Wouldn’t it dry way before ever being able to ignite? Like while you’re finishing the next injector the others should dry off on their own and nothing really left to ignite?

@@michaelmichaelmotorcycle2174 You're running it through the injector there's a likelyhood of it sticking around inside the injector where it won't readily evaporate.

This would have been useful. I sprayed this into my fuel pump housing to clean all the gunk out. I used a blow gun to push air inside to dry it all out. You think I'm fine?

@@seahawksforever9504 If it's still off the vehicle I'd leave it sit to dry for several hours and maybe blow it out again after that just to be sure it all evaporated

Yeah I think I'm gonna take the rest of the injectors for this engine, clean them off, let them soak in some water based degreaser for a bit, the give them each a quick flush like this. Good luck!

Yeah I agree brake parts cleaner is not the ideal solvent, but it does work. I'm not sure I agree that carb cleaner has any lubricating properties, but it is probably a bit less harsh. Either way it worked!

Hahaha thank you! Obviously you can modify the process to your needs or just build off of the ideas, but I just wanted to be helpful and give people a cheap way to clean a sticky or poor flowing injector. It worked very well for me!

Well that's what duty cycle is. Injectors can be held open when they are at 100% duty cycle. I have never seen any proof or evidence that holding an injector open will harm it. It's a simple solenoid it's either on or off. Seems to me turning it on and off hundreds of times per second with countless in rush and cut off current spikes would be much harder on it than simply holding it open anyways. It will only ever draw as much current as it needs to remain open. At any rate, not trying to be a jerk at all, I just hear this all the time yet I have never seen it substantiated in any way. I will probably do a video on it at some point just to test. I agree with you for sure on properly cleaning and flow testing. This is just a DIY at home method. :)

@@802Garage I've seen injectors melt and lock up at 100% duty cycle. The coil in that solenoid is TINY. I agree that you probably won't hurt it during the short duration of a cleaning, but I feel it's wise personally. I think driving an injector at it's duty cycle limit is probably worse than a continuous hold. I hear what you're saying about the rush current but at the same time, solenoids don't work properly outside of a specific rush current range, suggesting to me that they are designed for the abuse. Having said all of this, I'm not an electrical engineer lol

I'll probably do a testing video later. Find it very hard to believe a solenoid drawing a low current is going to melt itself even if you hold it open for a minute. A few seconds at a time certainly isn't going to kill it. If anyone can actually show me proof I am wrong, I will gladly admit it. So far no amount of comments or research on my part have shown evidence or proof of such. I'm not trying to be stubborn or anything BTW and I used to think exactly the same thing having read it multiple places. I just don't have any evidence to support the claim. Hence why I want to do some of my own testing sometime. I'm not an electrical engineer either, though I do know a thing or two. I suspect a bigger problem with holding injectors open may actually be with the injector drivers in an ECU, but I could be wrong.

Yes, add a couple v10 stickers to your car and youll acheive your N4S desires.

It likely has to do with cars which sit for long periods of time with ethanol in the fuel, yes. Almost all gas in the USA is up to 10% ethanol now, and while it causes no issues and has some benefits initially, when cars sit for a long time it can cause issues.

We don't actually have many clogged injectors. I've never seen one in my 50 years.

The environmental benefits are lies, it's actually terrible. I believe it also increases carbon build up - but that's just a thought I haven't read or confirmed it.@@802Garage

Nothing if you're careful. I literally did it to 10 injectors and never caught anything on fire. The one bit of advice I'll give is it's smarter to touch the connector to the battery side than the injector side.

Great idea! I do actually have quite a few around because I used to work for a medical company. I use the big ones for brake bleeding. Makes it much easier with one person.

@@802Garage so find one that the plunger barrel is close to the injector oring you removed. You used the o ring for the seal on the syringe. The delivery end of the syringe can be modified to slip the red tube inside and use some double wall shrink tube to seal it. You can actually get a good little charge inside the syringe like this and quickly do many injectors. Cheers!

Yes, but the air doesn't have any cleaning solution to help break up deposits and gunk. It could help to pop a stuck injector though or you could fill a hose with solvent that clamps onto the Schrader valve with another at the other end to attach air and blow it through at a specified pressure. A lot of effort though.

The quick answer is that if they are functioning properly and you have no leaks or issues, there is no reason to rebuild. That said, after 100-200K miles and especially if high quality fuel or fuel system cleaners aren't used much at all, the injectors could def use a cleaning. Mostly it will restore a proper spray pattern and more efficiently atomize the fuel, regaining some power and fuel economy. Fuel injectors are incredibly reliable though and as long as you drive the car regularly, they can last hundreds of thousands of miles. Running fuel system cleaners and some premium fuel a few times a year can go a long way.

Didn't seem to melt or dissolve to me, even the adhesive. It's a good point though. Best to keep the tape behind the tip of the straw.

Of course not. This is DIY cleaning and testing not flow rate measurement. :D Just a cheap solution to injectors working like crap.

It should if they are a standard 12V injector.

That's not how a solenoid works... If that was true then relays would all stick on, for example. You need to learn some electronics principles before you try to educate.

Holy crap haha. Yeah it worked well for me! Injectors started our with a straight squirt or trickling and now make a nice mist.

@@802Garage mine were barely a mist the jeep wouldn't go over 30mph and for the life of me couldn't figure out what was going on and so I did this and it fixed it

Injectors can live at 100% duty cycle. It's a simple solenoid. This won't harm the injectors. The main reason older injectors couldn't be held open at full current draw is the ECU injector drivers themselves. I have never seen a single piece of concrete evidence that holding an injector open will damage it, but I do intend to do my own testing soon.

It was an 11.1V LiPo, there is barely any if any spark, there are no fumes to light on fire. Jeez keyboard mechanics make me laugh. Do some car work instead of criticizing.

Yes because while the opening time is slower with lower voltage, there will still be plenty to activate the injector. Look up an injector dead time chart and they rate the opening time from typically 9V all the way up to 15V or more.

@@My-Hunt Hmmm as far as I know any modern 12V injector can operate as low as 8V and as high as oh I have no idea probably 24V or more, but I have no idea what level would be damaging. Many car alternators run at over 14V and while starting a car voltage can dip very low, so the voltage difference really isn't a big deal. The bigger concern is Amp draw and that holding the injector open could cause damage to the coil. I haven't actually seen any proof this happens, but I'd imagine it's possible. That's why tapping is best. Port fuel injectors are relatively simple devices though. Just a basic solenoid really.

Good method for sure, just don't have one. This is more of a cheapest DIY. :)

9V should be sufficient for most injectors. They just open more slowly. Car computers actually have a whole table built in to compensate for voltage.

Just pushing the fluid from the spray end of the injector through and out the feed end. If you look close in the video you can see I flip the injector around. Hope that makes sense. You can also remove and replace the filter basket itself pretty cheap.

@@802Garage ok, so basically you’re spraying the solvent in from the part that attaches into the rail first so you don’t force more crap into the filter and make the problem worse? And then flip it around and spray it from the other side to complete the cleaning process?

@@padraigmckilroy Yep, exactly! Except the "rail" is actually the feed side. Basically you want to spray in the side that goes into the cylinder head first so it comes out the back of the injector, where the fuel rail would attach. I think you had the right idea though, just terminology. You can go back and forth a few times. Shouldn't hurt anything either way, just helps to knock anything big loose first really.

@@padraigmckilroy This definitely won't get you the "same" results as a professional cleaning and it won't tell you if your injectors are perfectly flow matched. If they have just been sitting for a while and you want them all functioning, this will get you up and running. If it isn't a boosted vehicle and you can get them all to provide a nice even stream, I personally wouldn't worry much. After cleaning run some premium fuel and PEA based fuel cleaners regularly and the injectors should be fine. That said, the only way to know for 100% sure is flow testing. Just don't want to make it seem like this is a perfect solution, but it does work! I went from 9/10 injectors working and mostly terrible spray patterns to 10/10 working with a nice mist. Good luck.

These definitely did. When I first started the engine only 6 or 7 out if 10 injectors were even firing and the 10th one never wole up until I manually cleaned it. It mostly happens from sitting long term, especially if the fuel system is exposed to air and there was ethanol fuel.

Is it free? Does everyone have one? Can you get it locally? Also a pulse tool does nothing differently than this. What coatings are going to be worn off that won't be worn off by thousands of hours of gasoline and additives? I'd love to see a reference for that.
