I was planning to make a wooden walkway but ended up making it with gold bars, since those were cheaper than wood.

This was done before the Covid price hike. But yes it's true, prices are ridiculous right now.

This is so cool! Just clarifying for the walkway, did you put some sort of sand, then pea gravel, then staked the planks directly into the ground? How is it holding up 2 years later? I'm about to try this out in my side yard and crossing my fingers it looks half as good as yours 🤞
@Red.Scapes
@Red.Scapes Год назад
That's correct, but I later built a frame under the boards, staked that to the ground with 12 inch stakes and then screwed the boards down to it. Holding up better that way but a few boards did cup a little. Maybe use thicker boards (mine are 1-5/8" thick) or use the method of grooving them on the back side (wish I did that)

I would like to do the cedar fence in my yard. Could you give some measurements of the boards especially the uprights you attached the planks too. Thanks for your video.

Hi, the vertical boards are 2x6 treated. The horizontal cedar planks are decking boards 5/4-in x 6-in x 10 The brackets I used to attach the vertical boards to the metal posts are these: www.closelumber.com/decks-fences/718-pipe-grip-tie-2-3-8.html?gclid=Cj0KCQiAoab_BRCxARIsANMx4S6yE89Pe_Y_x0WhSJQDIC9G4P0fL3QgfdJ0PHVQZqim9BLg6wdXEusaAkkvEALw_wcB Thanks for watching!

Where can I get kids who helps me out like that. That's some serious craftmanship! Also, was this done during COVID? if so, how much for all wood- fence and walkway?
@Red.Scapes
@Red.Scapes 3 года назад
Thank you! Yes this was done mid 2020 before prices spiked. The cedar board cost was $12 per 10 foot board. Now they are $27 per piece. Crazy.

Everything you did in this video is exactly what I planned to do... from the horizontal fence to the “rail road ties”!!! I need to know how you attend (whatever you did) the wood post to the chain link fence post!!! Are you not afraid of the wood warping with the post being so far apart? Not criticizing, just asking for when I do mine like this. Also, can you tell me what size and type of boards you used for your rail road ties, the steaks, spacing width as well as gravel size please? Thank you ☺️
@Red.Scapes
@Red.Scapes 3 года назад
Hi, the vertical boards are 2x6 treated. The horizontal cedar planks are decking boards 5/4-in x 6-in x 10 For the walkway, the large pieces are 2"x12" Cedartone Treated planks (6 foot long...bought 12 footers and cut them in half). The narrower ones are 1"x6". Spacing is about 2 1/2 inches apart. I used 12" SS stakes The brackets I used to attach the vertical boards to the metal posts are these: www.closelumber.com/decks-fences/718-pipe-grip-tie-2-3-8.html?gclid=Cj0KCQiAoab_BRCxARIsANMx4S6yE89Pe_Y_x0WhSJQDIC9G4P0fL3QgfdJ0PHVQZqim9BLg6wdXEusaAkkvEALw_wcB In order to avoid horizontal pieces from warping I attached vertical pieces on the other side of the fence in the middle between the posts. The gravel we used is: PEA GRAVEL (3/8” WASHED GRAVEL) Thanks for watching!

how is the fence holding up, considering weight and wind load is higher than chain link? I'm about to do something similar.
@Red.Scapes
@Red.Scapes Год назад
Holding up great though I ended up reinforcing with vertical 2x2s in between the metal posts on the backside so the cedar boards don't bow in and out. Otherwise it's doing great 👍

Working with or around water all the time it's very practical to wear flip flops but I do get your point, you are right, definitely won't recommend doing that unless you know what you are doing and are comfortable with the risks. Thanks for watching!

Did the neighbor complain about how the fence looks from the other side?
@Red.Scapes
@Red.Scapes 3 года назад
No, this was done in collaboration with them. The only way to do it to incorporate the gate on their side. It's basically their fence.
