Im going to try this with a few holes in the side of bucket vs one inside overflow pipe. Will leave plenty of space in a 4' deep hole that's wider than bucket or make a bit of a mini leach field. Forego the stones. I'll use a grid of sticks or tiny table if nec to support bottom of bucket. Also plan to put a strainer basket within bucket to catch random stones...unless a composter looks better!
Thanks for the videos. Brad Lancaster in Tucson has a video about composting human waste, I think you could modify his system for dog waste. I live in coastal CA where the soil is very sandy, so this method might work here, but I like the idea of composting rather than septic.
Hi Steve. Yeah, unfortunately, you may have the same luck I did. Bummer, I know. Sorry man, hopefully you can find another solution...and tell me about it! Have a good one.
Thanks for the video I saw your soil and thought oh maybe this Will work for me with my clay soil but it looks like you had the problem I suspected thanks again for the video.
You're welcome. Yes, I was hopeful too, but I had a suspicion that was going to be an issue. Glad my video helped and avoided you from having the same problems I had.
First of awesome content thank you , i have a suggestion might be a bit of work but hear me out. when digging the hole make a barraier around the poo container a barrier can be made of gal wire and stones could even add charcoal for added space plus plant matter as is flows from the container to the earth add in other plant and vedg matter in as well and could help in conditioning the soil too. this is just a theory i have. i have seen it been used in a differnt manner with the same wanting out come for waste desposal. if you can creat a underground worm eco in a small area will help even more , again a bit of work. currently where i live i have clay and will be doing what OP has done but with a barrier. any one else try this ?
Not a bad idea. I see your point. As for me, I ended up creating a 10x10 "pooping area" for the dogs, crated a brick barrier and filled it with sand. It's basically a big litter box but it makes for easy clean up and doesn't really smell horrible. I put about 4" of sand.
@@lifeisrandom23 thats a good idea as well man, yep its the smell that i want gone as well . big doggy litter box love it🤣🤣 cheers for the reply have a good one mate.
Out of all the dog pop composters\digesters this is the weirdest method I've seen... Why not try the bokashi compost method? No wasted water so no need for a ton of drainage. Just cut the bottom off a bucket stick it in the ground - throw your poop in and toss some of the bokashi microbes on it - you'll have a lot less smell since there isn't a pool of sewage water sitting in it.
I was adding digestive enzymes. It worked great for a few months but the soil is clay. If it wasn't for the poorly draining soil, this would've worked great.
