When designing the small kitchen in the Meadow House, we decided it would be best if we do our own custom range hood to fit the aesthetics of the house and the color of the stove. Sander wanted to use microcement, which is what he used for the custom shower floor in the Meadow House. Since that time, he took a couple workshops using microcement to make him more proficient with the materials. That being said, it was still a bit of trial and error to get it just right, but we think we got there. Now all that's left is installing it in the Meadow Home after all the kitchen furniture is complete and installed!

Sander's sandbox is now FULL of 'toys.' He even has some of yours. It's a luxury to have many solutions within reach and a good neighbor. The color is great! Congrats Sander! You've done it again! Beautiful! Gotta see the update of Sander's technical travels. 😊

Sander did a great job! For doing these projects for the first time, he takes his time in research, testing products, using common sense and most of all, have patience. He's learning through trial and error...and in the end, will have valuable knowledge and skills for future projects. He's a good man! I can't wait to see how the kitchen turns out.

another great video! enjoy seeing you use some of these traditional techniques. i saw many of these hoods in mexico in lots of shapes sizes and colors. this was a great example of how you can incorporate an artisanal element into your home. not only looks fantastic but increases your property values.

Great job man! A hint for bending drywall. moisten the backing with a steamer or sponge with warm water. Don't saturate it just damp. Run in a few screws to form the curve as it dries it will hold form. The is a small mold concern with this method. Solution? After a few hours with a fan on it back the screws out about halfway to allow air circulation. After an hour or so screw tight and finish. Easy peasy!

Nice video. A while back I did some drywall repair. I watched a number of DIY videos to learn. The problem is they were made by pros. The pros make it look easy. When I had trouble doing it myself, there was no information about how to fix what went wrong. I finally got it done and it came out nice. It is nice to see Saunder struggle as he learns. Gives me hope.

Sander, I enjoy all of your projects especially this one. Will you put a metal or stainless liner in the hood and connect it to duct work and vent to outside?

Awesome video, so helpful thank you! Question - whats the color name of the white (lightest) microcement sample you had there?

There are two light ones, desert sand and limestone that I think we had. But lesson learned: There are 3 different types of microcement products and depending on which you use, the colors across the three versions-even though they are named the same-all look slightly different. So be sure to try them out on a sample first in the place you'll be putting your finished product and evaluate it in all sorts of lighting.
