Hello Markus, you definitely do not go to sleep without learning something. In all my years as a Wedding Photographer, it never occurred to me to mount the Flash in that way and once I had to send my camera to repair system to get the hot shoe fixed due to my flash stopped firing. Best regards

I loved this idea when I saw the video. I took it a step farther and added a swivel based ball head to the top part so I can fully control flash articulation.

This is a great idea. Now just to rig up one that rotates so that we can bounce light. I've seen the 360 being used on camera before and with great results.

Hey, I did something like this, but my new mirrorless camera had a very hard time focusing last night in the 1st low light event I did with it. Any tips on how to do some sort of a DIY AF focus assist light or something? Also is it true, that the red laser thing that worked fine for DSLRs doesn't work for mirrorless?

I noticed that if i hold my ad200pro too close to my trigger xt2-o it can't communicate well but seems the raised bracket shadows what i normally do handheld when taking portraits on the fly

Great news! It's a fantastic idea. Your video is the first i see that use with a Trigger. I have one question i have the A7 III and want to buy a Smallrig Cage. The question is that i don't know if my trigger (Triopo G1) can go with the Smallrig cage because the shape it has (continue the hot shoe mount around one inch) . Do you think it could fit?

I own Nikon D3300 with kit lenses(18-55 & 55-200) & 35 f/1.8. Laso have SB700, 3rd party TTL & manual flash. Since D3300 doesn't have High Speed Sync was th8nking of mounting all three flash on a bracket & fire all at once during pre-wedding outdoor shoot against sun. Please suggest me some brackets.

what if you wanted swivel like little rotation for the flash is there such mount that you attach to that bracket so ad200 can rotate ??

some black foam wrapped neatly around the bracket where you grip it would make it easier on the hand perhaps. The edges look Sharp.

I’m just curious why you need that much fill? And in a situation with 2 strobes on each side why not just have a 3 light setup as you won’t be mobile anyway?

Question, you didn’t elaborate on the connection attached to the AD200. Is that just the mounting plate that would be fixed to the bottom of a camera from the bracket you purchased?

It can rotate up and down if you want to bounce off ceiling.

Markus - there is some sort of a top plate on your EasyRig bracket that has a cut-out for the hot shoe on the camera. I don't see this comes on a standard EasyRig cage - can you advise what this is please ?? Thank, Richard

Hi Markus - when I look at the standard SmallRig cage on E-Bay - there is no top plate with the hotshoe cut out like you have on yours ?? I use a Nikon Z7 but I see you have a Sony camera there - and I checked the SmallRig cage for the Sony on E-Bay and it too has no top plate with the hotshoe cut out like yours in the video. So I am puzzled - I thought maybe it was a Smallrig add-on accessory plate. But I can see nothing like it. If you look on E-Bay at the standard Smallrig cage - there is no top plate on it like the one you have there ?? Any ideas ??

Hello Markus, Thanks - I cannot find (even on the SmallRig Web page) a version of cage like that for the Nikon Z7. So I have e-mailed SmallRig to ask if they produce a similar model of cage as this for the Nikon Z7. And if it is available here in the UK. See what they say in response. Thanks again.

Every thought of the V860ii? Much lighter and good output for fill plus it doesn't protrude as much. Has about the same shoot count. And it's 200$ cheaper, just a thought. But this is interesting if all you had was the ad200

Tristan and the 860 would just fit in the hot shoe of the camera with no bracket needed. It would be master and others slaved to it

Yeah, that was the first thing on my mind. At first I thought he wanted to overpower the sun with this setup. I could understand that, you need the power. Then I hear he just wants a touch of fill light for portrait. So I keep waiting for a reason why he doesn't use a normal on-camera flash, like everyone else since flash existed. But it never came up. So this is just a setup to show off, basically.

Ah but it oftentimes IS full power! Remember my main lights are usually AD600s and I like using longer portrait lenses like the 85... which means standing considerably further back. For every foot further back, I need almost double the power. Speedlights are worthless beyond 3 feet for the kind of stuff I do and I am often times 15-20 feet back

But there's this obvious wire tangling management issue. But it's worth it as the weight will be barely minimum on a hotshoe, with additional advantage of being able to tilt the flash head.

I guess you're not a huge fan of the direct flash look. That's a cool setup, no drilling or DIY rigging. Just screw it together. that dual setup would be awesome for video work.
