I've got my frame built and my flexigray is arriving tomorrow. About how hard do you pull the screen when stretching it over the frame?
@LifeofBliss

Just a little bit of tension to get the wrinkles out. You don't need to really feel like youre stretching the material much unless you are trying to get some wrinkles out in the corners.

Just a quick tip for anyone trying to get rid of those distracting bands of light on the floor and ceiling (as seen at 11:59), tape the LED strips facing the wall, not out. You will still get the ambient light just around the screen, but the bands of light will be gone.

Absolutely 100% respect a man that chooses this amazing screen build over a college fund. 😂✊ The only change I would make is to paint the wood strips black before gluing the LED lights to them - that would prevent any visible raw wood from a side view - but if it's so close to the wall that it's not visible, then that would not be needed.
@LifeofBliss
@LifeofBliss Год назад
Hey man, priorities! By the time they get to that age, college will be free, we'll own nothing, and be happy about it 😉 That definitely is not a bad idea. You have to be nearly directly off to the side to see the wood/leds, but not a bad idea...

Awesome build. To be honest I was expecting something extremely over the top like your other videos, like a screen that would pour your drinks haha. Actually I was hoping this was one of those ambient reactive backlights. I have yet to see an affordable version though. To explain its basically the same leds but they turn different colors at the same time to match the image on screen so in the ocean at nights the lit blue water on bottom is blue leds on bottom white led for the boat on the sides and black night is led off on top. Awesome but so far the cheapest is twice your overall cost just for the led and controller.

Thanks Philip, my wife said the I was "so extra" or something like that when she realized the lights were synced up on the same system as the bar lol. I'll have to let her know I could have gone more extra 😂 Those setups are cool, but like you said, costly... These lights were still about $100 to put behind the screen, I wouldn't want to spend too much more on something like that
@Ash-qc9os
@Ash-qc9os 4 года назад
I made an ambilight kit for the back of my 4k tv that runs off an Arduino Uno and it works perfect. Not expensive either, just individually addressable led strips, power supply and the Arduino, that's it! I'm currently working on my own projector setup but with a 90" roll up screen so no fancy led's. I'm using paper floor lamps with Philips Hue bulbs instead for the ambient lighting. I deleted my RU-vid channel a while back so i don't have a video of it running anymore :(

Life of Bliss thanks. I was able to get out all the wrinkles. Thanks for the video, it was extremely easy to follow. I’m looking forward to using this screen for years to come

Great job. Just wondering why the movie didn't cover the whole screen and have you ever thought about getting an Ultra Short Throw Laser Projector?

Thanks man. It's a 16:9 screen and the movie was 2.35:1. My projector has a feature called lens memory which will recognize different aspect ratios and auto adjust to whatever settings you set up to. I make it drop the 2.35 image to the bottom of the screen to make the image more eye level and remove the black bars on top/bottom. They are only on the top that way. I've seen the laser ultra short laser projectors, but haven't looked into the much. Pretty happy with this one currently but will look into that as an option as well when I upgrade

ultra short throw is the way forward - no shadows as you walk past the screen, or being blinded by the projector etc - just create a nice shelf above your centre speaker

Great video, just made my frame today. I was wondering why the video wasn't centered in the middle of the screen?

Thanks man. My projector has a lens memory function that allows me to have it automatically adjust depending on the aspect ratio being played. I chose to have all scope video to lower to the bottom of the screen to make it more eye level. That way there isn't black bars on top and bottom, just the top now

Life of Bliss oh I see. I thought that it was something that I was missing. I’m watching your other videos now, narration is great, tempo of your videos are perfect, no wasted time. I’m excited to work with the LED lights and get my theater up and running again. Thanks for the inspiration.
