Awesome job the design really matches the Speedle, headliners require a lot of patience and coordination and you nailed it! Cant wait to see what you do next!
Looks good. Gluing the backing on helps to stop condensation and rust. I have new carpets to install in my Humber Hawk. I'm looking for the right underlay to allow for a smooth surface.
Why didnt you start with a layer of sound deadening mat? You would really notice a difference. Nice job, your my final inspiration to tackle my freshly painted Karmann aghia custom headliner..
Depending on the type of sound deadening mats, some of those adhesives don't adhere well while fighting gravity/ heat. They do have a few out there that are great. But the carpet liner is actually the exact same material that they put in most headliner kits. But I always love to try to do stuff that I can easily access so that I can share, it also helps if you are in a pinch!
awesome 👍👍😎 hey Caroline I think you'd really dig the 55-in wide 10 ft long headliner made of houndstooth material I custom installed in my 70 Monaco and no I never want to do that again vws after this only 🤣🤣🤣
you can use too much glue if you want one headliner material that works fantastic is plaid felt the felt grabs the glue really well and it doesn't sag no matter what just spray enough glue
Great job!! I would be interested to hear how you feel about the sound deadening padding now that you have "lived" with it this long. I will be starting my '74 Super project this winter and I want a headliner installation similar to what you have done with a more basic black or blue fabric. I want to get rid of the hollow "tin can" sound and feel with the factory headliner removed.
Well let me tell you, I am super impressed with it! The sound deadening is fantastic! The glue & everything has held up so well too! Very very very happy with the outcome of this one!
Yes! We custom cut panels that are a similar shape to the area, which were cut from an MDF board. It’s very similar to particle board & is readily available at most hardware stores
@@HHWheels shoot that is good enough for me. I've been wanting to redo my headliner but I have never done it and I'm too scared of messing it up but I seriously love the look of just that roof part being headlined and I like that bare metal look on the edges. I going to do this today! Thank you so much!
Thank you! I’m so glad this video can help you out! It has held up SO WELL, since the install. I haven’t had any issues and it does deaden the sound quite well!
That looks really good! We'll have to replace the factory headliner on one of our Bugs and this looks like an excellent way to do it. By the way, factory headliners burn surprisingly well when they get welding sparks on them! 😂
Thank you! I had the name before I had the car, ironically. So glad you enjoy the fabric! I love it as well!! Never thought of batique, but you are so right!
