Great idea, but I personally could never destroy a book! I love books.

Great idea! I read books until they fall apart, then they can still be in my life. Book nerd!

I'd have to make a color photocopy of the chosen book covers/spines to make my own bin "wallpaper" because taking a blade to a book, even a free, donated one gave me cold chills. I know, my age is showing, as is my upbringing that one did not make even a small, stray pencil mark in or on a book, let alone a pen mark, a highlighter, or cut up a book -- they were too hard to come by and especially textbooks were precious gifts to use during the school year that we turned in at yr-end. Every page was checked for any defacing or vandalism. Only a book that had been destroyed beyond traditional use [water, fire, smoke] would have been considered for re-purposing.

I get the people who are up in arms about having to cut up a book. But I'll just say, as someone who frequents library sales: the three bestsellers up there (White Oleander, Tuesdays with Morrie, and The Lucky One) are at EVERY sale I go to. There are usually at least 4 or 5 copies of those at every library sale. They're also always at thrift shops. Since there were so many printed, they are always available secondhand. So yes, it would be great if the books could get enjoyed by other people, but those books are NOT in short supply and as long as she recycles the pages I don't see a problem.

Love this idea especially for apartment people or dorm room when needing to quickly put away valuables.

Great idea. I understand the not wanting to deface books but at least these are being recycled after someone has enjoyed the stories. Once for the pages and twice when the project is no longer usable. We have to think of it that way. The titles and authors are still on display to remind us of what great reads they are and perhaps to catch a new readers eye. Cheers Susan

I once heard that one of the first places thieves look at is the bookshelf for people who do this kind of thing. That is just what I had heard, not sure of it's value, but something to keep in mind. I love the idea of it though. I would love to try it just to try to make things look less messy.

I love book art! I have so many crafts that I use t old book pages for and I've only recently found some uses for the book covers... Like making a clutch purse out of them. This idea is another lovely way to repurpose books. Nice!👍🏻🤗

It's good to make our stuff work for us and to remember it is just stuff! I think that's been part of my clutter habit... Elevating the importance of things over living in a functioning house. Good job!

Love all your Videos. Have been using a lot of your ideas in decluttering and organizing my home. Shopping my home for some things and others fun trips to the dollar store. THIS IS AWESOME. Also a great gift for a book lover, either empty or filled with books a gift card etc.

I love this project. I hate destroying books, but I like that you mentioned that you had read them already. Also, how you cut them, didn't affect the readability of the book.

It would be so hard to do that to books that were still readable!! But probably well worth it because what a beautiful container. It's just gorgeous with the linen covers.

Inspiration to go Dumpster Diving again. I have found some really great stuff. And I can put books and crates in the back of my mind to grab when I see it because when ya go dumpster diving, you want to work fast and get as much stuff as possible in as little time as possible. And then get the heck out of dodge.

This is genius!!!! I've seen lots of cut out books for safe keeping things but this is totally unique. There things u can buy that are a bit simulacra but not like this and not as real looking as this. Thank u sooo much for this idea. Hope I can get to it by Valentines day : )

This project is really beautiful! At first, I was a little taken back by cutting the books but I think it's a little silly to have that reaction now. It's a THING, it was gonna go in the trash, and now it's gonna be displayed for WAY longer and it brings way more joy. I feel like people have this crazy thought about not throwing anything away and not "wasting" when in reality a book sitting unread in a box for 20+ years is wasteful too. So instead of BUYING a crate with pretend books in the front, we SHOULD make something like this and enjoy things in a new and different way.

Great idea. I really like it. By the way, has anyone ever walked into a home of multi-generational book hoarders? As in, a 60-something year old lady who still has her first grade schoolwork and quite possibly every book, magazine, and journal she's ever owned since? Not to mention all the textbooks she used when homeschooling her children (who are now grown with children of their own)? Have you ever seen what that looks like? Oh yes, and the now-adult children of said book hoarder pick up the same habit and still have all their own childhood books and magazines (Ranger Ricks and Zoobooks from the 1980's, anyone?) which they leave at their mother's house because there's no room for that stuff in their new homes. (and don't get me started on those *DOGGONE NATIONAL GEOGRAPHICS*!!!) When people say "we're book hoarders" like it's cute, I shudder a little bit because maaaaaaaaaaaaaan, I've seen long-term book hoarding. It's not cute. Books are things. Things exist to serve people, not vice versa. I respect and care for things as long as they are serving me. But once those things take on a life of their own and threaten to take over my living environment and my life, it's time for those things to serve me in a different way, or go and serve somebody else, or be destroyed or something. I'm talking about possibly tens of thousands of books sitting up in that house. (There were AT LEAST 800 cookbooks alone, y'all. Eight. Hundred. Cookbooks. Who has time for that? It would take over 2 years to try one meal from one cookbook, per day). No matter how neatly you stack and shelve and organize all those books, all they're going to do is create hiding spaces for dust and spiders and silverfish and who knows what else. When I say *I love books*, I mean I love the experience of reading them. I do not love the idea of managing so many of them that they end up taking over my home and my life. That's why I love public libraries. I'm always checking out and reading books. But if I had to actually keep every single book I've ever read in my life, I would go crazy and probably burn them all, seriously. Our property taxes are paying these really nice people to store and care for thousands of books, so we don't have to. I'm cool with that. #supportYourLocalLibrary My personal library contains no more than 20 books at a time nowadays. I used to have much more than that, but spending a few days in the Home of Extreme Book Hoarders was very sobering for me. So yeah, long story short, book hoarders, love your books, and may those books bring you years of joy, but please be mindful. Please don't get carried away. Like, don't indoctrinate your kids to believe that books are super sacred and then get incapacitated somehow and leave them with the guilt-ridden responsibility of figuring out what to do with your 37,000 dusty, crumbly, bug infested books without offending you.
