I've been binging RU-vid for Halloween ideas and this is by far the best moving build I have seen. Affordable, ingenious, looks fantastic. Hoping to someday give it a try with a third pulley around a corner so the ghost appears out of nowhere.
It seems that most people are constantly fighting to keep their axworthy running consistently, so it's impressive that you don't seem to have those issues. When pulling the line tight, it might be helpful to use a pair of needle nose vise grips to pinch the line and swivel so you can tie the knot more easily I'm planning a (probably...likely) too ambitious version that I want to use for Halloween and Christmas. I'm considering using 1/16" aircraft cable for the line in the hope that it'll have less stretch over longer distances.
Awesome work! Thanks for taking the time to do! Additional learning experience from my own failed attempt: 1. Use the widest bike wheel you can. I tried with a 18 speed bike wheel (only ones available for me) and the wire just came off from the sides, even if the line was very tight. 2. You are right, the need for a very light ghost Is a must. I got carried away when building mine and it was waaay to heavy in the end. You are a great communicator BTW! 😁
This is wicked cool!! it so majestic how it floats all ghostly!! the blue light shining on him makes him look even more creepy!!! Good job if they were selling I would buy one!!
Not sure if you've tried this, but when installing the line, loop it around the spindle just above the wheels, pull tight and tie ends. After tied, pull line and roll onto wheels. Should yieId a tighter line tension. I think i explained correctly.
As a note for those with a lot of room to cover, you can make the ghost follow a triangle path by having 2 idler wheels and one driven one. Ideally the ghost will be flying in and out of lighted areas so that it is not seen for the entire path. The areas where the wheels are should be dark. If you do electronic stuff, you can make the ghost pause for a random time at each of the wheels when it is out of sight. For those with a small space, a hovering ghost is a better option. Clever fishing line and crank things can make the ghost slowly move a small distance.
Been meaning to do one of these for years. We did a few very successful home haunts. Many bragged it was better than our local Jaycees haunted house. I'm going after wheels tomorrow and will start on the ghost too. Should be ready within a week. Thanks for the video.
This is so cool I like the simplicity of the project my friend and I did something similar to this year's ago but we had many problems thanks for posting I'm going to do it next Halloween!
Looks great! I've been running a flying ghost for 11 yrs but mine are kinda small. I might redo them after seeing this. Your larger ghost is more spooky and impressive. Maybe it just fits the scale of your yard better but I think I'll give it a try

You should do those ASMR audio videos. I get headaches a lot and have tinnitus so I use asmr audio to relax and sleep. You just have one of those soothing voices, I pay attention to voices a lot because of my situation. I found these videos because I love Halloween and want to set up my yard this year but it's your voice that caught my attention, not in a bad way, just cause I use soothing voices to sleep sometimes. @@scarriehalloween that is quite the distance. How fast does your ghost go? I have seen some others and their ghost moves very fast even on the low setting. Would that be because they have a shorter distance? I need to measure my space, I’m also thinking of it being in a triangle so it covers more of the yard. Thank you for replying. @@briannapatrick5863 mine moves slow (the speed in the video is actual) and this has to do with the type of wiper motor. You can add a speed controller if your wiper motor moves faster. And yes, you could totally do a triangle setup!
Thank you for the videos! This halloween i try this diy flying ghost, but sadly i have a problem with my wheel. Everthing turns around when starting the motor, but the wheel dosent turn around. Can i get help?

Great job! I have a 100 acres of land an I wanted to fly some fake hawks around it to keep the herring birds from eating my Japanese koi fish. I will your design idea. Around Halloween time I will swap the fake birds with ghosts! Thanks for the idea!
