Thank you so much. I am a 64 year old woman and watching this video has given me the confidence to try it myself.

Great job on the garage. Though, grinding should never be done without a respirator mask. Silicosis is real. Thank you for sharing.

Yeah seriously!! I’m coughing and sneezing just watching this. I did this to my garage but used a 3m mask and the dust shroud plus shop vac barely released any dust.

21:47 Totally agree! Time is money so if you have the time, use some to save some money in some of the DIY projects such as garage floor epoxying. It is time consuming work but you can save close to $2K & have the satisfaction of knowing YOU DID IT YOURSELF! Great job.

Nice work! Make sure to use a respirator when cutting concrete. Also, when acid reacts to concrete is when you see the VOC’s, so it doesn’t matter if it’s citrus or any other “green” acid, when it hits the concrete, it’s no longer safe and a respirator / PPE should be used. Otherwise nice finish 👌🏻

Can you go over it again after that with clear epoxy?
@drewnc6196

Did you do a top clear coat? Why not? Also curious as to why you did not apply an epoxy primer first?

How many kits of the epoxy shield would you recommend for a 20x20 garage and how many extra bags of flakes for heavy coverage like in this video? I have a home based auto detailing business and am looking to do my floor soon but want it as durable as possible. Thanks in advance and keep up the awesome vids. I’ve watched quite a few and your explanation is the best thus far

The question I have is why so many large cracks in a fresh slab?? And, vacuuming beats a blower hands down for floor prep. Blowing just makes everything airborne.
@tidaleffect7844
@tidaleffect7844 3 года назад
I ask myself the same thing every time I do one of these. My conclusion is that the concrete contractors suck. Also I think it has a lot to do with the way it’s prepped these days. When I was a kid I can remember them using a bunch of rebar and wire but today they use a fiber mesh in the mix which works if all of the other prep is done correctly. You are correct about the vacuum my only issue with that is it clogs the filter up and then just blows the dust out the back. Then your banging out the filter and repeating it over and over. I appreciate your comments. I have two more jobs like this coming up soon. One of them I know your going to have questions about to. They took a zero tip on a pressure washer to a fresh slab. Your firsts question is going to be the same as mine “Why?”. Lol. Thanks again James C.

No expansion joints equal craks all economy builders do it saves labor costs.

??Question?? My new shop floor is 6 inches thick, 18” grid of 1/2” rebar that was suspended in the center. It had rock for a base and 6 mill plastic and had fiber added to a 6 sac mix with super plast in it. It was pumped and then power troweled and had a cure and seal applied immediately Joints were saw cut the same day every 10 feet. Within a few weeks I noticed cracks. just crazing cracks with a long crack down the center. The long crack is just enough to catch with your finger nail but it’s not heaved at all. If I do an epoxy coat, do you think I’d see more cracks show up later through the epoxy? Do you see that very often.

You should explain what “pot life” is for epoxy.

I have read that tire pickup is a problem sometimes. Does it seem durable and have you had any adhesion issues?
@gpzjeffrey7974

You should invest in some PPE and dust control. 1) eye protection 2) respirator 3) shop vac 4) strong fan to extract airborne dust and 5) wet methods, keep the dust and working area wetted down so the dust doesn't get airborne. Silicosis is a mother trucker.

Just wondering what you would charge to do a job like this? I know you mentioned it took about 4-5 days to finish it completely. Thank you for sharing video.
@tidaleffect7844
@tidaleffect7844 3 года назад
Materials for the project cost around $500-$700. Usually you would be charged around $4 a sqft and up. It really depends on your area. If you don’t have bunch of cracks in the floor it’s really easy to do. Thank you for watching

Since this is in Florida, that house has a slab floor. I hope it was done right, because if it was done like the garage, the entire house foundation would be bad.... I just KNEW this was Florida, before you said it was. If that house were here, the city would have made the contractor rip the entire floor out and re-pour it correctly, using rebar and expansion joints.

How long does this repair last?
@tidaleffect7844
@tidaleffect7844 3 года назад
It should last forever. But if the house is still settling you might have some new ones show up. Usually I complete a project then wait a month and follow up with the customer. To be to totally honest I’ve done a lot of these and no one ever calls me back with any complaints. So in my world that means it worked as it should have. Good luck with your project. Thank you for watching.

? If I were to put chips on the floor. I'm thinking I will never find small components dropped accidentally. This would be like comoulflage where small pieces could hide. Surely anyone doing maintenance work or other engineering would want a flat colour where lost objects would be easy to find?
@tidaleffect7844
@tidaleffect7844 3 года назад
Yeah I think a nice pearl white would be good if your working on super small things. I think I would still lose things though. Lol.

@tidaleffect7844
@tidaleffect7844 2 года назад
Wow. That’s a lot of money. I hope you got more than one quote. This is why I made this video. So the average homeowner can see that they can do it. I have no idea what condition your floor is in. But what I do know is you can start small and see where it lands you. It could turn out to be a total waste of time or it could be beautiful. At least you took your time and tried to make it happen. In other words don’t change out the whole engine just because you need radiator. If you decide to do it yourself just remember that your not getting paid by the hour. Take your time, focus, and stay safe. If you have any questions feel free to ask. Thank you for watching

Should wear gloves next time
@tidaleffect7844
@tidaleffect7844 3 года назад
I don’t wear gloves when I paint. Sometimes when you’re painting you have to touch things you don’t want to paint. If I have gloves on I might not know I have paint on my hands. Just my train of thought. Plus the hand sanitizer takes off the epoxy.
