Learn how to take your gel polish, overlays, and enhancements off at home!
If you have extensions, you can take off the length before removal. Make sure to turn your hand around so you can see the back of your nails when you do this, that way you can see where to cut. If you don't feel comfortable cutting, file them down instead (if you don't have acrylic clippers, I would recommend filing). For those of you with acrylics: feel free to soak in a bowl instead of using foil! Either method will work.

I liked hearing you change your gel twice a week. I get bored too! Your nails look good even with all of the gel removal. Have you you used peel off gel base coat? Do you feel the peel off can damage your nail even more?

Oh so lovely to see you back and glad you are well. Thank you do miss hearing and watching your tips and tricks. 🥰👍🏻although I am kind of old school and prefer just painting my natural nails but always good to know this

I'm not a professional. I wanted to ask if you like to change your polish twice a week, why not use regular nail polish instead of gel? It would be less difficult to remove, faster and less possible damage.

Michaela Dove I used to use lacquer, but I find gel looks nicer on my nails since the skin around them is more raised. So when I have gel on, the skin is more even with the polish, since gel is thicker than lacquer. I also found that nail art is easier to do with gel

Should I trim my acrylics first before I wrap them

Nicole McKay it’s your own preference, but taking off the length first means less product to soak

do you rough up the nail plate before putting on your gel?? i feel like they file off an entire layer of my nail while they are already so thin and weak whenever i get them done. is that step even necessary?

Gel base coat doesn't stick to a smooth surface which is why they file the natural nail.

My nail beds must be roughed up naturally bc I never do and my gel polish works fine.

Never. Roughing the nail plate is what causes the damage I was referring to, and it’s why people think gels, dip, etc. are damaging. They should never have to file off any of your natural nails to apply gel

Stephanie this is simply not true. Gel sticks best to smooth surfaces bc when it’s laid nice and flat, there’s less of a chance of lifting. The natural nail never needs to be filed. It should be smooth with a buffer, if necessary, and removed of any oil by using alcohol or acetone

@@Banicured oh my bad yeah I meant buffed but not exactly roughed up, just enough to remove surface shine. I was thinking of rough surface with acrylics 😖
