The concept behind cold and warm water is that warm water is already closer to the heat and the molecules don't react as fast to the heat, because they need to expand and they are already expanded more too. The cold water is colder and reacts faster to the heat and the molecules warms up quicker because the cold water react faster, because the molecules are closer together so they aren't used to the heat and expand faster so cold water boils faster. I have tested it too, and cold water boiled first. Basically cold water is like, "I can't take the heat my dude!" and boils faster, but the hot/warm water is like, "Yo, you call this hot?" Cold water absorbs the heat faster while its cold. Once it gets warmer, it has less energy. Cold water can hold more energy. If your trying to boil warm water it has less energy and takes longer to warm up because it didn't absorb some of the heat while it could have if it was cold
