Short, sweet, and to the point. Thank you for this, very helpful. I thought I just ruined a hat by not realizing it was with my other clothes when I dried it. But hopefully following your advice I can fix it.
Ahh! I have a way as a knitter to freshen Sherpa 👍 depending on the type, You want to possibly wash the item and keep damp first, but this goes for all, use either a solution with softener or a hair tangle spray, something that will make the fibers slick. You don’t want to use those silly slicker brushes that work with dogs because you aren’t trying to get it all at once. You want to use a boar head brush or a tangle hairbrush or if you can find a clothes brush that too will work. You want a brush that is going to be gentle on the fiber and untangle the mess rather than go straight to the beginning of each fiber and take it all out in one go because that won’t work.
Hello! Thank you for this short video! My sherpa blanket is badly matted after a few wash and dry cycles. I tried fluffing it with a comb and a vented brush to no effect. Will try it with a clothes brush and water+fabric softener.
@@nujxad @pariswalker8686 I does but it takes a lot of effort. I used water to try to loosen the clumps and it sort of worked as I was scrubbing the sherpa with my clothes brush. Small strands start to come out of the clumps but I had to comb vigorously in a couple of different directions. What I'm trying now is a fabric softener to see if that helps. Those clumps are pretty tight.
Is it an absolute must to use the water and fabric softener solution? Brushing alone won't do the job? And I've never heard of a 'blanket' brush. Glad to hear about it
My polyester jacket says not to use fabric softener, and I suspect that multiple washes with softener over time can make matting worse. I am brushing after a cold wash with vinegar. If you can’t find a clothes brush, a clean pet brush is useful for tricky mats (I have a wire pet brush I bought specifically for faux fur. Just need to be careful and make sure it doesn’t snag delicate fabric)
When you buy it new it doesn't look like how it would end up if you brushed it? I like the look of it as it is when new....kind of like a sheep's wool ? But it goes kind of flat and matted, and if you brush it it will end up different....anyone understand what I mean? Hard to explain.
I do understand, and I'm worried no one else but you and me seem to care about this obvious thing. Which is why I haven't followed any of these videos just yet until SOMEONE addresses that issue and truly fixes it to "restore" the blanket anew.
@@robertwolfgan Yes, I don't like how it would end up if you really did brush it out. I'm actually not going to buy anything else because I don't like they way it ends up looking matted, but also don't like how brushing it would make it look.
🛑 is this faux Sherpa or real wool sherpa? Because if it's faux it shouldn't have any softener on it as it sits on the fabric and leaves a residue and it's not absorbed into the fabric as say real hair. NOTE; I've known some people to wash their full polyester Sherpa blankets and use softener not knowing and they can never understand why after you wash it it's so rigid and even felt heavy (( just in case since I mentioned it for those that want to know., If this has happened to you... give your faux blanket a good wash with vinegar only about a cup.,( Don't use any dryer sheets either on these ., But it's okay to use dryer balls and wool ones are better ) and then just dry on low. You will see the difference. ❤
@@MeganMakes well isn't there more than one Downy? And I'm only asking because I want to make sure I have the right stuff to make sure I'm doing it right and that I don't ruin it.
@@MeganMakes okay well I'm just asking because I just want to make sure I do it right with the right correct stuff so I don't make any mistakes and don't ruin it.
