Thanks for watching! Please watch all the way to the end and let me know if there's any videos you want to see more content on.
This is my first Electric skateboard build and it turned out great! There are some things I would probably have done differently, but that will be for the next build.
This is an intro to a series Im going to be doing about electric skateboards. From topics like battery builds, to complete builds like this one. I will link all the parts I used below. If you guys wanted to try this yourself, just let me know any questions you have.
I ended up saving about $1,000 dollars over a comparable pre built board. Sure, it doesn’t have the brand of a company, but this feels so much better cause I made it. Not only that, but now I know how it all works in case something goes wrong.
Lots more videos to come on this topic!!
Super excited to share this with you, I hope you enjoy!

Well done! through enclosure wood screws will back out, try threaded inserts, round head screws and loctite 243. Rubber seal is also a nice to have
@ADayintheLifeofMr23
@ADayintheLifeofMr23 4 года назад
Thanks for commenting! I agree that the screws weren’t the best idea. I think because of the velcro strips I used as well that should keep the screws in place. Not sure if it will make a difference but I did use self tapping screws rather than just plain wood screws as well. Part of the reason too is the enclosure I got doesn’t really have a lot of space to get a good size screw to put washers and nuts on. But I like your suggestion about threaded inserts. Thank you for that. I wanted the LEDs to look flush and not be directly on the board but that also turned out to be a terrible idea. The adhesive on those strips is usually crap anyways. So my bright idea was to use gorilla glue to hold them down. Well.....the ESC I got fried and now getting that open means I have to remove the gorilla glue to get to the screws. Then pull it all apart. 😩 Learned a ton about everything on my first build and will improve for sure on the next. Thanks so much for watching!

Top vide pal and the edits are awesome like always here on your channel. First all the modification and upgrades you have done to your zero 8x, specially the lights and the black pain on the arms (that I'm still have to do to mine yet, as can't find the place where do it). Now this new project. Would be great if you would of done a series of videos like a tutorial of 10 maybe, how you have done it from start to finished results. It remind me the board that I waned to get it before my z10x, I think it was named raptor 2.0 from enertion (top skateboard performance and direct drive motors). Keep uploading man, great job.

What kind of battery did you make? Is that a 15s2p?
@ADayintheLifeofMr23
@ADayintheLifeofMr23 4 года назад
Hello. It’s actually a 10s3p. I used a diagram I found online for this build. In retrospect I probably would have arranged it a little differently. It was a little confusing for me up until I started piecing it together, then it all clicked. I’m gonna be building another battery soon and I’ll get into more details. This next battery will be 6s3p. Mostly because I originally ordered 50 battery calls so I could either do another 10s2p or a 6s3p. Curious to feel the difference in performance with the 6s. Thanks for the comment!

@esk8unity
@esk8unity 3 года назад
real question. from the amount of time it took to build that, waiting for parts, putting together , soldering, trial n error. yep was it worth saving the X amount of money? if so , how much did u actually save to comparing to which board you thought was a little too much for ya. im asking this because im thinkin about doing diy too, i jus dont know if its worth my free time or not
@ADayintheLifeofMr23
@ADayintheLifeofMr23 3 года назад
Hello and thanks for the question. The board I was initially looking at was the evolve GTR. I saved about 800-1000 dollars by building it myself. But there are other boards not as expensive that perform around the same as the GTR so that number is really just in comparison to the GTR. At the time I built this board there weren’t as many quality budget boards on the market yet either. The main question you have, “is it worth it?” That’s kinda hard to answer. For me, it was absolutely worth it. But it wasn’t so much about saving money as it was about the process. I enjoy figuring out how things work and how to put stuff together. One good thing about building it yourself is that when something breaks, and it will, you know how to fix it. Another plus is how customizable you can make it. When you buy a board like the GTR you don’t have as much control over the programming……however that could also be seen as a downside too if you aren’t too savvy with a computer. Another plus is that doing DIY you are going to get more bang for your buck. The motors on my build are much larger than the GTR motors so in theory I can get a better performing board for less money……..also with that being said there are lots of other boards MUCH cheaper than the GTR that perform really well. One other thing to consider is your skill level. I was a complete beginner when it came to riding skateboards. Of course I’ve been on a longboard before but never gone that fast. Coming from a scooter that goes 30 mph I was looking for something similar in performance. Quickly I discovered that 30mph on a scooter is WAY different than 30mph on a skateboard. I didn’t need half the performance that I built into my board. It’s nice to have the capacity to grow into it. But for my FIRST esk8 this thing is a monster! With pre built boards it’s a little hard to upgrade say they motors if you want to get more performance. Overall, for me the pros out weigh the cons…….but I will also say that this process wasn’t the easiest thing I’ve ever done. Building your own battery can be extremely dangerous as well. So there is some risk factor involved. Additionally, I bought a cheap ESC to begin with and it went out while riding and I almost broke my shoulder when I fell off. So not knowing the reliability of some of your parts can be an issue also. Now is all that worth your time?? Only you can decide that. I’m sure glad I did the build because I really enjoyed it, but it isn’t for everyone. I’d say total amount of time I spent waiting for parts and building the board was several weeks. But I gained some new life skills…..and to me that is priceless. Would I personally do it again??? YES! Sorry that was so long of an answer but I wanted to be as thorough as I could. Let me know if I didn’t get anything answered. Thanks again! 🙌🏼

@@ADayintheLifeofMr23 ha! yea man i totally get it. we are definitely opposites but i definitely wanted to understand ur perspective on it. as for the GTR, i have owned many of its competitors with “better specs” and none of them was the same performance and quality. only one so far is the onsra black carve 2, and the eovan gts. everything else, wowgoat2, vestar blackhawk, verreal rs 19ah, trx 2.0 lycaon, raldy, ownboard bamboo, and many many more. theres a reason why they r cheaper. quality, power, and range isnt there. sure, some of them might have better “top speed” but skating isnt about that. maybe scooters, sure. high speeds there makes sense. but skating has soo many other attributes as a fun sport other than straigh line high speed. evolve has never been about top speed. there more about the endless wave: however, all u really have to do it put 23-29t pullies with bigger wheels like 107s. and youll be at 30mph. lastly, the gtr was made in 2017, released in 2019. its VERY outdated. yet that old 10s battery still gets better range then MOST new copy cats with 12s. same for there small motors. sure, they cant hand a LOT of friction if ur heavy or crazy off road due to its esc. but those output on those small motors is better than most. id rather the power then not going off roading in my opinion. off roading is a different type of board in my opinion. 🤙🏼🤙🏼

Did it cost you cheaper than just buying a ready made one?
@ADayintheLifeofMr23
@ADayintheLifeofMr23 4 года назад
Yes, it was. The board I was looking at was and Evolve GTR. So that was 1900. I don’t know the exact number but it was pretty close to 8-900 dollars. So I saved about 1000 dollars or more by doing it myself. The other cool thing about it is by building everything including the battery, I know how it all works. So whenever something goes wrong I know how to fix it! Thanks so much for watching.

Plus enough batteries to make a 10s3p and a 10s2p (50 Samsung 30q batteries) for another build for the same price I was gonna pay for 1 pre built battery from them. Plus I learned a new skill. So it almost worked out better that they didn’t ship the battery cause I learned how to do it myself!

Diego Rhi diyeboards parts are not good 🤦🏽. They are cheaply made Chinese oem parts, decent for beginners, but not good. And the mboards batteries are terrible. Check any tear down, they are sloppy. I agree with you that mboards is no good, their customer support is awful, but diyeboard is not a better solution. If you want performance, you want parts similar to what you would find at mboards. Individual motors, mounts, pulleys,etc. The custom built battery was a better route 👌

You didn’t save any money if you spent $1000 on parts.

How much did it cost?

Total cost of the build was right about 1000. Saves about half on a pre build board! Thanks for watching!
