Looks like a great spot for a small grill base also. Table on one support for prep, and grill table on the other. I’ll probably be building this one next weekend! Great job Patrick, and thanks for sharing!!
I love this series. I’ve been hammock camping for years. I was thinking about how to build a hitch mounted one of these since I first saw a wheel mount. Then I realized other people have designed them, just like you did. I had been hung up on how I wanted to make the arms break down. Seeing your build really helps. I had the idea of the stopper rings, but I wasn’t sure if they would work like I hoped it would. You have prototyped it for us. The use of the threaded pipe is brilliant, because you can buy short lengths and readily get your hands on them. I hope to eventually build version of your rooftop tent also. Keep up the series a Videos. There’s a whole lot of us out here that need the inspiration to build gear cost half or a third of what the retail versions are.
Duuuuuuuude!!! This is my favorite project ever. Definitely building one for my rig. Super badass ideas for the adjustable tire mount and accessories. Your channel is pure gold.
Love it, hope to have a truck in a few months, this would be an excellent addition. Glad to find this channel. My greatest frustration with hammock camping was finding a place to hang it at most camp grounds. You can also soak galvanized parts in vinegar or an acid bath to help remove it as well.
Really great ideas! I had started making a freestanding folding hammock stand to use under my awning, but the tire mounted version would be perfect and much lighter. thanks for the inspiration!
Good job,I would love to make my own hanger but I don't have a welder even though I know how to weld. Also here's a tip for removing the inside pipe seam..... use a 3 leg brake cylinder hone! If your subscribers don't know what a hone is well then they shouldn't attempt to make this hanger!! 🤣😂
@@alanosborne1947 thanks for the tip but I’m not sure now we’ll that would work. I can see a hone tearing up on something like this. Its good for somewhat smooth surfaces but as it spins it will be violently smashing into that weld seam and bouncing over it. Much better off with some sort of sander
Have you built a hammock chair mount for a hitch? I'm looking for some ideas. All your stuff you build are awesome I especially like your awnings. I'm building myself a roof top tent kayak trailer out of an old 50s truck bed, I'll be pulling it with my 2022 Kia soul. Crazy I know but I commute from Boerne Tx to Austin Tx daily so I had to get rid of my truck to save gas. Incase you were wondering why lol. Thanks again for your cool videos.
I haven’t built a hammock chair mount. Glad you are enjoying the builds! Im hoping to build a self supporting awning pretty soon. I was wondering why btw and if you had left me hanging I don’t know what I would have done.. 😂😂
Great idea and well executed. Instead of sanding the weld seam from the inside of the 1" pipe, I'd add a little groove to the outside of the 3/4" so it would fit nicely since it would be so much easier and not require an additional tool. Just a thought. Thanks so much for sharing your ideas. Always interesting to see...
For the tire mount I wouldn’t go more than 230-250lbs. My wife and I both got in the hammock when in the hitch mounted position. Should have done a clip of that. We are about 310 together
Great video! Very well explained. I'm not a welder, so I'm curious if you had an idea for design that didn't require welding. Not as customizable, but could be a cool alternative.
Absolutely brilliant. The stool and table are superb ideas. I’m inspired and thinking of duplicating your build and making two opposing stools and using my slide out drawer as table. Hitch dinette. Looking forward to the carrier build next. Thanks for sharing and teaching.
This is awesome! I've been just looking into doing something like this. Love hammock camping and I don't always end up where I can setup in trees. Thank you for sharing your talents and ideas on these!
This is an impressive video. These hammock builds are very practical and well done. I have built my version of your wedge tent and bat wing awning and am very happy with them. I haven’t welded in 25 years and don’t own one currently but you’re giving me the itch to get one so I can give these type of projects a try.
Very cool! I was just thinking about buying instead of building my mount.... I think this has pushed me back into the building camp this winter. Like the accessories as well. Great job.
Good job Patrick. Very ingenious and practical. I was thinking about a stove or grill base, but already I get people commented on that. I like it. Thanks for sharing
That stool and table would really change my life. The only thing i could think that would make it better would be if the table could swivel closer to the stool and you could write on it like a desk or possible eat on it . Maybe a longer table ?

I just found your channel. Nice job on the hammock mount. I made my own hitch mounted hammock stand out of a couple old trampoline frames. it was essentially "scrap steel". I've heard it called "upcycling" when you recycle items and change their original purpose to suit your new goal. As luck would have it the leg post from one frame was a perfect fit into the other frames leg post. I used the larger diameter pipe all the way up as my hammock support legs. I cut the smaller diameter pipe into pieces and plug welded them into the larger pipe through holes I drilled into the bottom of the larger diameter pipes. This allows the pipes to butt together snugly and I didn't need the "rings" you welded onto your legs. Liked and subscribed...
I love the idea of these but I've always been concerned about the weight capacities. I drive an outback with an official tongue weight of 100lbs and I'm closer to 300lbs. Was wondering about wear and tear long term on the vehicles, assuming I could afford one of the kits. I'm assuming the tire route would be more sturdy?
What year? I have a 2013 outback and the tongue weight is 200lbs. 2021 outback is 350lbs. I’m not worried about that at all. I personally would not put 300lbs on the tire mount. That’s a lot of force on the strap holding it to the tire.
I wish I had learned sooner. I taught myself by watching RU-vid although if you have a friend or neighbor that knows how; that's the way to go. Love my yeswelder mig 205ds. It makes it so easy
