Thank you so much for this! I’m moving soon and wanted to buy some billy book cases and make one shelf into a display glass, your tutorial is so helpful and can’t wait to try it !
I’m quite interested in trying to make some of these for my shelves. What kind of bookcase do you have? Is it freestanding or not? I want to add these to some ikea billy bookcases, but I want to see if it’d be safe to add to what I’ve got.
Thanks for sharing such an interesting video. This is what I have been looking for. Please tell me where you bought the plastic track. I could not find int on amazon. Thanks.
Cabinets can display anything. Nobody but nobody addresses the issue of shop dust covering the French cleat items. Cabinets with sliding doors will solve the problem. No back to cabinet. Hang French cleat items in cabinet frame. Use lexan panel for visibility. Your thoughts. Better yet build one and make the video!!!! Thx Bruce. Cleats and Cabinets ( sort of like root beer and ice !)
I have been looking for such a video on sliding glass/plexi glass/ plastic sliding doors!! Silly but I wouldn’t have thought to measure the height of one of the U-Channels to make sure there was room to put it in the bottom one and tilt it into the top one!!! I Would have drove me crazy figuring that out! I know this is a year old but I do have a quick question, --how much space do you leave from the U-Channel and the actual sides/bottom of the shelf??? --should one door be exact- and the other just 1-3 inches longer to overlap??? Thanks!
Yalenni Vasquez the books shelves can be taken out so I took them out and put the plexiglass in top first and then reinserted the book shelf and put the bottom part of the plexiglass into the bottom track.
SeusCraft here’s a link to some on amazon. If you do a search for plastic sliding door track. www.amazon.com/Knape-P2417TAN48-Plastic-Sliding-Track/dp/B000CSK398/ref=mp_s_a_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1548347540&sr=8-2&pi=AC_SX236_SY340_QL65&keywords=plastic+sliding+door+track&dpPl=1&dpID=412TtxoQy%2BL&ref=plSrch
@@cubescitycustoms5453 That looks nothing like what you use in the video... I really want to do this but am striking out finding anything like the tracks...
Ashlyn Bruce Richards I know it’s not the same as what I used but any track will work. You’ll have to cut it no matter what you buy. As long as the plexiglass can slide in the groove it’ll work.
frenchy6684 their Neodymium magnets. You can buy them off eBay. They come in different sizes and are super powerful. Worked great as knobs to open and close the sliding doors.
