DIY - How to make LEASHES for fishing rods and Kayak gear
Hello guys
With this bad weather that we have been having I cant get out to fish.
So I made another "DIY" video called "Get over here" that explains how I make the leashes to hold all the gear that is in the kayak with us. Rods, knives, pliers, Nets, icebox ...
Hope you enjoy the video and if so, please share it, press that like button, give me your feedback and subscribe if you haven't already.
Thanks.

One tip,no charge...since you have boiling water near on the stove,instead of burning thermo sleeves with lighter just sink it in the boiling water for a few seconds,it shrinks the same...especially when you have some delicate thing like shinking the tube on the fishing hooks where you can't go near with the lighter cause you would burn the line or braid. Excellent video btw,I will try to make it... 🥂

That's a pretty good idea. But you'll need to be quick or the water won't be hot enough. Or you'll have to reheat the water Let me know how it went :D

@Brandon6453
@Brandon6453 4 года назад
@@JTAKayakFishing Copper wont rust... Only iron Fe2O3 is chemical equation. Now copper does patina (turns from shiny to green like statue of liberty)
@JTAKayakFishing
@JTAKayakFishing 4 года назад
@@Brandon6453 The patina is the coppers oxidation, meaning it will eventually break. And considering it's a small wire inside, and that you have salt water, it will happen very fast. So the problem is still the same. Call it rust or call it patina. Any metal in a saltwater environment, you are bound to have problems. With the add it bonus of green oxidation starting to spread everywhere. With this nylon ones, that's just not even a problem to consider.

I have seen that video also. Thought about doing it but since I use mine primordly in salt water, it would not be very good cause it would catch a lot of salt when it dries. And salt its not a friend of fishing gear. I normally don't even wash the rod leachs, just trow them with the rod holders in the trunk of the car and take them out next fishing trip. But if the color means that much to you then go for it. Don't forget to show the end results.

Thank you for sharing this wonderful idea! I tried with very thin line (0.065") and the coil was very loose. I guess that you used a much thicker trimmer line? Also it's hard to find lines with a round cross-section. Does a different shape other than round work? Thank you so much!

@JTAKayakFishing 3 года назад
Hi Jay L, thank you for your comments :D I really appreciate you taking the time :D The blue line that I have it's actually 0.0078" só the difference is not all that great. When you finish the 15 minutes of boiling the coil in the water, did you flip the coil like I do? Cause it gets a lot tighter when you flip it. I have seen those square lines but I have never tried them out. Maybe you can test that out tu see and get back to me. But you shouldn't have any problems getting the round ones in gardening stores. Have it a go and let me know :D
@jayl24
@jayl24 3 года назад
Thanks for the reply! I made another one today with 0.065" round line and it turned out to be considerably better. Maybe shape is one factor. What size of the aluminum crimps that you used for your 0.078" line? Amazon sells only two sizes (1/16" and 1/8") of crimps that are relevant. I will try to get some 0.095" line with 1/8" crimps to see what happens. Cheers
@JTAKayakFishing
@JTAKayakFishing 3 года назад
@@jayl24 Don't stress about the size of the crimps. As long as you can fit the line and after you crimp it, its secure. Thats fine. And the more you make them, the easier it will get and the better they will be.

Hi thanks. The larger tube is 16mm and its cut to the length of the frying pan.The finished length on this one is around 30cm. I haven't tested it out to see how much it stretches but it's a lot, You never need to stretch it to the max. And it takes around 5m of nylon. You don't have to make them this big. I just like it that way so not to stretch them too much and deforme them. And can have them hooked to one side and move them around the kayak to different rod holders and it's no problem at all.

Trying this right now but my hands ache after trying to twist on nylon on the rod. I have to do 4 of them. How did you stop your hands aching?
@JTAKayakFishing
@JTAKayakFishing 5 лет назад
Hi, yes it hurts a little bit because of the force you have to do to stop the nylon from uncoiling on the tube and it takes a wile to coil the entire tube. I don't have any advice for stopping the aching on your hands. Just think you will only need 4 leashes and not 40 😀😎👍

@@JTAKayakFishing My hands didn't ache so bad after the 4th one. The first leash was murder....The fourth not so bad. I'm very happy with my outcome. How are yours holding up after all this time? Thanks for the video.

Sparkie Kosten Ya I forgot that, the first one was the hardest one to do, after a few it gets easier and easier. I guess we kinda get to know how much strength it actually takes to get the job done with less effort. My leashes not only are they still going strong and I have them for little over a year but I have done a couple few more to use on other stuf. In my last video ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-vPkwVKZqwgQ.html you can see that my rods and knife leashes are still the first ones I made and I dont even take them out of the kayak they are allways there. And I have made new leashes for my radio that I have attached to my vest. I also have made keychains using this leashes with thinner nylon. I really like the outcome, had no idea it would work out this great. I'm glad it helped you to go out and try it for yourself. Cheers. 👍💪

I used 3/8" wood dowel which I chucked in my 18v drill. Spun up slowly and used hand to guide the coil loops. No hurting hands!

How do you discover it was 400 pound mono? I thought it was weed wacker cord. Yeah a comment or subtitles of some usefulness in the video would have been nice.
@JTAKayakFishing
@JTAKayakFishing 3 года назад
Hi thanks for your feedback. Where do I say it's a 400 pounds mono line? In fact the subtitles on the video, actually say that it's a weed cutter line. If you go to a gardening store, you will see them in several sizes, colors and shapes. If you actually seen the entire video, I feel there's no way you can make that assumption. So I don't get you question and your comment on having subtitles. But I guess that was something that you just had to say right. O well, give it a try you may like the result and be a little bit happier with your life.

Great, but missing MANY critical things that ALL DIY videos include and they are specifics, sizes, lengths, diameters, material types, tooling specifics, etc., etc. I appreciate all youtubers taking the time to record, post process and publish, but this is NOT a DIY video, it's a show-"off" and tell at very least.

@President Funny Valentine D4C common sense tell me you couldn't make the "identical" leash in the video if your life depended on it...why?...because like I said, he doesn't give any specifics, sometimes abbreviated "specs". I guess you never care to read specs in the index about products.
