Have you looked into CSEB bricks? Compressed Stabilised Earth Blocks don't require firing and are significantly more durable than home made fire bricks. Requires a piece of equipment, but there might be a DIY way out there to make them. Just 5% concrete 5% lime, rest is just the dirt in your ground.
I'm working on that very thing here soon. I've made rammed refractory bricks using aluminum oxide, potters clay and Rapidset cement all. Once our ground thaws I'll be experimenting with local soils for making compressed blocks. I bought a 12 ton "H" frame press to see if I can emulate a CEB machine.
Yes! Super interesting to me, I would like to develop a diy system for creating our own. I just haven’t made it that far yet lol, we’re still finding our way with melting metals in our diy kiln for diy tools and useful remanned items.
