Very useful. Excellent food for thought for when I have a go at doing something quite similar. With regard to the hinge issue, I have seen other ways to overcome it if lateral movement isn't an option. The cabinet isn't opened very often usually so the front doesn't have to be hinged. It could be wedged in using blocks, or use dowels, attached with some kind of hanging arrangement similar to how the entire unit is mounted on the wall or use some combination of hooks, ledges or even using magnets.
