Great video! Just one thing. You don't need to cut the flanges off the USB cable with the razor blade. The flange rubber is soft enough that you can pretty easily work the connector out of the shroud without any cutting.
This is a great video and not too hard to do.......but the adapter is now about £20 on ebay and the parts for this project costs a little more which makes this not the most cost effective way to get the kinect on to pc/xbox S or X anymore, still this was one of the best tutorials out there.
Yes, the original kinect cable can be pulled right through. It takes a bit of force though and I dint want to risk anything breaking or stressing the original cable. I keep the original cable to use with the old style consoles still.
Great video, organized and comprehensive. I have looked at dozens of these videos and no one other than you stated if you can use the power adapter instead of the tapped in power supply. I would recommend that you state what version of Windows you are using.
Instead open and soldering, if I just cut the original cable and splice them to 12v 3A power and also splice to a standard usb cable, should it work? I am not sure if I can do that.
Maybe you can help me. My Kinect stopped working after I rebooted the XboxOne today. The camera works but the mic does not work. I tried the calibration test and it will stop at 17% and have a message saying something like "make sure your speakers are turned up and your kinect is fully plugged-in" I have tried resetting the power, the box, everything. Any ideas?
Hi I followed the tutorial an works perfectly, but after some hours the Kinect stopped and now don't start, did you know what happens? Can is send you some pictures of my job ? Please can you help me?
Hi, I would like ot ask you a question: I have a kinect camera for xbox. I bought a windows adapter (including the adapter 2.67A - 12 volts) I installed the SDK 2.0, the diagnosis program, it reported that USB 3.0 port is not recognized As a result, the camera is not recognized in the device admin but the sensor and speakers works fine. (I added a PCI card 3.0 with renesas chip 72020) but the situation is the same (not recognized, not even the fan works, the lights are off. Could you help me fix this problem?
Dude you tried this with the power supply/Kinect plugged in?! If you did this, you just fried your Kinect by causing a short-circuit. Might be fixable, though.
if take out the existing cable from back of kinect port and replace it with usb 3.0 type B to usb type A cable, can we directly connect to pc without need a separate power adapter ?
Really helpful! Does anyone know if the motherboard specs matter for using the Kinect v2 on PC? Or do I just have to buy a USB 3.0 PCI-e card from the compatible list and install it on any motherboard? Thanks!
hi, pin10 on the PCB corresponds/connected to which pin inside the TYPE-B port of kinect? is it pin 1 (vbus) as a standard setup, or another pin? and what happens to 5volt feed from the onboard usb port of xbox1s toward kinect via standard usb cable after this mod?! is 5v overlaps over 12v from external power supply or what?!
Hey I'm just wondering, trying to make this in a hurry, the port isn't necessary right? I have a 12V 3A power supply, but was gonna just solder that right onto the board. (Im not super hot at electronics.)
@@malzergski I know that now, justwenft ahead and completed the mod, works a dream. Didn't even know if the kinect was functional before starting so was a helluva risk, totally worth it.
Hello, I followed all the steps. Only when I connect the kinect to the pc via the USB port it connects and disconnects without stopping. Also it is displayed as unknown device. Help me please
Hello, We have found this to be because of a usb driver compatibility issue. You can download and run this tool to check and see if your usb drivers and or usb card is the issue. kinect-configuration-verifier.en.lo4d.com/ Here is a list of confirmed working usb cards. social.msdn.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/bb379e8b-4258-40d6-92e4-56dd95d7b0bb/confirmed-list-of-usb-30-pcie-cardslaptopsconfigurations-which-work-for-kinect-v2-during?forum=kinectv2sdk As well as the Microsoft page for setting up and using the Kinect V2 with windows. support.xbox.com/en-US/xbox-on-windows/accessories/kinect-for-windows-v2-info
If I just want to use the kinect as a webcam on my PC and nothing else, does the kinect need any additional power? Or could it just run off the USB 3.0 B to A cable?
Shit. I have had a go at this, but before i soldered the power connector i used crocodile clips - positive to pin 10 and ground to one of the 4 posts - got a spark and now the laptop i had the USB3 cable connected to appears dead. Thoughts on what the hell i cocked up and did wrong? Would 12v have gone down the USB lead to the computer?
hi from Spain, i make the adaptor with you intructions and was percfect with a 1m cable, the i bought another one for 3 meters, but not recognise the kinect and the cable runs on pc, know you any problem with certain cables? thanks
it should , max kinex draws 3amps if use 5 amps , he'ill need only 3amps , you should worry on voltage and not less than 3 amps , or you overload your power supply
The fan will work just as it should. The fan only comes on when the unit reaches a certain temperature. You can cut the yellow and blue wires to the fan and have the fan run all the time but that would eventually cause your fan to prematurely fail.
