That's awesome, was looking at after market fenders....nope too expensive. So I checked out videos on cutting them I liked it but wasn't really sold. Saw this video, now am 100% ready to cut my oem fenders up.
Thanks! It looks great in person too and gets lots of comments. Feel free to post a link to this video on the end of your video about cutting fenders if you want!
I am thinking of doing the same or similar. I am going to look at using Polybutylene pipe which is flexible, black and cheap. It is used for water supply and comes in 100 ft rolls (sometimes shorter) Looks awesome man. Good job 👍🏽
dude ive always been the super crafty type. love fabbin my own stuff. ive thought about what i couls use to just that but never looked right. i never thought of this! lol. hell yeah dude really sweet idea for sure.
SEM trim black is what manufacturers use.. it works well on plastic. I recommend using a grey scuff pad on the surface you will be painting to help with adhesion.
I like this idea but may pull the flares and cover the whole thing with bedliner. That would make it look more 1-piece by covering the caulk and giving a uniform texture over the whole thing. My flares are faded really bad anyway.
That was an ingenious idea and it looks factory and fantastic, too bad they don't sell pvc in black then you wouldn't have to worry about scratches. Thanks for the video you gave me some great ideas for my jeep .
Great job! FYI some auto store sell plastic fender trim now to give the edge a nice finish with less effort than the pic pipe. Although yours turned out great but required a little more ingenuity and skill!
Not bad actually. I may try it with some 3/4" for my Smittybilt flat steel flares. I like the finished look it gives them. Plus it's a good excuse for me to actually go get a heat gun which I've been needing for awhile.
Great idea! Wish I would have thought of that before l spent 600 bucks on my Bushwhackers....yours look remarkably similar...like you said not really enough difference to even notice.
Can you specify exactly what you used as for as glowing what type did you say black caulking can you list them please and thanking looking forward to do it and want to know more less what to have to do them as well came out nice brilliant idea
Looks great! So you used the grey electrical conduit stuff? I suppose I could test abs or schedule 40 pvc as well. And you used roofing caulk or silicone? Roofing caulk is more like tar, no? and stays flexible.
If they aren’t black then I’m not too sure, I would honestly try to find a set of cheap black ones. Colored fenders will make any small mistake look bigger lol
Zaven O'Bryant , I have liked them so far, but I do have a few gripes about them. I was actually going to do a review on them this week! I Wanted to have them on for a while before reviewing. Stay tuned and subscribe to make sure you see it! But I will say they do have a slight radial pull to the right, but that's fairly normal for a large (37") mud tire. It's barely noticeable, and for the price of the tires it doesn't bother me, but some people are a lot pickier than me and don't mind spending another few hundred bucks to get the best ride possible.
On the next ones that you build clean the PVC with acetone and paint it with Krylon Fusion paint it chemically bond to plastic and will not peel pretty much never ever peel
Okay. I didn't know if you took them off and worked on a bench instead of on the ground. It would seem that they would still keep the same shape on a bench, but I wasn't sure. If I get a bored afternoon without my wife watching, I might just take my sabre saw to my Jeep!
If you want paint to stick to plastic, pass a low flame from a propane torch over the piece you want to paint, it breaks the surface glaze from the molding process, paint stays.
Actually it does... went to Rona (Montreal) and found some black PVC between 1/2" and 1" and its also flexible. Cost is about $1 /foot. This will be my project for the sping
