Is that an Aluminium block or iron? I'm doing a head gasket & I think the block has low spots, especially in the thinner sections between cylinders. I don't see any indicator spots on the block that tell me the maximum amount of material I can remove. What's the maximum amount of material you can take off t eh block before it becomes too much?
Iron. I wouldn't do anymore than I did. The stone will show you if you have low spots but if you really try and remove material it would be almost impossible to keep it flat. If it's real bad it may need decked at a machine shop. I didn't go past the factory machining marks.

Blow gun around the pistons. It's not much different then when scraping gaskets and getting the old carbon off of the pistons. When your done roll the engine around and the ATF or whatever you use will kind of hold the grit and dirt to the bore and just roll it around wiping and blow it off real good when your done. It'll be fine.
I probably only spent 30 minutes of actual working total including cleanup. I wouldn't go too far once you've seen and addressed if there are any highspots you don't really want to go past the factory machining marks.
