Getting into leather work can be affordable. Take a look at the video Magnus did on what you need to get started. Leather is expensive. But Suede isn't. Also. You can often find remnant bags at your local Tandy or other leather supply store. Great for small projects.

Leather balm with atom wax is supposed to be buffed to a shine after it dries. The heat from the friction of buffing activates the beeswax and creates a water resistant seal. If you don't buff it, you just have a tacky waxy film on your project. Always buff the balm.

2 coats of resist, allowing them to dry between coats, should work. I prefer Resolene (diluted 50% with water) for my resist uses.

Beautiful work, you make it look easy. My younger sister bought a pouch like this for me many years ago when she visited Scotland. It's the same style and I've never used it because I just don't want to mess it up. I've often thought of trying my hand at making one, the actual construction is quite simple but I've never really done any work with leather. You give me enough confidence to perhaps give it a go. I believe Tandy had a shop in Tampa years ago which is only about an hour or 2 from me, I'll have to find out Thanks

I bought the pattern on Saturday morning and was done by noon. Went together well, also ran into the hole count issue but was easily compensated for. What I did was to start my stitching on one end, went half way. Started a new stitch line on the other end and compensated for the hole issue along the bottom. Now I just need to watch all your carving videos because I really suck at it, lol.

I enjoyed the video. As a leather craft novice I am amazed at how easy you make it look to make a product like this. I can make the pouch but the carving is where I make the worst mistakes. Tooling I do a bit better with so there's that. Thanks for making these videos, I find them interesting, informative and very helpful.

Hey! Awesome video! Just wanted to throw out there, in case no one has said anything yet, that the Pro Resist actually works great but is only compatible with the antique finishes. It isn’t compatible with the gel antiques. Also the first batch of bottles they sent out to Tandy were recalled. I had this same issue and went through a few bottles thinking I kept getting defective product until I finally reached out to Fiebings directly and was told what I mentioned above. 🙂

I love using gel antique too, but I've noticed it does penetrate more than antique paste. It'll go through resists, gum trag, and just about anything but acrylic. The whole "wax on, wax off," thing doesn't work quite the same with gel as with the paste.

That stuff you threw in the trash I tried that too and it really made my piece look like well crap and so I didn't throw it away I've been using it to stain furniture and it seems to do a great job I just put some on and rub it in and kind of buff it off and it makes it dark but then I sanded a little bit and I get the color I'm looking for so yeah waste not wanting there's always a purpose for stuff that goes in the trash sometimes

Nice. Hey by the way, if that's a WART on your left thumb, wrap it with duct tape, and leave it for 24 hours. Remove tape, wash hands, dry, and re-wrap it again for 24 hours. Water softens the wart, tape latches to the tiny black seeds, and when you take the tape off, the teeny tiny seeds come with it. Once ALL those little seeds are gone, the wart goes away. I'm mentioning this, bc the Wart can crack open when it's hard and dry, and the seeds can spread to another area and you can also spread that to another person just by shaking hands. I'm speaking from personal experience. Had one on top of my index finger by the knuckle about the size of a pencil eraser. Ended up having total of 13 on BOTH hands bc I just left it. Once I did the tape thing to the first wart ony finger, ALL of the others went away in their own. Subscribed thanks for your videos man these are Gnarly! 💪😎👉

When I have to lace twice through the same holes the second strip of lace I cut a point onto it and put some white glue on it to stiffen it and it laces quite easily with a smaller hole. I use Tandy's Super Shene two times and let dry for a couple of hours between. Your mistake was one coat, which was obviously insufficient.

Ive been tooling the celtic designs on leather myself lately. I like using a basket weave to shade around designs. And you made me laugh with the holes, i recently made a belt pouch. Counted those holes about 6 times, had them all laid out on the plan, marked everything, punched them and was off by a hole which was easily hidden, just like you said. Any how nice work.
