine crank from turning. Then remove the engine crank / deck belt pulley bolt. Also, safety first, first thing would be to remove the battery to prevent accidental starting of the engine. BTW, really enjoyed the music! Oh, forgot to say, after re-installing the engine crank pulley and PTO clutch, remove the rope and screw the spark plug in.

Just did my belt also and noticed the belt was rubbing against the steering shaft and could be part of the reason for the failed belt. I also replaced the steering bushing and gear. With the steering shaft out, you can see the drive belt is routed through the same location as the shaft. There's no room for adjusting it to provide more space. Bad design? Wish I could attach the photo I took of it.

I seem to have started a Lesco walk behind mower collection. I think the deck used on the floating deck Lescos is kin to Cub Cadet. They may have used the same deck on some models way back....but I sure have it lucky compared to you when it comes to changing belts. It takes just minutes on a walk behind. You could also drop the mount bolts and move the motor over enough to get the belt off. Easily moved back in place

I have the same mower as you and the Cub Cadet website says I need 954-04207. But it seems to not be long enough maybe? I cannot get it to the front pulley. The belt you have 954-04297 says it will not fit my mower. (LT1046kw). Same as yours, right?

I should have watched a few more minutes of your video before I made a comment because I see you have the electric clutch and I do not so I had an area to put a pipe wrench on to hold it while loosening the 5/8 bolt to remove the drive pulley.
