If you split one of your wood fence panels down the middle you can make your gate easy by using an Amazon gate kit to strengthen and stabilize the gate.
The fence gate kit helps keep it from sagging, thus the "no sag" status. :)

Your video convinced me to build my gate from scratch.

Sweet. Did you already build it or you’re going to?

Thank you for sharing your obstacles as well! These are my concerns when I had the same idea for a gate. Much appreciated!

No problem. Thanks for the comment! So did you build your already or you’re still in the planning phase?

Thanks for the video. It will help me a lot. My big wood gate broke off because it wasn’t attached very good which was a fence panel. I can now cut it into two gates which I like better. Hope it goes well!

Sounds like almost exactly what I did. Keep me posted on how it turns out. I wish people could post photos in the comments.

I would do it while it's still standing.

Have you finished your gate project? How did it go?
@SethHarcrowmusic

@@Wealthanize Yeah I extended the gate on my fence and took out a post. The post was 3 feet deep with mixed concrete it took a lot of digging but got it done!

@SethHarcrowmusic dang. That sounds brutal. Glad you got it done!

Thank you so much for this video...I am trying to do this same thing and no good videos on this, They want $900.00 to do this for me and pull up the current post in my way. I am going to do this on my own. I just wasn't sure how. Again thank you!

That’s awesome! Glad it helped! Are you doing the same thing and splitting a panel?
@OctaviaBoesWifey
@OctaviaBoesWifey Год назад
@@Wealthanize I will have to look, the panels are 15 panels so that may be too long and I may have to split them. I’m gonna check the size again tomorrow.

I’m wondering if it would’ve been easier and more efficient to drill hinges onto the panel before taking it off, attaching a cross 2x4 for support, then removing the attachment hardware, and add a wheel for support on the opening/closing swings?
@Wealthanize
@Wealthanize 4 месяца назад
Maybe. I didn’t think of that at the time though.

So is it still operating right? And would you do anything different in hindsight? I will definitely use this video to mimic your gate!!

We have that house has a rental, so I’m not there every day, but when I stop in for various reasons, it still seems to be operational. If I could do it again, I probably would do it the same way. I think since I split a panel is actually lighter than if I had bought actual gates.

I’m not sure what those are but as long as they can hold the weight I would think so.

How far should my length be if I’m doing two gates
@Wealthanize
@Wealthanize 2 года назад
It really depends on what you want to get through it. I split a panel that was an 8 ft. panel into two 4ft. sections and it’s worked great but it tries to sag. If I was doing it by scratch I’d probably do 6 ft. total so I could get a riding mower through but if you want to get a vehicle or trailer through it would need to be larger. If you don’t get a kit like the one I used it will sag a lot. What are you planning to use it for or bring through it?
@prank213
@prank213 2 года назад
I used two kits yesterday. To answer my question I would recommend getting 3 measurements from lowest to highest height of the post and then go with the the average measurement and subtract one inch from the measurement. I followed the instructions on the box and it’s about 1/8 of an inch to close

No concrete on a corner with a gate it's guaranteed to sag.

It’s actually held up for about a year or so but maybe it will eventually.
