How to make a chicken feeder: In this video we show step by step how to make a chicken feeder. Super easy! Super cheap! Anybody can make this feeder. It's very easy to build.
This feeder is good for feeding chickens, keeping pests out, keeping rain out, keeping the feed clean, and keeping the chickens from spreading the feed all out on the ground.

I have to tell you young man, you did a superb job describing the project and the concept! Bravo to you. I took your idea and modified my hopper feeder with the two PVC joints. I used 3” PVC. The chickens would empty the hopper and waste a lot of feed. Your video sparked me to build mine and it works! My Bantams took to it immediately. I have 6 feeding ports on the hopper which holds about 35-40 lbs of feed. You should be proud! You taught this guy who has 50+ years on you a good lesson! AND thank you very much!

If you cut a small hole and put the 90 through the hole, you could feed them from the outside. But love the overall idea, and great presentation. 🤗

This is the same ideal as home made deer feeders. A little hint if you will drill a few small holes in the bottom of the bottom 90 and put a small amount of gravel in it will allow the rain to drain out thus minimizing lost feed. Hope this helps. Great video.😊😊😊😊😊

For easy filling get a big square or oblong funnel and cut it down to make the spout hole bigger put the spout in the pipe and pour the feed in.

You said the rain does not get in it (2:17) Great to keep mice out but the rain is going to soak the feed just like in those reversed bucket type feeders. You need to place a 45 modified elbow on top of your feeder and cut it so that rain is totally excluded. Alternatively place a cover across all 3 feeders so that the rain never gets in.. Top job young man.

Simple and cheapest waterer ever right her. Take 2 of those rentacoop red cups for $9:00 on Amazon. Drill 2 small holes in a 5 gallon Home Depot bucket. Install them in the bucket and your done.

The only hassle is in the rainy season. If these feeders can be under roof, but that may be extra costs.

Use the same idea for water. Build adapter for a water jug so air cannot travel to the top. It will automatically keep any water from escaping.

YOu had such a great idea for chicken feeder. Now add a pressure plate for the chicken to stand on to open a cap that keeps rain and rodents out at all times, unless chicken is feeding. A cap that fits over the end and not inside it. I hope I am understood. Thanks for the video!

Great feeder, not to be critical, but using the threaded clean out plug without the 3" 45 having no threads, just putting the clean out plug in will not be water tight (water proof) rain will get into your feed. Great job I like to see the young generation have initiative, and creative and not afraid of work, better than being on some electronic game. Keep up the good work.

Mrs. Anderson the feeders are water tight. But the way the feeders are designed water can get in the bottom. So you would have to put them under something to block the rain.

Chickens love wet feed. Many farmers take the trouble too soak their grains for 24 hours. Several studies show that it gives the birds a 15% increase in processing the grains. I think the tiny amount of water that would get inside this setup would be cleaned out by the chickens pretty quick. It generally takes 60 to 72 hours to start to grow mold on grains. This seems to be a very maintenance-free system. Don't take my word for it. It's definitely worth a Google. 🤔

@@gretchenanderson6419 Sorry for the late response. you can make the feeder water tight. pvc fitting where the chickens eat from the feeder, if it's 3in. or 4in. pvc you cut a piece of pipe what ever size you are using about 3 inch long glue it in the fitting where the chicken eats from. place a pvc cap on the pipe do not glue cap. you remove cap when you feed chickens. that will make it watertight. The ideal place is have the feeder under a cover to water proof the feeder if you intend to have feed 24/7
