We're back with another prop making video this time DIY fake jail bars for an old western jail cell. Need some jail bar props for a photo op, Halloween decoration, or film scene. In this video we make a fake jail cell block as a golf ball obstruction and scenery for an old western themed mini golf course called Sac Mini Golf located in Sacramento. You could even use this prop for a quick little prison scene in a short film. You can make jail bars out of cardboard or paper if you don't have the tools. Pvc pipe works well but if you spend the money for metal EMT conduit it seems to be the strongest. We show the set up complete with a town drunk prisoner prop dummy. It depends on what you're trying to keep in. The chicken wire idea may be a better option.

I have a question, I have been interested in pneumatic props, but haven’t found any good tutorials on how to make them that dumb it down to my level. Do you guys think you might be able to make a pneumatics for dummies series? If not no biggie.

Do you have to make any considerations for 4 inch or less gaps like on hand rails?

No since its on the floor with no drop. We did have to have everything inspected and approved but they were super cool.

Nice work. Couple questions. How tall is the cell and how far apart are the wood frames that hold the bars spaced?

i will look for exact name but i just used the skinny fine thread self tapping black drywall screws 1-1/4" long they work great.

Why does the prisoner in the jail cell have a wooden spoon next to him? Is that a subliminal nod to Escape from Alcatraz? Could that be Clint Eastwood laying there sleeping off a drunk? Looks amazing, I wish this was near me so I could play a round or two on the course. By the way I don't think the bars in an old west jail would have been welded.

Ya well you know, who really pays attention to correct timelines of when things really happened in the prop making world hahaha! You just make what's cool. We actually never had time to add that detail to this project anyway. I just mentioned the extra work for others that may need some kind of prison scene. 😁

@@bgray3128 In the videos to the links below we have a jail cell with a door that could be hinged on one side if assuming you are not trying to create a sliding kind of jail door. If you want skip through them till you see me taking the door off. I think we just screwed it into place but you can see a door with a plate that might work for your needs.
