I'm picking up one of these bikes as a project and learning experience soon. Out of curiosity why did you use two led strips? Was it to match voltages with the stock setup? Or was it just to be more visible? Love the build btw.
Find a cheap, used MIG welder and buy it. Then start welding. Dont buy "flux core" welders... not great for learning. Then, buy a book on welding, or watch youtube to learn. My dad is a certified welder, so i was able to pick it up at a young age.
Thanks man I have an 1980 xt500 that needs an overhaul I thought crinkled paint would make lower end of the engine look good top end I'm gonna gloss it and sand the edges of the fins
Me and my 15 yr old son are trying to get my dads KZ400 running right now. we are having trouble with the carburetor and finding the right carb boots. you should do a video on how to tune the carburetor on that bike. I think it would ger a lot of likes.
Eric Simerman check out the KZriders forum. Just sign up. You will get tons of info there. I have a detailed build thread there too. Unfortunately the bike was sold about a year ago.
Gret work man!! I tought the led mount was too heavy, but it came out outstanding! It looks minimal and sturdy. Looking forward a 440, I bet you will help me a lot. Have you checked out the Little Rat from GTMoto? It was done over a KZ440 by a gal. Greetings from Patagonia Argentina!
AimlessMoto its not that bad. I bought a compressor and blasting cabinet on Craigslist, Eastwood powder coating gun, and did of most of my cb750 F parts except the frame. Baked everything in a toaster oven.
I sand-blasted all the stuff at my father-in-law's shop, then hit it with epoxy caliper paint. Won't run or soften with gasoline and if it chips or scuffs touch-up is super easy. I think if I was doing a build that I was going to keep, or was going to be a high-dollar build, I would definitely powder coat the frame and other high-wear items, but for keeping the build under $800 it worked for me!
Denis any epoxy paint can. You can use anything you want but I find the finish and durability for a spray can job is best with duplicolor caliper paint or PJ1 epoxy fast black.
That fender and light setup looks amazing i think putting a seat on would kill it in my opinion ive seen people who like make their fenders into seats and makes their build more sleek and lined up, i think the two most hardest things about a build is the tank and seat alignment :p
