Make sure you put a fine metal mesh over the exposed ends of inlet and exhaust outlet under the van. If not you'll find next winter the tubes are full of wasps and your new toy won't start. Also remember the system needs winterised diesel - don't leave the tank full of summer diesel and try to start next winter 'cos that's an issue also.
In 2007 I did a self install of a diesel heater in our Kedron van.I can honestly say of All the improvements I did, this was the best. We lived in this van for five years.in 2012 we sold the Kedron and I spent approximately 12 months building our VW 4 motion transporter into a self contained go anywhere campervan I was very reluctant to install a diesel heater in the VW , due to the overall small volume of the VW. We are both old age pensioners and as such the Government in 2019 / 2020 due to COVID-19 were throwing money at us, I also needed a little project. The VW now has a diesel heater, and again I can say that of all the internal iimprovements, this is the best
Great video Justin. Cannot believe you have gone so long without one. I purchased a wire basket from Bunnings. Flipped it upside down cut out some spaces and placed it over heater and clipped it to floor. Allows for good airflow and prevents anything from getting to close to the heater.
Hi guys , we love all the vids you do. One suggestion is to mount the diesel tank on the same side as your car fill then you don’t need to struggle with the jerry can and simply top up when you fuel the car.
I've been watching for about a month and really enjoy seeing the world down under. We've always wanted to visit but of course it may be a few years now, still it's on our bucket list. Your channel is providing so much great info for our travel plans.
Just got my first van and have been looking into diesel heating for an long time, had in camper before and would love an discount as i’m very short on cash after purchase of my very first caravan that im living in. Love your videos by the way, always make my family watch your videos because i truly believe and appreciate the knowledge that you pass on through the videos that your family creates. Truly inspirational❤️🙌🏽🤙🏽
Thank you legends. I, ve go the Mrs from no camping to a tent now I have convinced her and we have a camper trailer. diesel heater would make a huge difference
Guys just worked it out, the wiring plug is part of the fuel pump assembly, it is a matter of twisting the fuel pump around so the electrical wiring plug is at the top of the rubber clamp. I was advised by a caravan technician that the electrical plug needs to be at the highest point. cheers
We spent a night in Bright, Vic and froze all night only to realize the heater we had install under the bed doesn't work if the temp is lower than 5 degrees C. After watching your DIY install we plan on replacing our heater with the same model as yours. Great work as always.
@@TripInAVan yeah diesel heat sounds like the better option, we are heading off to Yungaburra for a change in August, leaving from North East Vic so should be a nice trip.
Just fitted one of these heaters and they work a treat, just waiting to test it fully once lockdown finishes. I fitted mine under the couch, made 3 exits, one towards the front another in the bathroom and the last in the centre of the van. Keep the vids coming they awesome and great tips but so inspiring to get out there and also buy great stuff.
Hey guys I would disconnect the hose between the cold air inlet and the heater. That way if something is put on the floor blocking the inlet it can draw air from under the bed which is not air tight. Saves the risk of over heating.
Another quality vid. Thanks. Been looking into these for my old school york reno to keep the wife and kids happy. Certainly better quality than what I was looking at. Thanks for the opportunity. 👌
Free camping in the past meant rugging up and freezing, use to run the gas stove to try and get some heat, had a diesel heater installed and now toasty warm, just spent 3 weeks touring the Flinders Ranges and down the Murry, certainly made the trip very enjoyable.
I thought I might be able to do it myself but after watching you i now know i can!!, thanks heaps for your video mate much appreciated!! cheers Brian 🤠
Fitted one last year, absolutely cannot do without! Going to the snow this year. Just make sure your blankets etc. don’t cover the outlet at the end of your bed, it comes out at 100c +
l will talk to you soon as l am going to hospital soon for heart surgery keep those vids coming as l`m stuck at home for the next 6 months i need to watch your magnificent shows to keep my sanity thanks andy sarsfield
you have never had a heater because you follow the sun. one of the most amazing holidays I've ever had was doing Tassie in June. we arrived on June 22nd and traveled down to Bruny Island. shortest day was the 23rd. the kids where going to school in the dark and returning in the dark. just so foreign to QLD. a cultural experience without leaving Australia. it was cold but it was worth it. now you can try a cold change instead of heading north in June go south.
Great video. Great looking heater. I been doing my homework on them like U and I know U get what U pay for but..... Most of the heaters are around $300.00 mark. The one U have is $3000.00.... big difference. What makes this one you are using better then the cheaper brands. I would love to know by U or anyone that reads this... Ty and keep happy.. 😁
Been watching your episodes for nearly 3 years now and I do agree it is the best accessory that you have bought I would like one in our caravan love your show
Had one installed in our new JB van, it is sooo toasty to warm up van in the morning, and got the van up to 25°C in no time before we got too hot. Well worth it, would not be without one now. PS: we love your show Justin&Bec, watched 15 of your vids all weekend.
Thanks so much for the clear simple instructions on this install. A diesel heater is the next addition to our van - southern nsw is too cold in autumn to spring to be without one. Makes free camping a wonderful option. Really enjoy your vids and watching the kids grow into wonderful young people. Travel safely.
Hi guys, Diesel heater has been in our van for the last 12 months and are a must where we are at the moment, in Robe (Limestone Coast S.A), you will love it and they don't use a lot of fuel. Have fun. Anton & Tania
I have a portable one. I pipe it in to my van. So good for 0c camping on the murray as i do a lot. Also, handy when hiding under my awning when its pissing rain, it wont blow out like a gas jobby. I just point it at my feet, or move around as needed. Power comes from an anderson plug lead from the 4th battery in the 200 series. Power figures....9 odd amps on start up ( thats the max as thats the glow plug to get ignition, for about 60-90 seconds ) drops to 2.1 amps on flat out mode, and lowest setting is 0.85-0.90 amps. Diesel usage on average is about 220 ML per hour, this varies of course as to how high you have it. Still a shit load cheaper than running a genny to use the a/c in heat mode. Lowest setting, has the van at 23c and the test was done with out side temp 2c.... so bloody warm. You dont know how good these things are until you have one. Keep an eye on your exhaust, you may need to insul wrap it with something, as the heat exchanger will get up to 220c on high, but average about 180c, and a lot of that heat is the same as the exhaust pipe outlet. Thats my humble experience so far with mine, Enjoy!!
FINALLY picked up our new van on the weekend after waiting 10 months! So excited - and loving it . . . After our first two nights we have decided a diesel heater is the way to go! Wish we added it to our van when we ordered it - sadly we did not! Thanks for showing us how to put one in - maybe we will get lucky and win 😄👍🏻
Another good vid guys. Haven’t been on a holiday in over 2 and a half year so living vicariously through your adventures. Be interesting to see how the muffler bracket and single bolt holds up after the vans seen a few more kms on corrugated roads. Hopefully it doesn’t get metal fatigue 🤞. Some protection around the under bed unit could also be a future mod to protect it from gear bashing into it on your travels. Love your work.
Uk caravaner first time watching , we like the channel that’s me the Mrs and the dog looking forward to seeing you on here again , liking the chat my Mrs says your cool 😊 I think your Mrs is cool too
The missus and I just started watching you guys. Nice work, loving all the videos. We're in the process of selling our house and doing pretty much what you guys have done for years. Can't wait, it's all we think about now. Keep em coming :)
I was so excited when I finally got a Van with an aircon. But the more research I do, the more I think I really need one of these lovely diesel heaters. Especially if I’m wanting to do a lot of off grid.
Best thing i installed into our forward fold camper, mainly for our little one, we leave it on low all night. Just a tip, crank it up when you first turn it on and before you turn it off help burn the grit 'apparently' from inside the motor or eventually will clog your injector. 🍻 it literally uses Fdj^# all diesel too btw haha i only chuck 5L in at a time into the tank. Ours also came with a remote push button keychain to turn on or off from your beside haha.
We are taking the kids to the Vic high country and the snow for the first time this July. One of these in the van would be spot on 👌. Love your work and videos guys 👍 ⛄️ ❄️ 💯
I recently fitted a diesel heater to our old van and it’s worked a treat. Our muffler has a small hole for condensation to drain from as I’ve heard they rust out if this breather hole isn’t facing downwards. It might be worth checking this out on yours to make sure it doesn’t rust. We look forward to next week’s episode.
Got down to 8 degrees overnight in SE QLD for our weekend escape from the hustle and bustle...not even in the peak of winter yet🥶🥶this would be pretty bloody handy to keep us warm. A diesel heater wasn’t even on our minds when we built the van as we are from the Pilbara. We are stuck in Brissie for the misso Placement and can’t start heading north til August. Might be able to keep our little one in her bunk longer, before she takes up most of our bed.
Sold our old van yesterday and pick up our new one in a couple of weeks. I reckon we will need one of these for the new van. Thanks for the informative video on the installation 👍
Wow great giveaway we definitely need one of these in our caravan ,thankyou for the chance and also we love watching you guys and your kids are awesome ,love your wonderful family trips, take care and safe travels x
Hello Justin and Bec, Happy to see your vid and much more that you got finally a Diesel heater from Eberspächer! The little unit is a ripper! Please make sure that you double bracket the muffler and exhaust pipe as well the combustion air hose. If you don’t use it or very dusty you can just pop a condom over the end to seal it of as dust seal. Viewed all commences and was surprised no one from your audience complained about the price in OZ or praised his cheap Chinese copy. Would also not suit your van btw. My first Eberspächer I fitted 39 years ago to my first VW Bulli ! I should have kept both!! Anyhow one more thing, the unit under the bed will warm up also the the space and dry out any moisture as a added bonus. Safe travel and hopefully you don’t need to use it so often… cheers and safe trip
Hello, well enjoy your video, instruction were great. Love to see the children in your next video, I missed seeing them. Thanks for the opportunity to enter, warmth at a reasonable price is always welcomed. Have a fabulous week. Sending love from Aussie nomad friends🤗🤗😘
I've watched your video a few times now and I just love your presentation, the both of you. You sound like a lovely couple. I have liked and subbed and I am about to look for some of you other videos. cheers from Brisbane.
Life is treating you both well..in the last seconds looking years younger. Bec's face has slimmed ..Must be all the fresh fish Justin is catching. Bec those that are trying to con you to cut you're hair ..let them cut their own. Your hair your choice, looks great. 🥂⚘
The main reason my misses and kids won’t go camping is that other than a camp fire we don’t have heating!!! Looks great and hope I win😁, another great show sharing these type of things.... great work guy’s🤘
Really enjoyed this video, Very easy to watch and you explained everything perfectly. I went up to Bunnings yesterday to buy a 100 mm hole saw, but when I saw the price of them I thought, I'm not spending that much to drill one hole, then I saw your idea of all the pilot holes and a hacksaw blade, problem solved 😉
Thank you for your show very informative product wise and trips are what the average people can do free camping is a must and always do the right thing where ever you are . a member of R and S tours
I’m pretty sure my wife’s going to want one of these when we get our van in a few weeks 😆😆. We just went with the aircon but I can now see it’s not going to cut the mustard when free camping 🤙
Awesome video. Hubby was looking at getting us one. Being a bit older we feel the cold lol. Looking forward to a bit of cold weather camping with one of these. And you made it look easy to do ourselves.
Like you we crank the generator up or use a heap off battery power to keep the wife and the two grandkids happy. Second time around with little ones for us. Love you channel keep it coming
A little tip don't screw the fuel pump hard up against the van. Put the clamps a little further down on each side and wrap pump with foam. This will stop the tapping. Your welcome 👍
Absolutely love watching your travelling and very helpful videos. My wife and I are nearing the end of selling up our family home and hitting the road in our new van and we are so looking forward to it. Keep having fun guys. Oh and a new heater would be great for our new van ;-)
I had to do a double take on the date of this upload, I've literally been searching diesel heaters all week. We've got a trip coming up in June in country Vic so definitely something we need!
@@TripInAVan Wow that’s crazy, just as well your good on the tools. Not an ideal situation if someone was to have a problem with the van either with wait times like that.
Awesome vid. Very informative, well explained and you’ve done all the research for us. We’ll be adding an Eberspacher to our hybrid with haste. Thanks for uploading.
