@@dr.rajasaurusandunclebonec6526 Death Crypt of Duncan at Forest Lawn Hollywood Hills On July 13, 2012, Duncan was taken to Cedars Sinai Medical Center after suffering a heart attack.[21] Media reports suggested that his girlfriend, Omarosa Manigault Newman, had tried to save his life by performing CPR.[22] Duncan's publicist, Joy Fehily, issued a statement on August 6 that read he was moved from the intensive-care unit but remained hospitalized following his heart attack.[23] On September 3, Duncan died in Los Angeles.[24] In spite of a family request, no official autopsy was performed.[25] Forensic pathologist Dr. Michael Hunter believes that Duncan likely had cardiac sarcoidosis, and that the condition was the probable trigger for the actor's fatal heart attack.[25] (It has been established that Duncan had general sarcoidosis, which he likely contracted while working for a gas company in his early twenties.[25]) Seven months after his death and according to his family,[26] Omarosa was under suspicion for changing his will and testament.[27] They also claim that Omarosa manipulated Duncan in his final days, lied about her engagement and sold his belongings without the family's knowledge.

taking some sandpaper to the the surface before the paint will make the paint hold better. just rough it up a little bit.

No need, the can already had a layer of extremely good lacquer on both sides to prevent corrosion, nothing you can put on will be as good as that as a primer.

As in looks... Yes. As in Not Fragile... No. the bought one is more sturdy then the can one.. But you could always step up the process to use thicker aluminum for the leaf and maybe coat it in epoxy for a bit more durability.

Really good work! If I could make a suggestion; Don’t worry about the color for the paint initially, just finish the scratch work to get the leaf pattern on it. Once you’re there, I really think it’d be worthwhile to make a mold of it. The scratches should be deep enough for silicone to pick up. From there you can cast it in epoxy, it’d be far stronger, still light, and if you ever break one you can quickly make another!
@Randomona
@Randomona 5 лет назад
I like that idea actually! What I do like about the soda can method is that you have actual metal, which is hard to recreate with most paints. But your idea would make a nice sturdy brooch too and many of them if necessary 🙂
@iseleylaura
@iseleylaura 5 лет назад
That's a great idea! You could also fill in the back of the metal one with resin rather than hot glue -- that way it's still metal on the outside and it's harder/more solid :) (Thx for this tutorial btw; it turned out lovely!!)
@IICubeII
@IICubeII 5 лет назад
@@Randomona Happy you liked it! And if you want a resin part that looks metal, I'd also suggest using aluminum powder. You can use it in three ways; You can put a very thin layer in the mold when casting and it should stick and make the face of the part look metal. You can mix it into the resin for a darker and not as shiny effect. Or you could rub n' buff it onto the surface and clear coat it for the best result, imo. If you end up giving this a try you should post a video!
@Randomona
@Randomona 5 лет назад
@@IICubeII oh that powder sounds cool. I don't own resin yet actually, but I want to work with it in the future 🙂

Fantastic tutorial! Very well explained/shown and the end result is gorgeous. As a long-time crafter, I have ONE ever-so-important piece of advice for those new to hot glue that might take a shot at your project... BE EXTREMELY CAREFUL WHEN APPLYING HOT GLUE TO METAL OBJECTS. Seriously. It WILL get hot enough to burn you (yup, even with low-temp hot glue guns) and it'll hurt like a sunnovabitch. Learned this the hard way when I first used hot glue on tin foil... ;___;
@Randomona

@anne-florelecozic3890
@anne-florelecozic3890 5 лет назад
@@Randomona No worries because here it's an aluminium can, and aluminium doesn't conduct heat, that's whay it's so used in cooking and crafting. You should still be careful but also use a low heat glue-gun, your fingers will thank you :) (by the way, really cool video, thanks a lot !)
@notfeedynotlazy
@notfeedynotlazy 5 лет назад
@@anne-florelecozic3890 I usually don't enter in "Actually..." discussions in YT comments, but that "aluminium doesn't conduct heat" better be trolling, m8, because ALL metals are actually very good heat conductors. Even more in thin plates like that.

Looks great! The two only recomendations that I would make is #1, use sandpaper lightly to remove the paint form the can's front, and #2, to use a single piece of wire for the vines/stem. The single wire would take only a little more work, but it'll look cleaner, and and more structural rigidity.

Fabulous idea! I think that if you roughed up the metal w/ a nail file, that first layer of paint would probably stick on better...also I might hide all the wires and such with a strip of black felt to keep it from snatching at skin and clothes as well as make it look 10x fancier for very cheap. =3
@Randomona

Good tutorial, thanks for the idea (and I read the text, so thanks for the bow). Just an advice for new craft people, don't use the scissors you use for fabric or paper, eventually the metal is going to ruin them for softer materials. Label the scissors you use for metal to avoid any confusion.

I am definitely going to try this! But I don't think it's a good idea to use clear nail polish to seal it. The nail polish will eventually turn yellow and probably start peeling off (taking the acrylic paint with it). There are shiny, satin and matte acrylic varnishes (water-based, for covering paintings) that you can find in any craft or art supply store (or online) that will stay clear and not break down. My other suggestion is to use two-part epoxy glue (found in any hardware store/section, easy to find in small tubes) to glue on the wires. It will stick better in the long run than glue gun glue. There's actually a lot of work that goes into this and you want it to last.

i dont recommend using white glue to seal the paint. White Glue are normally used for wood and paper, and works the best with them, however they easily peel off any smooth material such as plastic and metal. I really love this can embossing idea tho! Can be used for other designs as well. :D
@Randomona

All in all, an excellent work. A few tips: 2:40 tip: it's better to use a wider tool for this task, if you don't have an embosser tool you can always use a smudger - I actually prefer that one. 3:10 tip: you're supposed to NOT to use the soft backing when going over the "right" side of embossed lines to give them more definition, but do it over a hard surface instead - so it actually flattens back all the un-raised areas instead of raising them backwards. Yes, in both things you CAN get it to work your way (as your leaf shows), but it's MUCH easier the right way. :) Source: I was raised with that stuff (mother was embosser), currenly teaching my own children. 6:35 tip: If the wire is too easy to bend, lightly hammer it a bit (roll it so it doesn't flatten) beforehand. That work-hardens it a lot. 9:34 to 10:02 tip: If you use green colored hot glue instead of clear one and cover the full back (you can carve and flatten any excess with a hot knife or spatula), the back instantly looks much more tidy :-D

Yusri Maggot Thank you for the suggestion! I don't know if I will make one because I already made a necklace following this tutorial: www.craftsy.com/jewelry/patterns/evenstar-pendant/144915 It turned out pretty good so I don't think I can make a better one. okay thats actually fantasticcc, id fill the whole backside with glue cause id be scared the can metal would bend easily, but the look of it is great
@notfeedynotlazy
@notfeedynotlazy 5 лет назад
Yes, it's indeed common practice to fill the whole of embossed metal so it doesn't cave in. The traditional way is a 50/50 mix of beeswax (for flexiblity) and pine resin (for strength), but hot glue works exactly as well. It's a tip I'm actually gonna use myself for small jobs like this one.
@Randomona
@Randomona 5 лет назад
Thanks! Yeah you can try that 🙂 the embossing somehow makes the metal sturdier, but it can't hurt to strengthen it some more!

Oh nooo... nail polish will chip away and turn yellow with time. Other sealing material would be better - preferably ones made for crafts, as they will last much longer
@Undomaranel
@Undomaranel 5 лет назад
True, but nail polish is also a bit more accessible and lies around the house more than resin or epoxy ;)
@Randomona
@Randomona 5 лет назад
Thanks for the hint - I haven't seen any chipping or yellowing after 1-2 years though, so I think as Undomaranel said, for a lot of people nail polish will be the easier option

Beautiful,I've made a few similar ones myself.but I do a few things different.I always sand the edges,cut metal is extremely sharp ! I also low temp solder or use a metal to metal epoxy glue,rather than hot-glue,which tends to snap off easily. But beyond that,super cute & a project most anyone could do at home :) Thanks for sharing.

@@Randomona NP at all chickie,any lil bit of help I can offer.I've been doing/teaching crafters for over 30 years.I LOVE seeing & sharing "How-To" craft videos that ppl can watch & actually DO,esp ones w/the bonus of using recycled materials,as you did !! Craft supplies are SO expensive & yet I see crafters all the time throwing out so many things that can be used to make gorgeous jewelry or other projects.Theres too many crafters that put out these videos,saying anyone can do them,then halfway through you find out you need all kinds of specialised equipment to make the project. O,btw,another"recycling" tip for you,save the wire from take-out containers,esp Chinese food.It's also 1mm wire,but usually half hard or hard wire,so it's great for jewelry projects like this...but you can also temper (harden) the wire you're already using (There's a pull-through holed plate made especially to do this,that can also make wire smaller gauges,but this works as well)by running it through nylon-jaw pliers a few times...or put wire on a surface and hammer it some with a leather/plastic mallet..and for non craft wire,a bit of heating w/a pencil torch (or held w/long insulated handled pliers & heated over gas stove burner,lol) Keep making fun,beautiful things,sharing & being fabulous !
@Randomona
@Randomona 5 лет назад
I totally agree with you :) I saw some DIY "tutorials" where they basically said: just buy this and that expensive thing and put it together. What's creative about that? So it's nice to find like-minded people who like recycling as well! That advice for the wire is really interesting, I will remember that, thank you! Stay creative and awesome as well! 🙂

great job, Randomona! Two small suggestion from a miniature painter. Prime the leaf (white, grey or green) before applying acrilic paints. Seal the deal with glossy varnish before matt one. These steps don't cost you a lot of effort but will go a long way to protect your awesome work from scratches.

I finished my 7th brooch today and after testing different methods, I recommend using only one layer acrylic paint and already mixing that paint with a little water. You can scratch much more precisely. Roughening up the metal before painting is not necessary if you paint it that way. PS: AND YES NEED 7 ONES WHAT ABOUT IT

Great job! That looks really great although I would definitely fill them with something on the inside Back in 2003 for friends' cosplay at the movie premiere I engraved a couple out of 3mm thick sheet alu, each in one piece including veins, grinding in areas around them. I painted the green with translucent paint for painting glass. I read that the originals were silver had got enameling, i.e the green was melted glass.
