One thing I would add is placing some silicone grease or battery connector grease on the posts to help prevent water from causing corrosion between the post connections. If you live in the Rust Belt or Northern regions of USA and Canada, you will know what happens with all that salt spray on the roads during the winter that magically makes its way into your engine compartment.
I was a little confused when the guy gave me a GP 24 from 51, and the caa went from 420 to 810! I thought, well, he’s a rep at auto parts place, so he must know something. The only thing he could’ve helped with, was letting me know how much bigger it was, so I could’ve bought the arms to hold it down! Thanks to you, I’m confident and clear now!
Just upgraded my 2012 Accord V4 with the 35, only because the height of each is the same. Went with an O'Reilly Super Start Extreme, CCA 650, from the 500 51R. Kept the original tray and cover, but changed out 1 J-hook. THANKS!!!!
@@davidc2023 I also got a replacement battery from Costco last year. I kept the same size battery. It does have about 500cca but I still feel like it's underpowered. Costco told me that i can take it back and pay the difference for a bigger one. I'm gonna go ahead and buy the bottom tray so I can upgrade to the bigger size.
@@bigabescanal2799 i didnt buy a new bigger tray. Used the original group 51 oem honda tray. I just took the battery group 51 battery cover out and put in a new group 35 battery. Tight fit but still did it job. Why waste money buying a bigger tray if your upgrading to a group 35 battery
@@JohnT2088 i ended up buying a bigger battery tray and upgrading to a size 24 battery. Same size as the v6 accord. Battery tray was 10 bucks on Amazon.
Hello I want to ask if using a bigger battery like a 24F or 35 than the recommended 51R, would that affect the car such as the alternator, starter, etc.? Why or why not? Thank you.
Don't forget to idle learn the engine, 10 minutes after warmed up idling with NO power options on whatsoever. Just let it sit and idle to learn all parameters.
BTW your alternator matches the battery size and accessories. Biggest draw being AirCon & halogen front bulbs. A bigger battery last longer because it has more reserve available when it is starting to degrade.
I was actually about to ask; if I really need the tray since I would like to upgrade my battery but don't want to purchase anything unnecessary, I know I might need the metal brackets, but do I need the plastic ?
I noticed you did not replace the ground cable with the larger one used on the V6 which is thicker than the 4 cylinder version allowing better electrical flow.
I got problem already with that 51r group battery 500cca, I do uber & have many electronics devices, I wanna upgrade it. but I went to many of this autozone, pepboys & they don't recommend to upgrade the battery cause they says that it has more amp can cause problems, I have a CRV LX honda 2017. 2.4L. I don't know what to do. Thx..
It will be fine. Once the Car is started, the alternator takes over anyway. Think of your car battery like a cup of water. The bigger the cup, the more you can drink from it. Same for your Car. As long as the battery fits, you’ll be fine.
Hey Jeff thanks for the video, I have 1 question, you said all we really needed was the battery tray so will the existing j hooks work with the new battery, thanks
Yes, you just need to get the tray. The J hook and nut you can reuse and the battery tie down bar for the i4 and be reused if you hammer out the inside bracket on the tie down bar.
DIY: Car Modz thank again for the info, I was gonna buy the 4 cylinder battery but now I can invest in a better battery, hope you and your family has a great Christmas holiday, peace and God Bless.
@@DIYCarModz Thx for the vid. Are you sure we can reuse the J-hooks from the smaller battery?…they have different part numbers than the ones for the larger battery
Hey Jeff thanks for the videos. after changing the battery will you get a error code for the radio, if so what needs to be done. Thanks again peace and God Bless.
Jeff, I have a 2015 Honda Civic LX 4-door 51R battery that ran down several weeks ago. I jumped the battery off with a Genius battery jump. I bought a FOXWELL Battery tester. It says the battery is just fine. It runs fine as far as I can tell. However, I am worried about the battery running down again if I listen to music and/or leave the headlights on (LED). Could I replace my 51R battery to a 24F battery and would I get better performance? I live on the Gulf Coast so I am not worried about cold starts but, the summer heat could be a problem. Can you recommend a battery brand as well?
Interstate Batteries from Costco are amazing, especially with their warranty. As for your other concerns, yeah you will get far better performance with a bigger battery
Hey did you have any problems with your alternator after upgrading the battery? Considering this upgrade for my 2014 Accord Coupe as the battery died on me twice now after not driving for 3 days.
Hi bro in my 2015 Honda Accord sports have group 34 battery. If I upgrade to group 24 battery I am looking for group 24 tray ,battery cover and tie downs when I call the dealership he said I need vehicle model and year to find battery tray and tie downs .Could you tell me which model or part number fits 2015 Honda Accord to upgrade group 24 battery. Thank you
All you need the the tray and the tie down. No need to purchase new J hooks. All products are listed on the video description of all my videos. You just need to give them the part numbers that I list. V6 Battery Tie Down Plate: 31512-t2g-a00 (REQUIRED) Product Link: amzn.to/2AC1rOR V6 Battery Tray: 31521-t2g-a00 (REQUIRED) Product Link: amzn.to/2JoA8u1 V6 Battery Cover: 31531-t2g-a00 (OPTIONAL) Product Link: amzn.to/2AzT1Hr
@@DIYCarModz The stock 4 cyl accord j hooks will fit the 24 battery with the v6 tie down bracket and tray? Thats all i need with no modifications right? I got a 2016 accord sport 4cyl
Hey so I noticed the swap you did on your Honda, I had a 51R in my 2004 Honda Accord and this morning it was dead so my next door neighbor gave me a 24F to get to work. I ran inside and grabbed the rest of my things after firing it up and came outside a smelled something burning(like burning electrical) hopped inside my car and the battery light was on. So I quickly turned off my vehicle and just got a ride to work. Could I have possibly damaged my vehicle? Like the alternator or maybe ECU? Thanks, I’m very concerned lol
Don't drive it. It's possible that you have a short or that your alternator and or belt is bad. Pop the hood and check for obvious burnt marks on the grounding cable and the belts.
Thanks for another very helpful video! Would you know of any way to change out the puny battery in a 2009 Honda Fit Sport to a larger and/or higher rated one resulting in a clean installation? Most I've seen end up looking pretty sketchy if basically functional. Thanks again!
Yes, I believe you can swap to the 51R battery. Its the same one I remove from my Accord. LOL. I'll test the battery on my FIT and see if it needs to be replaced. If it does, I'll make a video. It might not need a new battery though, it's a 2012 with only 25K miles.
radio preset station and the clock resets. One thing to be careful is the smog check system resets as well so if you are going to get your car smog, do it after.
Not at all. I got a great deal on the AGM battery so that is the only reason why I got it. If there wasn't a deal on this AGM battery, I probably would have purchased the interstate 24F battery from Costco.
I have a 2014 accord and wanna change to a 24F size battery. Do i need to get a battery trey for the battery or if im not worried about how it looks it doesnt matter?
Nope tray not needed. Battery fastens securely just the same. Tray or lack of tray is not visible whatsoever, even if trying to maintain 'factory look'. So if you want to waste money and time ordering one go ahead lol
Hey, would it be easier to put the battery on the plate, secure the battery to the plate with the jhooks, cover, and top piece, then slide the battery plate into the well? Seems hard to try and put the hooks through the holes once it's in place already. I'm basically asking if it's good to assemble everything then slide it in place.
@@simplyclean4907 I have all the part numbers and product links in the video description of this video. You can either go to your local Honda dealership parts department or purchase them online. Online tends to be cheaper.
No, think of a battery upgrade as tapping into a larger water well for your house water source, you still only pull out as much water you need, the well never gives you too much.
If you live in cold environment or where winters are harsh temp wise, the higher the cold cranking amps number, the better chance your vehicle will start.
The stock 51 battery sucks up north in the colder weather. It doesnt really have the umph to get it going in 15* days we have to deal with, sometimes colder. It struggles to crank that i4 on a25* day.
Yeah its negative 50 degrees in central Wisconsin today.. CCA is important and the 51 is simply not enough. I even have a slightly larger optima battery in my girlfriends Element and it will not start today..:/ Size matters sometimes..
The stock I4 battery is not enough for our cars especially if you have the dual screens. Mine constantly dies and needs to be jumped so I have to do this upgrade. Plus the 9th gen Accord Facebook group we all have this same issue.
No the stock battery is not enough, not for the 2015 to 2017 that has the dual screens. My buddy has a 15 that is on it's 4th battery, I had a 16 new that with 2400 miles I listened to the radio for 15 min one night nothing else on and it died had to be jumped. I have a 17 with same set up and this one is now on battery #2 after I was stuck 3 separate times. You can't sit and just have the accessory mode on and listen to the radio, it drains the battery. None of the cars mentioned have NO aftermarket upgrades and we are all in TEXAS
