Just one note, do your cutting, grinding sanding and drilling with the cap off the tank, then no rinsing is required.

PERFECT Suggestion!! Thank you

Or put a ziploc bag over the opening of the can to avoid getting dust and particles inside. Keep the other components stowed away so they don’t require additional cleaning during the install. Also, you can wash your hands thoroughly with soap and water during the assembly of internal components. A final step would be to rinse and prime the whole system with dish soap and warm water, then some chlorine and finally a coulpe of runs of purified water.

Just a suggestion. Completely remove the lid before cutting, drilling or "cleaning it up a bit", it keeps the small pieces of plastic from getting into the water jug. It seems like no matter how many times you wash it out, you'll always be finding little pieces in your cup if you do it with the lid on...;)
@madmouse7915
@madmouse7915 Год назад
The reason for leaving the lid on is because it gives you the proper angle for when you drill. ☝️If you do it properly, it's a more flush water tight fit. I just temporarily tape something inside to catch the shavings, but my friend got his kids to put their tiny arms all the way inside to clean and wipe them out completely 😂 so I guess we all have our own ways 🤷‍♂️.
@themastercarpenter
@themastercarpenter 8 месяцев назад
Remove.lid for sure. On a flat workbench it's easier to drill.

Pretty cool! I thought I would do it until I added up the cost, about $180 bucks to get water out of a 5 gallon can. That's a bit much for a lot of folks. I use a 5 gallon square jug with an on-off spigot. I am liking these daily videos while I am holed up, so please keep them coming.

If the tank manufacturer sells replacement caps, could buy a second one for travel, then swap in the pump-enabled one at the campsite.

Almost pulled the plug and bought the gear for this system when I found a simple $15 USB rechargeable water pump on Amazon meant for 5gal water cooler type jugs. No wires to run, just the water tube! It’ll be more for the camp kitchen setup since It might not be so easy to set it up on an exterior mounted can like Michael’s.

Just made one of those, used it last week, different faucet. Loved it, something I learned I went though a lot more water than expected, was to easy to use. I have two cans just changed out the lids, thinking I may need a third. Great videos learning a lot, Thanks.

Nice idea. Personally, I use 7 gal Aqua-Tainer containers that come with a faucet installed in the cap and just set it on it's side while camping and let gravity do the work. For gas in jerry cans, I use an $8 battery operated liquid transfer pump from HFT.
@desertaip9137
@desertaip9137 4 года назад
Outstanding idea! I've used those cans for years and keep tinkering with ways to put a spigot in them. They aren't very stable when on edge like you need for gravity feed. I've had one fall over and send my coffee flying. This is an elegant solution. I might use one of the alarm system small batteries as a dedicated source since I usually setup the kitchen away from the vehicle.

Thanks for the video, as a lot of us are sheltering in place with so much time on our hands, it's nice to watch good content verses other stuff. Such a good time to start our spring cleaning since our vacation plans are cancelled. Work on my rig, yard, house and so much more. So mu h better to take a break and be able to watch something positive! Again thanks!

Can add an SAE 12v plug (think battery tender connection) and use that 12v outlet for much more while making a quick disconnect for your pump!

Even if not direct mounted to the water can, that is a handy faucet/pump kit for many build options. Til I can budget my trailer, a variation on this might just find a place in one of my chuck boxes :)

Watched your power tap install. Have some ideas. The wire that you butt spliced together can be left in the container. And the remaining wires for the positive and negative can be powered by a wireless drill battery. Oh and love your content.

Guys, that clear plastic hose u are using should really be a “food grade” hose otherwise it will over time go slimey and possibly become contaminated and the clear hose will become cloudy in colour over time. Buying proper food grade hose is the go for long term use...
@Environmenthrall
@Environmenthrall 4 года назад
2:13 you can see print on the hose that says, "non pressure hose for potable water." Freshwater line used for RVs.
@nickopedia5669
@nickopedia5669 3 года назад
"Food grade" doesn't mean it's bacteria resistant, it just means that it doesn't have or won't leech out more a certain amount of specific chemicals, and that they paid for the certification.
@Overdoer949
@Overdoer949 3 года назад
I’m new to the channel but not new to water safety for consumption. I’d like to add to Rob Mac’s comment-if you truly want the best quality plastics for your health, please buy polyethylene products. HDPE is high-density polyethylene, or “#7” plastic. 1/4” and 3/8” polyethylene tubing is easily found at home centers and from reverse osmosis water filtration suppliers. Go that route and protect your precious health.

why not add a filter either between the pump and faucet or on the pump inlet (lifestraw style) so then you have filtered water and would be less ocnerned about water quality when filling?, could also probably find a UVlight to dangle in the can and purify the water that way as well
