Never had thought of making homemade gum before. I would love to make a black licorice gum, maybe juniper berry gum, and I wonder if I could make some sort of bitter orange gum, something like Campari could be tasty!
I would love to see you make a Natural version of this. I am looking into making a Natural toothpaste which is easy: • 45g Coconut Oil • 54g Bicarbonate Soda • 15g Myrrh, gum powder • 3 drops Peppermint essential oil. For Mouthwash, just use a Peppermint Hydrosol. However the issue with this is that Baking Soda (Bicarb) can remove too much of the natural coating on your teeth through demineralization, resulting in cavaties. This is where a Chewing Gum can be useful, hence, my interest in making a Natural One, I just cannot seem to get the preportions right for it. Here are ingredients I am looking to use: Xylitol - Natural Sweetner with well known research on its ability to prevent cavities and inhibits the growth of harmful oral bacteria. Myrrh Gum Powder - good for your gums, as it reduces the redness and swelling identified with weakening gums or gum disease, for toothache, is antibacterial and neutralizes the bacteria that cause bad breath. Arabic Gum Powder - contains high concentrations of calcium ions, which can potentially increase tooth remineralization. The concentration of calcium ions in gum Arabic can replace the calcium ions separated from hydroxyapatite crystals while preventing further demineralization of the tooth enamel. Carnauba Wax Sunflower Lecithin Liquid For Favouring, Peppermint, Spearmint or Clove Bud essential oil. 3 drops for every 100g of total ingredients.
The process, despite being super sticky seems simple. I like the way that the final gum looks, it has a nice candy look to it. I would like to make a spruce beer flavored gum with a nice hit of citric or tartaric acid to make it reminiscent of a tart spruce beer. If you havent had one its somewhere inbetween gingerbeer and rootbeer in its spicy complexity but is more tart and has a strong citrusy spruce note to it.
Such a cool recipe and interesting technique. Never thought you could create chewing gums in a home kitchen! Would love to try out peach, raspberry and pineapple flavors :-)
We made gum as a teen activity, and your demo showed some great tips to midigate the mess-totally cleaner than our chaos😂. I fell in love with Airwaves gum visiting Ireland & would definitely make menthol. I'd also have to make ginger ale flavor with the flavor crystals like your root beer.
I would try to make a refreshing black licorice (Licorice, Lemon, Menthol). I love black licorice as is, but I feel it might be even better with a little bite of mint and acidity.
Question: I have the vinegar powders and the hot sauce powder. Can I make a salt and vinegar chewing gum? Or a hot sauce gum? I'd think I wouldn't want to use powdered sugar...but how would I get the gum shaped/molded without the powdered sugar? I don't think a cornstarch would work...any ideas about a 'savory/spicy' chewing gum media?
You can't do it without any type of sugar/sugar substitute. But you can try to blend your savory powders into the sugar. We haven't tried this ourselves.
Hi! I haven't gotten through the whole video yet, but i was curious... I make a lot of chocolate covered things and have oil based food coloring... Could I use that instead of regular food coloring? If so, do I reduce the amount of vegetable oil used, or do I treat it as if it's regular food coloring?
@@Modernist_Pantry I definitely need to know this method. I could produce variety gum balls. With a range of applications. While I was watching this video I thought about the sperification method, now I know it won’t yield the proper results, but that’s was the basis of where I was moving.
Could you use Erythritol as a sugar replacement? I am a fan of mint (any kind) or licorice. I know people are weird about licorice, but black licorice would be yummy
What is “gum base”? When I search for it I just get lots of regular already made chewing gum. Is “Xanthan gum” a gum base? That can up in searches and “gum Arabic” but that seems to be sold in ceramics websites so not sure about that
