Matt, my grandson wife and myself have been watching your videos for months now. I'm very thankful you're not afraid to show your Christianity it is refreshing. You explain everything in a way average wood workers can follow, you have inspired my grandson to get involved with me in the woodshop. I am from Detroit Michigan and cannot wait to see what's next. thank you
Thats AWESOME Mark! So cool you're starting your own business at such a young age! I just turned 51, and it doesn't feel that old! But its caused me to look back over my life and I can see how everything I've done has built on the experiences before, so this business you start at 15 is going to give you experiences that will compound over the rest over your life! Congrats! Keep up the great work!
I agree 100% with what Laura said. I also just turned 51, and having a mind towards running your own business at 15 is amazing. Public schools are run by the government which is greatly influenced by big businesses so they teach you to get an education and work for someone else. The thing is nobody makes a great living working for someone else, which is something they do not seem to teach in school. Unless you can scale this up you won't be rolling in the money, but even so, if you do good work, you can make enough to pay off your home quicker, fund vacations, pay off credit cards and so on. I'd suggest including some finical courses in college no matter what you end up doing for a career. Most people work for money, but at your age, you're young enough to also learn how to make your money work for you. I'm proud of you, and wish you all the success possible!
731 Woodworks I had a major mistake on a project I am working on... dog kennel topper with aprons like a table to capture the wire cage kennel... when cutting the door relief in my router got away from me and blew out a portion of the apron 🤦🏼♂️ but I ended up figuring out how and what I did wrong and got it to look amazing 😉
I'd like to put a beautiful wood topon it for a nice cabinet - not black, though. Very nice job. Am old guy may make this for my daughter. Thanks for all the great tips. . DG
Good moring Matt, I've said it before and I'll say it again, you have a great teaching style. I admire the way you don't shy away from a mistake and create a teachable moment. Well done. I'm going to offer one critique because safety is my thing. Please for the love of your family, wear a mask when staining, particularly with the sprayer. The particulates that will hang in the air are seriously no good for your lungs. I offer this with genuine concern for your well being. You're obviously a really cool guy and I'd hate to see you get sick. Be safe and be well.
Hey thank you for taking your time out and posting these videos, you have a skill that doesn’t have to be shared and I very much appreciate that you do
I just finished the BATHROOM VANITY. I made modifications in measurements to customize my sink. I finished the project in two weeks. I live in a NY apartment, I was so eager to make the vanity that my kitchen was transformed into a makeshift woodworking area. the only time I can work is when people are at work. I always look forward to my day off so that I can work on my project. Again., many thanks. I'd love to send you the pic but I don't know how?
I like how you build. You build practical with basic tools and don't over kill on things that don't matter. All that takes time. The only thing I may have done is run a dado bit around the inside rails and styles to set the panel in. I love you made furniture with framing lumber. I don't fret mistakes like the broken top. I hate being angry. Especially being angry with myself. I rather just learn from it. My favorite parts of this is the color and that you inset the door. Good job. I like your level against the fence trick
Great service, instruction and wonderful advice for the up and comer or like me just the hobbyist who loves building a gift versus buying one. Keep up the great work!
Today I've followed your tip you gave me about this video and the free plans for this build. I downloaded the plans and I watched the video. You like the KISS method even more than I do! I expected the cross in the door to be a complicated half-lap joint. The way you did it is so much easier. Thanks for sharing the video.
You have really fallen into being my favorite youtube. I love your little jokes and your real talk. We love your mistakes and your honest talk throughout your videos. Keep it up man ❤️
I enjoy all of your videos man! Card trick is always handy. Next time try this: Place as many cards that will fit in the top gap. Then split the difference for top and bottom, rinse and repeat for the sides. Keep up the awesome job!
Love your woodworking show and it's inspiring me to build my first dresser. Like the way you explain things and take things lightly, and you have great camera angles so you can see whats going on. (some guy was zoomed in on everything, couldn't see the forest for the trees!) I did hear you say what to do with those rags when you are done and how they are combustible. That stain is not combustible in the can where it is deprived of oxygen... So, deprive the rag of oxygen and you dont have to worry about combustion. i generally wrap mine up in my rubber glove when im done. better yet, get it wet with water and then wrap up in a glove or plastic bag and trash it. i put my candles out by depriving them of oxygen and then you dont have a smoky house to deal with, lol. Great show!
Hey Matt. Great stuff you are making over there. A trick to cut plywood without splitting on the ends is to put masking tape where you are going to cut. That takes care of the splitting on the ends. Also, it is better if you use 400 grit sandpaper in between the application of the polyurethane, even if it is waterbased. You get a better mechanical bond and an even better chemical one. This means less probability for humidity to get in, especially being for the bathroom. Keep up the excellent work and keep on cutting.
Yoooo, the video quality on this build was up to 11 man. The vlogging car sections and what not really changed up pacing and it was enjoyable 10/10 on the build as well 👌
Matt, I’ve been stuck on your channel for a few weeks now. Your content is so addicting and motivating. I’m very happy to have come across your channel and please keep the great projects coming! God bless you!
Great project, thanks for sharing. Also love and appreciate your transparency about things not always being perfect or going as planned. We learn from our mistakes 👊🏻
I used a keyhole / T slot router bit to cut a slot into the top of my miter saw table and used it to install stop blocks. With that set up I can quickly bust out identical length boards on my miter saw.
The playing card trick is a first time for me and it blew my mind! Thanks for another great video. Your skill level is way above mine and watching you be so honest with your mistakes is a lesson on humbleness for me, I am my worst critic when making mistakes on a project and I get easily frustrated because I think I shouldn't make mistakes, so I'm not only learning about woodworking, I'm learning about how to be a better person (oh and the project came out awesome!)
Thanks. We all make mistakes. I am pretty hard on myself most of the time with my mistakes but on this one, after the shock wore off, all I could do was laugh about it.
Awesome build and great video, Matt! Sorry you broke that sink corner, but it’s great that you included it. Probably your best video yet. Keep ‘em coming!
Hey Matt Great job like all ways I appreciate all the info you put out and the links is very helpful for all the new woodworkes like me. Gracias brother. From Cypress Texas your friend and fan. God bless you'll.
Thank you for another excellent tutorial Matt. It's a shame that the sink was damaged but kudos for including it. I have made similar mistakes and found that once the shock wears off I have been able to laugh it off. I hope that you can do the same. I am going to adopt this design for our laundry sink so thanks again. I look forward to your next video...
hey just in case, cool idea to broke the sink into a few pieces and than glue it back together, so in between of the cracks add some colore so it would be really great! like white sink and black cracks !
UGH! My heart dropped when I saw you broke the sink. They just don't make things like they used to. For example, we had a water damages, part of which was the bathroom cabinet. We pulled the cabinet and after cutting the adhesive holding the sink to the cabinet, I dropped the sink on the floor from about 36-40 inches high. The old sink is in perfect condition, but if I were to pull up the carpet, I'm sure I'd have a big dent in the floor. The sink already had a crack running through it, and it still didn't break. That old sink was about 30-33 years old from a cookie cutter budget built neighborhood and was that tough. Not many sinks built today would be that durable. Much like the difference in these hand-made pieces of furniture versus the pressed sawdust that manufacturers pass off as furniture these days. God bless and keep inspiring us folks that are trying to earn a side dollar! I recently had a birthday and opted for the Bosch 1617EVSPK router pack for my birthday present. :0)
Hey brother it's great to see those t-shirts about the Lord Jesus grey videos ! I just built a farm house table resently for my daughter-in LAW lot of fun
Just ordered the Homeright Super Finish Max based on your recommendation. I looked at other cheaper alternatives that probably would have fit the bill, but something just kept drawing me back to the Homeright. I got a second reservoir and the cleaning kit. The sprayer arrives Monday. Should really help on painting and applying urethane.
Nice build!!! I just used the Minwax True Black stain on a custom desk extension wing for the design center. Turned out better than expected. Keep up the great builds. God bless
The integrity level of a security camera is just awesome ain't it lol. Awesome build bub. Might have to try this one someday, minus the $100 mistake of course 😜
Great build and video!! Love the honesty we all make mistakes. I'm going to build countertops for r kitchen excited to start!! Keep up the good work and videos. Thanks for the inspiration!!
I like that you use real, world construction. Funky joinery is wonderful, but who has time for that and most customers don't really care. I'm a finish carpenter who wants to spend his time riding my dirt bike, Not making dovetsiks
Gosh darn mess 🤣 Love your accent and your little sayings👍🏽 Great little build though😍 And yes, if a customer gives you something, make sure it’s out of the way 🤦♀️ I’ve done that before!
Great build, love it! I would consider building the door shaker style with rails and stiles. Would probably be easier than trying to cut that middle plywood piece to the exact size needed.
Safety glasses on the top of head while using power tools are a PRO trick. Novices should wear them covering eyes as splintering isn't predictable and to develop good habits.
Can you share why it's so short? Are your customers going to have this propped up on something? Great video, great product that I think I could accomplish too. Thanks.
Hi Matt. Great job, as always! Don't you just hate it when you cut a board twice, and it's still too short? I did the same thing when building a desk for my son. Granted, it's only my second project I've ever built, but it was one of those, "DOH" moments that sent me back to the drawing board. As always, I picked up some more good tips from watching this video and am so thankful I found your channel! And nowadays, given the price of lumber, I measure about eight times and cut once. LOL Be blessed, brother. Thanks again!
Great video Matt! Do you have the Kreg Plug Cutter? If not, pick one up. I make my own from scrap. It'll help that door panel inside finish with the same species for easy peasy stain finishes.
Wow, I’m not alone.😁 I have made my own blunders over the years brother. I have been asked to make a 30 inch vanity for my wife. I AlwYs brush poly on bc not sure which sprayer would be great for it. I think I’ll use this as a guide to follow order of my build. I’m gonna try and fill the pocket holes with dowels though. For the door anyway. Keep up the good work. I’m gonna build several pieces and then put all on Facebook to see how they do in my area. With Covid and West Virginia economy I’m curious of how well they do in the price arena. People Do love this style though. Thank you
Looks great and great info. I wonder how well it will do with all the changes in humidity in a bath with all the showers and steam? As tight as you made it, will it have the ability to expand and contract, time will tell.
