This is very helpful. You don't leave any steps out and you do leave the camera running during all the parts everyone else leaves out. I really appreciate this video.
Good video. Looks easy. That window must have been perfectly placed . No need for shims or check the reveals, and no need to check for plumb. I like this job!!!
My brother owns a window replacement company and has over forty years experience. I also worked with him for several years. We would NEVER install a window as tight as this, as there is no room for insulating and no room to level the window. Also, we would finish the installation by capping the outside with aluminum, which is not only very visually appealing, but also gives protection from weather intrusion. To be fair HandyGuy said this was for a rental and he didn't seem to be to concerned about the quality of the instillation.
Thank you so much for posting such direct and concise instructions! * Installing vinyl widows on parents' home this weekend. I now feel less intimated! Lol Thank YOU! 😉 🔨
sure hope I'm not the only guy (with bad sense of humor) wondering if while using rubber mallet on top corners the window would pop through and fall out onto grass.... would have been a good comedy routine. This was a really good overview of Vinyl window installation. thx
Hitting a window frame with anything is taking a big chance the the window pain doesn't crack. They're under a little pressure in that frame and it doesn't take much to crack it. I was cringing when he was hitting it.
You know what works GREAT for hornets/wasps, is the cheap foaming engine cleaner from O'Riley/AutoZone/Napa/etc. I spray them and the nest and NOBODY escapes. EVERYONE dies. Works great!
@@HandyGuy2016 if you have storm windows and need to replace your windows, do you have to have the storm windows still? I have several missing screens and glass and it has helped in rotting the wood on the Windows. I am trying to find a video on replacing a window and removing the storm window as well. I wanted to see how much more work it involved.
Great tutorial, need to add a respirator and safety glasses to the list of tools. Most windows that are being replaced are old enought to assume those paint chips contain lead. Stay Safe
It is fairly easy I replace windows professionally right now I'm working under an experienced windows imstaller and I learned in just 2 days how to take out old windows and put in replacement windows but this video doesn't show everything you need to do and it is easier if u put the window in from the outside
Is there a time when you have to remove the molding around the window on the inside and outside and, perhaps, build a new frame for the replacement window? Also, does a replacement window like you put in require shimming to allow for expansion? Or, is that only for new construction?
@@HandyGuy2016 Look at warranty. If someone offers the best price, it probably isn't the best warranty or product. Some of the well-knowns out there, like THIS OLD HOUSE, have buying guides that can take away some of the worry here, too.
I came here to see if there's a secret to getting out the top part. I guess there isn't. I just need to put my weight behind it, I guess. I know how fragile this glass is and I guess it concerns me. My daughter put her foot through one last summer and let's just say there was a trail of blood from her bedroom to the front door before we left for the ER. Lord help me...
Mr Deese well I see old wood windows every single day since I sell windows for a living, vinyl windows usually get to about 10 yrs and start having seal concerns (in general), if you’re at 15 yrs you’re doing great, at 20 yrs a miracle. When I say this I mean no seal issues and function is fine. See vinyl expands at 7x the rate as the glass so the inherent flaw is in the design. Vinyl isn’t a bad insulator it’s flaws are in stability which connects to durability in the long term. 80-90% of what’s in my dumpster at work is limited lifetime warranty vinyl windows. Now I see 40-80 yr old wood windows all the time that need to be replaced too but depending on the brand and age they generally have storm windows over them and still have better insulated frames than vinyl do. Point is it’s the combination between the two that was needed and there is only one company that sells true composite frame windows.
@@bartandlydia well you have two options, you can buy the 100 series fibrex windows from 3rd party Andersen resellers or you can buy the premium version from Renewal by Andersen. They’re both way better than just the vinyl window for the long term. I’ve seen the 100 series installed in the 600-900 per window range and Renewal is anywhere from 1500-2300 on avg per window. Lots of differences between the two including warranty.
So, either keep the wood windows....find some magical way to add double pane glass to them, spend a grip on fiberglass windows, or just add storm windows?
