Hi there! I loved this video on building your own walls. I did build my own walls however I’m curious to know how you secure the walls to the tent poles, like a “stabar” etc. I built 3 sets of (3) 3ftx6ft panels and put hinges on them to collapse them. I use paracord on the top corners to secure to the post hooks with camjam cord hook tighteners. But there has to be a better way to secure them in place. What do you do?
@lindawetzel7873
@lindawetzel7873 4 года назад
You could also use the triangular metal picture hangers that you screw into the back of your canvas. If you use one on each corner and use the curtain hooks to hang them you will not have to worry about the wind skewing the way your art hangs on the fabric wall. They can be purchased in bulk online fairly inexpensively. I find the wire to be annoying when trying to get the tension just right.

I enjoyed your tutorial. I will be doing my first show in June. I am under a pavilion and I have two picnic tables. I was thinking of something that sits on the tables, maybe shaped like a roof that has hinges on top that you can sit out on top of the table and it would be about the length of the table. Does it sound tacky? I think it would work. It would hold my canvases but the back sideswould be wasted underneath. Any thoughts or advice welcome.

I am thinking of framing pegboard panels. I would still hinge them. They should stand on their own but I could also do L brackets on the back like feet..Maybe hubby will help me..

Hello Rafi and Klee! I love your videos and podcasts because they keep me feeling inspired and motivated. You're even making me think I should try doing a festival again! Your display walls are very cool, and much nicer looking than the hobo walls I came up with, but how in the heck do you keep stuff from flying away?! I've done a total of two outdoor art festivals, and while the first one went ok - I didn't sell anything, but I did meet a bunch of nice people - the second was a total disaster because of wind. I had weights, cinder blocks, velcro, duct tape, zip ties, stakes, and rope. I even tried canopy 'walls' which kept individual paintings from flying as far but then just made the entire canopy start singing "I BELIEVE I CAN FLY" despite all the weight. Nothing helped and I had artwork crashing down and flying into the ground right and left, and I ended up having to tear down after only an hour even though it was just a tiny 8 mph wind. It was so embarrassing being the only artist that couldn't handle a gentle breeze, it was frustrating loosing the money I paid for renting the spot, and a little heartbreaking with the damaged artwork - so I've sworn off art festivals ever since then, convinced that they just aren't for me. What was I doing wrong? Please share your wind survival tips!

This is great - except that at one show, the fire department came around and checked to see that everyone's displays were fire-proof. Luckily mine was, because at the time I was using Pro-panels (out of Texas) and they used fireproofed fabric in their panels.

Rafi, this is prolly a dumb question, but do you "need" a cord on the back of the canvas before you can use the drapery hook? I'm sure the answer is yes... but I don't have time for all that. I am not the artist... my huz is, and he is in an art show in three days and we have no walls, no hooks, no tent, no clue... Thank you for any advice on how to pull this off and for the video ! :)
