DIY IKEA HACK (IN ONE WEEKEND)!
I've been SO busy working on the house, so I wanted to share an easy weekend project for you all today! I created a cane webbing nightstand from a $50 IKEA nightstand and I did it in ONE WEEKEND. This one is for my weekend warriors who have been asking for an IKEA hack! Hope you love it as much as I do!

Great project. Some tips with those without pocket hole jig. Use glue on the shelf and screw through the side. Once dry remove the screws and drill the hole out and insert a wood dowel with glue in the drilled holes. Then saw the dowel off and sand flat. This will make a much better bond than screwing into end grain or pocket holes .

Ah, the rast! What an underrated piece. I'm learning so much about when to use pocket holes vs. countersink, and really appreciate the alternative suggestions you offer! I took the base off the Rast as well. It just looks way better with a different bottom

Ok this is genius. I hacked one of these by adding taper legs, painting the outside white, staining the drawer fronts and swapping out for gold knobs. I also added a 1x to the front to make it flush. I was definitely still a beginner, would love to redo one now that I have more skill!

I could be wrong but I think the purpose of putting cane in water first is to stretch it so it dries tighter and won’t sag over time. Perhaps more useful if you are sitting on it or put weight into it

You soak the cane webbing in warm water to get it to relax and flatten as well as if you are wanting to stretch the cane it will shrink while drying to make a cleaner and tighter fit like say for a chair back,
@JackKirbyFan

Sam that is SO clever. I'm really impressed. the Drawer front was GENIUS. I am curious because I'm beginning to think that the filming and editing process is longer than the build. Can you share (on average) how long it takes you to make a video like this?! Thanks
@diyhuntress

Not soaking the cane worked in your case because you directly stapled on a solid flat surface, not over an open space (in which case you Should soak it and install, so that it pulls taught flat as it dries)
