I decided to build my own film scanning contraption. ⇢ I didn’t have a flatbed and I didn’t want to purchase a device that I wasn’t positive was going to work the way I wanted it to, so I decided to build one myself. This setup cost me under $100. I bought a light strip, negative holder, plexiglass, and some foam core and went to work. I measured everything precisely so that film holder could have a snug fit that wasn’t restrictive, and I diffused the light a bit with some frosted plexiglass, and held it all together with Gaffer’s tape. The result? A 100% effective contraption that allows me to scan any 35mm film. Epic.
Note* Near the end, I show the film being shot while the lights are on, but I normally shoot my negatives with the room lights off.
Most settings/gear are as follows:
Panasonic G9 16mb files (High Resolution setting used when I need 80mb files for posters, etc.)
Panasonic 30mm Macro lens
1/200
F2.8
ISO 100
