I just dyed my Doc Martens Navy Blue! Stuffing the boot prior to dyeing and the finishing from the One Tarrago kit where essential!! Thanks for the video! I am super happy and proud of my new boots.
I love this! I love changing up items to suit my needs better! I've dyed clothes before too, like white shorts with a stain, turned brown or black make them new again!
Thanks. Getting ready to dye my cowgirl boot vamps. I would stuff the boots with newspaper or tissue paper before prep or dying. Makes easier for application, shaping & drying.
Use cheap sable brushes instead of those messy sponges Apply light coat. Let it dry. This will seal the leather and prevent from soaking to inside of your boot. Then apply another light coat. I prefer Meltonian.
Thanks for this video! I was super lucky yesterday and found a pair of secondhand cuban heels that fit me perfectly ($20!!!) which I've always wanted. Only problem is they're a very bright, orange-brown colour right now. Was thinking of taking them to a professional to get them dyed but seeing how easy it is to do the dying myself I might see if doing that is cheaper.
Great video!! I have a pair of Ariats that I wish were black. I usually use black polish on them but it doesn’t make them BLACK. It’s close but not quite there. It is a cool color though. Black and kinda... redish. But the polish eventually wears off. I’m going to bet some dye and try this out.
Hi Authenblissity! Thank you for your video, I am wanting to dye some distressed cowboy boots from brown to black, hoping all goes as well for me! Did you also dye the heel? If not, have you ever? My boots also have a dark brown heel I would like to match when I dye the boot black. Thank you in advance!
Good luck with your DIY!! I didn't dye the heel and I've never done that before. There may be some recommendations online for that part of the process. I'd love to hear how it goes!
I have a pair of black cherry alligator tony lama boots. My question is will it ruin the boot if I dye it black and will it look like if it was black originally?
Hey!!! How did it work out?! I’m actually looking to get some redwing boots for work and they need to be black! But they’re all brown. I’m looking for methods to go through with it.
I have some gorgeous Italian stitched pattern cowboy boots ($800) in a beige/tan/orange shade which I messed up and now am considering making dark brown or black. I am afraid I will do a lousy job and later wished I had left them alone. I have no faith on me doing a job that will look like it came new.
Can this work for my Aylx x Moncler boots. Reason i want to dye it black BECAUSE i originally wanted black Aylx boots, but it was sold out everywhere. What i have is the white/black Aylx boots. It looks nice, but it looks better in black. Also the boots are a instant classic and very comfortable i say best collaboration with Moncler. They are called Aylx x Moncler "Alison" boots i think there were only to colorways; All black and white/black
thx so much petitepearstyle, i just didn't get the last step. that self shine dye? was it in the same kit or did you buy it separately? Thx again for sharing this amazing video!
oh i watched it again, you have penetrating dye and then the kit! i 've done the dying but it's a bit metallic. I suppose i need that last step to get rid of the metallic color. i just wonder if could only buy that self shine dye? any advice? thx again petitepearstyle
yes, the last step was to have a richer and deeper black color rather than the slight metallic sheen. i personally like using the penetrating dye and the self shine dye... i've read issues with the color flaking off when people only use the self shine dye... good luck with your project!
A basic leather conditioner will remove that metallic color. When it has a brassy look, it is because the black dye has a red base, there is some with a more blue base. This is normal.
hmm i'm not sure... perhaps there is a dye stripper or remover that you could use instead of dyeing them white? i suggest googling it to see if there is any information on this as i've only ever used black dye.
as long as it is finished leather and not suede, you can strip some of the black out with 91% isopropyl alcohol. After stripping some of the color out, use a basic glycerin soap to clean the boots and wipe with a damp cloth to remove the soap. Let the boots dry, then apply the dye. You technically can't dye boots white, what is listed as white dye is more a paint. I have successfully stripped the black out of boots until they become a dark grey color, then dye another color (I did purple).
I believe the dyes I used are only for leather but there should be products that are suitable for non-leather surfaces. Google is your best bet for this!
I want to refresh my scratched dark-blue leather sneakers. But I don't want to get glossy ones after painting them. Is it possible to preserve matte structure with one of dyes? Would you recommend me some good dye brand for that?
if you use just the penetrating dye (and not the self shine dye), it does not get shiny but i would say it's more of a dull appearance rather than a matte appearance. there might be some sort of coating that you can apply to achieve the matte look but i have not tried it so i'm not too sure... recommend googling it to see if there is other advice out there!
you can dye with the Fiebings dye then after the dye is dry and you have buffed the leather you can follow up with a basic leather conditioner such as Chelsea Leather Food or Aussie Leather Conditioner. The metallic color that shows should disappear once you use the conditioner. I would use either Fiebings Leather Dye or Lincolns Leather Dye. For non-professionals I would use the alcohol base instead of the oil based dye.
Hello I did all steps , but i think i was late in applying the diy after the preper , it was littel bit dry when i applied the diy , so will it be bad ?
it may be possible... i did a video where i dyed my balenciaga pompon, which has giant studs... i used a makeup brush and rubbing alcohol to take the dye off the hardware.
+Tanya Carman there has been no colour transfer with the boots. with the purse, when i hold it by the handles and my hands are sweaty or freshly lotioned, there has been a bit of colour transfer. nothing from the side of the bag or the long strap though. i am pretty careful to only wear it with dark colours just in case but i do keep it in its white dust bag and i've noticed no colour transfer there.
Do you know what would happen if the purse (or anything dyed this way) is exposed to hot weather? Like if it was left in hot car in the summer? Would it get sticky and messed up?
