I used wire fairy lights from the dollar store. They're very accessible this time of year! You could also solder your own LEDs to wire and a battery compartment though

It's basically just a cable with very small LEDs. You can find them at the dollar store, especially around this time of the year. I baked the "stems" and then fed the LED through them so the LED sits at the top and both cables come out at the bottom of the stem. Tiny Nerdy Things here on RU-vid has done a few projects where he baked the LEDs into the clay and it worked for him, so that's what I'll do if I ever do something like this again.

Because glow in the dark clay doesn't glow nearly as bright and it's got more of a spooky glow. It'd look cool as well though I think

It's also easier to do. Although silicone and hot glue don't play well so you have to use clear silicone as the glue.

@@donbriggs9128 just use some stiff wire or garbage tie wire and then you can drill little holes in the wood and stick the wire in and then fill the hole with hot glue.

I'm not sure. Since the LEDs aren't inside of the clay I guess they'd still glow from underneath but I suspect tan clay is too opaque to get the translucent glowing effect.

If you mist the moss with water it stays green longer, but even without misting it it honestly holds up really well. I've made a couple of these (I even found that you can put some fairy lights into the oven, which makes attaching the mushrooms super easy!) now and they make really nice gifts.

@@RamoArt Yeah, the only thing moss needs is a bit of water. I was poiting that out because it does make a difference if moss is green or brownish. The whole thing will look slightly different but still good I believe. I'd love to find the will to make one like that, it's very original and with vey few materials. I might try someday. @@RamoArt do the fairly lights not break because of the moisture? Do you need waterproof ones?

@@thezlington8186 Just from misting the moss they don't break, but I wouldn't submerse them haha. I'm always careful with the battery though because that really shouldn't get wet (unless the housing is waterproof)

Yeah I've done that since making this video! I kept the battery compartment out of the oven though and it all worked out fine, but I think there's always a risk of the solder or the plastic melting

@@RamoArt Wait so you bake the LED's too? what ever happened to the toothpick to form a tube idea? did the tube collapse upon baking? if not were you able to snake the wire light wire through the tube? you know you can just cut the wire and use a lighter or an emery board to strip the shelack coating off the wire to strip it so you can solder it or splice it later
