I’m definitely excited to (hopefully) see some of your thrifted makeovers on your site. I’m always looking to find unique, vintage items (brass, prints, general decor). So excited for you! Congratulations 🎉
I am not a fan of the faux brick tile that you chose. Still trying to figure out why you started in the “middle”. I always thought that you start in the problem areas (areas with difficult cover issues)with a job like that. I love the blue and white (delft) touches that you added and the white inside your strawberry display. I think that I might have left the outside if that was an option. All and all it’s a nice transformation. Wish your husband liked it. 😊
@@JoDee7986 I love the faux brick tile It just does not go with the countertop one has to go it’s like fighting with each other for attention too much too busy
The cabinets look fabulous. I'm not a fan of the fake brick backsplash, but I think it's mainly because it doesn't play well with the counter tops. Your vignettes are always amazing!
@@CanterburyCottage I think German Schmearing your backsplash might help to coordinate the counter and “brick” look. Real schmearing with mortar, not paint. It’s super fun! It would need to be sealed (with a matte sealer) since it would be in your kitchen. I think you’d get the brick look with a more cohesive look. Less movement but lots of fun texture… Just an idea.
I see why the clash. The red brick color doesn’t match the colors in the counter tops. The tin tile could be to busy & not match the handles. No offense @teajay 💕 I like the German spear but make sure you get the color mortar that matches in the color of your cabinets not stark white. Or sense it’s such a small area put up actual real tile the a matte finish & the dark color of your other cabinets it would give you that little moody color your looking for. Do a lil more research if your wanting to change it but if you like it than leave it 😊
@@megcreates2.0 I agree. If she likes it then she should leave it. It’s her kitchen. The tin tiles wouldn’t be too busy if a very plain one were picked out. They could be painted to match the counter and add a cohesive flow to the appearance. Concerning the German Schmear… I did white (not sure it comes in shades other than white and gray). The more water you add the softer the white. It’s work but so fun! I did my floor to ceiling fireplace and did a fake brick wall that I put up in my master bedroom. It’s not for everyone but I love it!
I think the clash between the backsplash and countertop comes from the fact that the backsplash is a cool color and the counter is very warm. If you have any leftover bscksplzsh tiles I suggest using one as a sample board. Use an assortment paints/stains in warm tones and paint the sample board. Once you have a pleasing combination you can paint the backsplash itself.
I love everything you did as always but I'm not crazy about the backsplash. everything is so beautifully put together. I think you can make anything look like a million bucks
I love all of your ideas! I am a little confused by the choice of the reddish brown backsplash with the yellow toned counter top. It seems to clash. Am I wrong? I love your ideas and look forward to following your channel. You have some very brave ideas and I am very impressed.
JoAnne, I think the backsplash and countertop match better than they appear in the video, but many viewers don’t like them together. I really want a solid colored countertop, but that’s not in the budget right now.
I shopped already! I got two items right up my style :) My grandmother (at least 65 years ago) used a biscuit cutter that was round and aluminum, I think, with a red knob. If you come across one, please put it in the shop. You have the most amazing thrifting resources. If I’m ever able, this ‘Bama girl is headed your way. ❤
@@CanterburyCottage They have counter top kits for painting. Much less expensive than replacing the counters and it looks pretty good. It could be a temp fix till you can replace the counters.
I think the granite has warm tones, while the brick backsplash is a cool brown. That being said, the kitchen is beautiful and I love your creativity in all you do!
Thank you, Sarah! I would really like to replace that granite! I put in solid black ones in our previous house (which I feel is timeless). These are so multi-colored! My husband hates the fake brick, so maybe he’ll decide we need new countertops!
Just a few ideas... Marble countertops might be nice against the brick, which can be faux marble. Or butcher-block, which can be faux, might be nice against the brick. I know you have butcher-block on your Island, though. Oh, I think copper might be very nice against the brick, especially with your copper handles...or are they brass? Either way, you might be able to do some kind of metal overlay, or simulated metal. I like the brick backsplash very much but if you decided to change it...I, actually, think a blue & white tile backsplash would be very nice, in keeping with your decor. Or old fashioned pressed tin, painted white and distressed a bit, which can be faux, too, would look very nice. I just bought some faux tin tiles for my backsplash. I'll put stained beadboard behind my stove, though, to match my ceiling. Well, whatever you choose, I'm sure it will be as lovely as everything you do. I just love your new kitchen and the rest of your lovely home. You always inspire me. Wishing you all the best. 💕
When I heard you say on line store I said out loud “finally!” 😂, the backsplash is not bad but I don’t love it, I also have granite countertops and although I like the brick look, the result was “busy”, I opted for something else. You have so much talent in decor!
AH-MAZ-ING! GIRL IS THERE ANYTHING YOU CANNOT DO?! It looks so beautiful and worthy of a magazine spread. Thank you for being here in for always inspiring us to pursue forward and see things in a different light. Congrats about the shop. I'm going to check it out soon!
I thought this looked very rich ! I enjoyed the process very much ! After you applied the *decor on the “” brick backsplash”” It all look very high end. I believe in your design and detail to function and beauty ! It’s five stars ⭐️ ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ for me. I watched the video 10 times and tried to be critical, however each time I found joy 🎉 !
I love the colours you chose for the cabinets and how it's all coordinating with the other rooms now. I also like the blue and white decor. I don't really like the splashback with the countertops or the strawberry decor I think they all clash. I prefer to stick to just a couple of colours otherwise it is too busy for me. Personally, I think the countertops are busy enough, not a colour or design I would have chosen, but you can't change them unless you spend heaps of money. Overall, you did a fantastic job on a budget and it looks fresh and updated. Well done!
Sherry, you did amazing job on the transformation of your kitchen, everything flows very well throughout your home, that being said I absolutely enjoy watching your videos each and every week, enjoy your wonderful day.
Hello Sherry! I love your painted cabinets. They look fresh and unify your home. I gasped when I saw you soaking your hardware in the pyrex square. I treat my pyrex very gently. I wasn't a fan of the brick backsplash. Wrong color, I'm not sure. I like the white tile better. I love the strawberry and vintage pictures. Great ideas.
Same reaction to the soaking in the pyrex. I have some old, some a bit newer. The very old stuff, i don't even use except to look pretty. I do use some of the newer pieces, but i do treat it gently. Pyrex is just too pretty for that.
We have similar tastes and likes, so as an old world maximalist who mixes in some trends, I think you did a fantastic job. I think the backsplash gives it that old world look, and the cabinet colors and gold/brass fixtures give an up-to-date look. (I think husbands sometimes just don't like how much we change things...LOL). Anyway...it looks beautiful!
I love the cabinets and art work. I am on the fence with the brick color. I love the brick backsplash texture but uncertain with the color. If you have an extra tile or two, I would create a glaze with color from your countertops or maybe try a whitewash. Overall, it looks beautiful!
Sherry, I never want your videos to end! I could watch you for hours on end. I love how this looks. You've got such a gift for coming up with wonderful ideas. I love that your home is rich with colors and items that you have upcycled. You are truly an inspiration! I look forward to Monday evening to see what you will do next. Thank you for sharing!!!
Decoupaging the tile designs on the trivets is brilliant!!! Now I'm thinking I could do something like that on my brass fireplace screen! Sherry, you're amazing. I love your style.
Beautiful Sherry! I think you should take the brick one step further and do the inside backs of your built-in china hutch. Especially since you have so many white based items to shine in there now, they would really stand out and it would look like you have a real brick wall behind it. I do agree that on video the colors look a tad off, but that could just be your camera. I’m really happy for you, I painted my cabinets white a few years ago and I love being in there now, even cooking is more enjoyable. Have you considered painting the brick? That might work, especially since you worked so hard to install it.
Good afternoon, Sherry! What beautiful kitchen transformation! It looks like it is straight out of the pages of Architectural Digest. The design is both cozy and sophisticated. I love how you chose both the creamy white and the dark navy blue. It is a clever solution that I have thought about using for my kitchen cabinets. Well done, as always. Also, congratulations on your online shop! I will definitely visit asap. Thank you for sharing and always inspiring. xoxo, Bobbie. ❤ Happy Valentine's Day.
Good afternoon, Bobbie! Thank you so much. I am just loving my library and kitchen now. My hubby does really hate the fake brick, so I’m hoping he’ll decide that we need to get real brick! 😜 My son is helping me with the store, so I hope it goes well. I am not a business person, at all!
I love the refresh! I’m so excited for you and your online shop 🎉 I can’t wait to peruse it and make purchases! And I have to agree with your husband, I’m not the biggest fan of the peel and stick tile but the overall makeover is gorgeous!!
Yay! Thank you! I think my hubby is going to like that so many viewers are agreeing with him this time, so I’m hoping to convince him that we should get real brick! 😜 i have a huge stash in my basement, so I will be constantly updating the store. I hope you’ll find something you like!
What a stunning kitchen transformation!! I love that you mixed white uppers with blue lowers. The cabinet pulls and knobs look beautiful against the cabinet colors. I am not a fan of the back splash. Even though it's new, it looks dated to me and seems to clash with the counter color. You are amazing at what you do and a total win-win on this project!
@@CanterburyCottage Well, Sherry, you tell your husband i said, it isn't the backsplash. It's the countertops that are the issue. I have almost exactly the same countertops and i don't like them because i feel that it's hard to find a backsplash, or anything, that goes with them. They were in our house when we moved in and if i could change them right now, i would. The cabinets and backsplash look great to me. But with the colors in that particular granite pattern, it's difficult to find something that looks good with it i feel. I have that same struggle in my kitchen. If i had it my way, i would have completely different countertops. Unfortunately, it means money to change those. Although I haven't tried any of the new kits that are out now to redo countertops, i have heard some work pretty good and that now there are cheaper ways to go about it. It's something i need to research.
@@CanterburyCottage But make no mistake, all your decor and the way you have it arranged, along with your cabinets, are beautiful. I absolutely love that white with all the strawberry dishes and artwork.
Sherry, your kitchen refresh is wonderful! Your creativity and excellent taste is so inspiring. Your freshly painted cabinets are just beautiful. The Delft tile decoupage is charming -- I want to try this. Thanks for inviting us into your lovely kitchen. 💗
I love the kitchen colors as is what I have in my cabinets too! LoL and I love the bricks but I don't like your counter tops with the bricks, but I understand the granite countertops could be pricey to change.
I love the new colors and all the new decor. I do think the backsplash color clashes with your countertops, but the texture is perfect. Why not chalk paint the backsplash with a few colors that blend both with the counter and cabinets. Then seal with polyurethane to make them wipeable. Just a suggestion! Can’t wait to peruse your shop! ❤❤❤❤
Thank you! It’s funny because I thought the brick backsplash and countertops worked well together, but the majority of viewers think they clash! Now, I’m hoping to convince my hubby that we should get real brick! 😜
@@CanterburyCottageatch stone coat countertops on RU-vid. Paint and varnish r a chore and most of the time looks bad. Glazing for a countertop isn’t going to be near long term durable. IMO Ps love the brick.
Wow! I just love the transformation of your kitchen. The red and white just n pops in the white cabinet. You really pull everything together with the perfect accessories. I always look forward to your videos and I am so glad you opened a store so that we can purchase some treasures.
I adore the brick backslash, but I'm curious at how it holds up over time, especially when using the stove top and various cooking methods that may cause an increase in moisture in the area. Your colors for the cabinets is so gorgeous and the white cabinets are indeed fresh and appealing.
I think the brick backsplash gives a very cozy look to the kitchen. Brick always adds warmth and much better than the neutral before. To my eyes it's charming! And the built-in hutch looks amazing in all it's red and white glory. It is a beautiful makeover.
Thank you so much, Anastasia! I really like the brick. Real brick would look better but, that would be a big time and money commitment. I don’t like the granite countertops though, so I may try painting them.
Beautiful and very inspiring! I’m not crazy about the backsplash on its own, but it looks lovely as a background for your wonderful artwork. Love the artwork and your hardware aging process. Great work!!
Wow, the kitchen looks great! You are doing major work. I hate to rain on the backsplash, but I don’t like it with the counter. I’d go back to the original color, or pick out a subway tile in bisque or a mid gray. Otherwise, your blue tile accents and everything is so pretty.
You have an awesome house. It's very elegant but also very cozy, sometimes a hard combination to achieve, but you have done that with excellence. Of course, why would we be surprised, You're Sherry. So grateful you take us along on your journey, it's always so fun. 💕
I love the navy bottom cabnets with the white upper cabnets. The red in the huch really pops and the blue in the rest of the kitchen is beautiful. Love all your ideas and always on a budget. Yhanks so much for sharing your talents with us.
The cabinet colors look great. I like the two tone look a lot! As you asked for input on the backsplash, and as it is a personal preference of mine not to have tonal contrast, I found the backsplash too cool for the warm counter. Just for reference, my monitor was not picking up a lot of blue in the lower cabinets, although, I do see the adjoining room’s cabinets as blue. They appeared more black than blue to me. (Of course my cataract surgery assessment isn’t until this Wednesday, so “grain of salt”!). That said, I was seeing yellow in the counter when it might actually be cream! The blue and white accents look great, but then, so do the red and white. I know there are those who oppose painting wood, but , for me, the change in the overall atmosphere of the entire kitchen is well worth it!
I think a German schmear technique on the backsplash would look better. The brown brick is just a little too dark/contrasting. Great job on the kitchen makeover ♥️
Yes! that is what I was thinking. I think the schmear treatment would look very nice. I do not like the bricks as they are. However, everything else is perfect. Love the cabinet colors and all your decor. I want to put those vintage tiles on my fireplace. Or I want my husband to put them around my fireplace!!
I love the 2 tone cabinets and I'm a sucker for anything strawberry! Thank you for the free download! As always thank you for the inspiration. God bless Sherry.
Quite the transformation. I especially like the cream cabinets, and your antiqued hardware. Your tile thingies turned out pretty too. (I'm not that into brick, so I actually preferred the old backsplash.) To make Hubby happy, try applying some real grout compound on to all of the 'faux grout', to conceal those telling seam lines. It will help it all look more convincing. (Parisienne Farmgirl made a faux brick wall look real this way.)
I like how the brick backsplash gives your kitchen a more rustic look, although it seems to have a pinkish undertone next to your countertops. Love the navy blue island and navy accents. So pretty.
As a 🇳🇱Dutch person I love your penchant for using "homemade" old Delfts Blauw tiles in your decorating. I inherited some real antiques Blue tiles from my really old Grandmother 1889-1967, sadly I (b.1971) never got to know her, so I don't know their back stories. But they must be from the early 19th Century). And the lady, pegging her white goat, in the Dutch reproduction at 13:46 reminds me of how the ladies of the older generation still dress in their traditional costumes in the famous Dutch village of Staphorst, where I grew up. 🇳🇱👋🏻🇺🇸
Oh, I love hearing interesting stories like this! You are so lucky to have some genuine tiles from your grandmother. I hope you have them in a spot where you can enjoy them everyday! I would definitely have them hanging in my kitchen!
I love the way the cabinets turned out - especially the strawberry display piece. I'm not a fan of the fake brick though the idea of a brick backsplash is a good one.
I love the fresh new cupboard colors. That white area with the strawberry dishes is dreamy. My only hesitation is about the brown brick backsplash. I think if you removed it & allowed your old white tile to show it would match more nicely. Still, who wouldn’t love the change you made in your kitchen! Great job. Enjoy!
Thank you! So many viewers have disliked the backsplash. Now, that I am looking at it with fresh eyes, I can see that it does not go with the countertops at all! 😜
I love the brick blacksplash! It ties in your wooden countertop of the island. Now that you painted everything, the brown accents like this really warm up the space. Good job!❤❤❤
It is very kind and brave of you to ask for our opinions. I agree with what many have said about the brick backsplash. As it appears to us, it has more of a purple hue, and does seem to not blend well with the countertop. I love the idea of painting it. Good job on starting your store. You are amazing.
You really have a knack for decorating. Your home is so inviting and beautiful. It’s definitely not a cookie cutter home and you can see all the hard work and love you’ve put into making it a cozy and a gorgeous place to reside in. Your family is so lucky to have you. It must be difficult for visitors to leave! I agree the colors clash between the countertop and the brick. Maybe you can dry brush the brick with white paint. You’re a very talented person! If there’s any left over, try it. My eye opener was the prints, WOW! Love them.
This is a beautiful transformation of your kitchen. I love the two colours. You are amazing as ever. I think the backsplash adds depth to the space and love your chosen decor.
You kitchen looks beautiful. I am going to admit, I will be copying the color scheme. I have an old 1930’s kitchen table, it looks like one that my grandmother had. Blue laminate top with metal legs and a drawer. And I’ve been racking my brain on how to do my kitchen around the table. Thank you so much for sharing your ideas, and how you did it. You are a great inspiration, for which I am grateful for. Many blessings.
Hi Sherrie! Well, I guessed correctly that you would do 2-tone cabinets. The kitchen looks wonderful, and I particularly love the "Delft" tiles! I think you did an amazing job on the backsplash, but just in case you want to smooth out around the corbels, I have seen folks caulk around the edges. Thanks as ever for your inspiration!
Love the cabinet colors & hardware. Looks fantastic and makes your strawberry dishware just pop. I do think the backsplash clashes with the countertop. The colors are off. But love the brick pattern. I have the same countertops in my kitchen and they pose a real design dilemma. Love the blue & white accents. My favorite. All in all a beautiful makeover. Enjoy it.
I too have those same countertops. They were in this house when we moved here, and i don't like them. It is hard to find a backsplash, or anything that seems to look really good with them. If i had it my way, I'd have totally different countertops, but it's a lot of money. I do know that if i ever get to change them, whatever i get will be a solid color because i feel it's much easier that way. As for Sherry's kitchen, i think the backsplash would look just fine with the cabinets, artwork, etc. It's just those countertops that pose the issue.
I think it is beautiful and as it rolled along I thought the backsplash color was not a huge player in the final outcome , with all the cabinetry and decor you barely notice it. Very cohesive and so fresh. Really loved the two toned cabinets. Of course your accessories changed the entire outcome. If there is one thing I have learned in my life , it is never ever judge a project until it is complete. I give you an AWESOME on the final project. Many blessings to you lovely lady!
Thank you! 😊 Many viewers are not fans of the backsplash, but I like it better than the generic tiles that I covered up! It makes me happy (at least until I can convince my husband that we should get real brick!😜)
@@CanterburyCottage you could always apply a coat of chalk paint lightly sand it and then antiquing wax lol It’s your space , it does provide the right back drop to build all the other elements blessings
Love it Sheri. The mix of blue & white is gorgeous. Definitely looks like a new kitchen. So glad you treated yourself to a painter, you deserved it. Looove the brick, I've always loved brick walls anywhere. I do notice color clashes but don't find an issue with your granite & brick at all. All your elements/colors are neutral & they all work beautifully together. Well done once again. 🥰💕 Going to check out your store, how fun. 😁
Thanks so much! I thought the backsplash and counter looked okay together, but I really wanted to to make one of the brick backsplash options work. I hope you find something you like in the store. If not, I will be frequently updating the merchandise as I have a large stash in my basement.😜
Sherry- I feel like you've been reading my mail! I've been contemplating how to refresh my tiny U-shaped kitchen. I too thought of painting the lower cabinets a dark blue, as the color would hide the spills. I purchased antique brass pulls, and seeing how yours look against the navy blue, I think this will work in my situation as well. Mahalo Nui for the confirmation! Great minds think alike! 😊
Your kitchen is beautiful. Anything you touch is lovely. It’s a treat to watch your videos- like opening a gift. I hope your website/store is very successful.
The backsplash has a reddish tone, whereas the countertops are more yellow/brown. They clash. I would paint over the brick to coordinate with the countertops. You have so much energy for all your projects. And I truly love your enthusiasm!
Wow! What a huge makeover! Changing the upper cabinet color to white is a major upgrade and using the same dark blue on the lower cabinets creates flow with the bookcases in the adjoining room. Also, the charm of the strawberry decor is now so much more visibly showcased against the white. As for the "brick" backsplash, I think that your choices for this area will evolve.😉Looking forward to seeing what you offer on your new website. Hope your Valentine's Day is a special one.
Hi Sherry -- I love your kitchen makeover. The cabinets turned out beautiful and love the colors! You are a talent like no other! plus we want to see more of Cleo!
I am so happy for you! It is thrilling to finally have the kitchen you have always dreamed of! It's lovely and the perfect backdrop to more amazing seasonal decorating videos! I love watching your processes. I can't wait to see your next project! Thank you for sharing!
Oh, thank you, Cheryl! That is so very sweet of you! Many viewers dislike the backsplash, but I like it. (I don’t like my granite countertops though!😜)
@@CanterburyCottage if you love it, that's all that counts. I have very "Cheryl" specific decorating thoughts. Not everyone can understand why I hang certain things in my house, but they are conversation pieces. You either love it or hate it. It's my comfort zone and it totally works for me! I love my treasures!
My kitchen cupboards are about the same color yours were before the makeover. Last year I got rid of my microwave. I put the brick peel and stick wallpaper under that shelf along that whole wall. I also cut a couple boards where the microwave was and covered them with the same paper, also removed all the cupboard doors there. I could not be more pleased. I think your kitchen is gorgeous!! And I love the brick backsplash ❤️ What a gorgeous transformation, you should be so proud how it turned our! Thankfully we all have different ideas of what our dream kitchens look like. 👏
I think the colors you chose for the cabinets are beautiful. And I love the brick backsplash, however, I think the color of the, clashes a bit with the counters top. Maybe a white wash to time them down a bit but otherwise so beautiful!
Blue, white and gold!! Gorgeous. I'm guessing the lighting is to blame for the bricks looking purple and not complimenting the granite. The texture and look of the brick in the final reveal looked awesome and definitely not as purple. What a beautiful place to cook!!! To that end, your range has so much beautiful stuff on it ... where does it go while you cook? Lovely flow in the house Sherry. Just stunning.
Sherry, I love the new do for your kitchen, it is beautiful. I was wondering if you did a “German Schemer” on the backsplash if that would blend in the seams and add a bit of creaminess to the color of the bricks? I really love the farming prints you chose to frame. They are some of my favorite pros of art. 😊
I absolutely agree with the two tones - the bone and the blue, it looks so fresh & clean. The only thing I’m not so sure about is the stick on “brick” splash back. I would have left the one you had as it was already lovely. I also adore the colour of the library. I have an “old” American oak extendable table and 8 carved chairs plus a glass fronted dresser( I’m in NZ and bought them from a older lady who was downsizing, whose mother bought them from an American family who came here from Montana in the 1970s) I’m seriously thinking of refurbishing the legs and base in that blue, repolishing the oak back to pale oak, and then repainting all the chairs in that gorgeous dark blue as well. The dresser would look good in bone OR dark blue. At the moment it is that strange pale toffee brown that was so beloved in the 1970s. My problem is that I can’t find anything I like better under $20k, and it’s fantastic as it goes from 6 to 12 - even 14 at a pinch, with the extra extensions. I would very much like the opinions of your contributors, as my husband wants it just polished. Nope. We are moving back to our home by the beach in 4 years hence the blues. Also, is it something you can do yourself OR do you get it done professionally? Thanks. By the way, LOVED the video❤❤❤🎉🎉🎉😊😊😊
It ALL turned out so good! I love the brick backsplash - I have one, too! Of course, we’re not seeing what you’re husband is seeing but…. I also love your artwork (the cows) and your trivet makeover! I love your red and white - I decorate with cherries.☺️👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻Great makeover and inspiration - WELL DONE! Thanks for sharing your beautiful kitchen with us.
Have to agree with hubby, the tile you already had was lovely. Perhaps you could grout the bricks to cover the seams and add some of that goldy yellow colour to some of them to make it blend more with your counters. I had my kitchen professionally painted as well, 10 years later and it still in pretty good shape, definitely worth the spend. Decor is lovely❤️✨
Wow. Gorgeous. I think hiring someone to paint was a really good idea. I love the color choices although I think I would have gone with the red brick look. You gave me some great ideas.
Thank you, Tena! I have always really wanted red brick. I’m hoping that maybe I can convince my husband that we need to get a real brick backsplash since he hates the fake ones! 😜
