DIY Easy Valentine's Day Card with Minimal Supplies #2 (2017 Miniseries)

Are you ready for another DIY Valentine's Day card? I'm breaking out the inexpensive Crayola Watercolors again and creating another Valentine's Day card from scratch! :)
The main technique for this card is creating the watercolor plaid background. I used Canson XL watercolor paper, which is fairly inexpensive and available at many stores. I think Walmart even carries it!
The black portions of the card were created with a Sharpie marker. If you have black paper or cardstock to use for the greeting, you could definitely do that as well.

Wild. I just painted horizontal stripes in these colors for a Valentine's card this morning. I had stamped a pretty arbitrary pattern of varied hearts on a 5x7 piece of watercolor paper and white embossed them, then painted the stripes over it. I did this because God created a stunning sunrise yesterday morning in deep purple/blue with an almost neon red/orange/pink color and I selected these colors because of this. He is always great inspiration! :-) Love your card.

Before you put the second row of black around the heart, the black circles reminded me of black chenille bedspread puffs. They still sort of look like that. I like these handmade Valentine's cards a lot because they have a lot of character and warmth to them. I also love to watch you work, as you have such a steady, sure hand and are so good with hand-lettering. You are a very talented young woman and a good teacher.

If you don't have foam tape you can always use cardboard to raise up the heart. I always save cardboard and that's what I use instead of foam adhesive. 👍🏼

Actually, you should use an apostrophe. It's day for St. Valentine, therefore it is possesive: St. Valentine's Day. More info... grammarist.com/spelling/valentines-day/

The scallop edge you did looks like picot trim. Love the card design. I assume, since the plastic base is showing through on the purple well for your palette that purple is your favorite/most used color? :) Thanks for doing these "minimal supplies" videos!

No. It was thick watercolor paper. I suspect with thinner paper, it would.

For thinner paper try a sharpie pen instead of a marker.

Actually, a Sharpie pen could still bleed through if your paper is too thin. Especially if you got a little heavy-handed with it. If you really have to use thin paper, you might try something similar with a dry medium, like colored pencil. I would think, if you just wanted black or dark grey, even a regular pencil could work. HTH! :)
