Just did mine; you helped a bunch - THANKS. Also, the Fidanza Flywheel, a Clutch Masters FX200 Clutch, and Redline MT 90 gear oil...it’s BETTER than new; LOVE it...even though it all dinged my wallet a bit.

Glad that the video helped. Yeah, I bet that made a decent wallet dent. You definitely went with better stuff than what I chose to go with.

What grease did you use for the bearings? And how did you know the clutch was on backwards??

Good video! Curious, what were the reasons given by the shops as to shy they wouldn't re-surface the flywheel?
@DIYAUTOCAR
@DIYAUTOCAR 6 месяцев назад
Apparently because it is a dual mass flywheel. Not sure why that makes a difference for them but I imagine that maybe they aren't equipped to do them since they aren't that common.

@@DIYAUTOCAR I was wondering because I had my guy here do my sons & he didn't seem phased by it nor my concerns. We'll see if it worked out tomorrow when the engine goes back into the car🙂

Any chance you recall if the snout on the clutch disc faces the flywheel? That's the way the drawing in the manual show but I want to be doubly sure🙂 THANKS!

DIYAutoCarage which tool you wish you had but didn't ? Minus the lift. Lol
@DIYAUTOCAR
@DIYAUTOCAR 6 лет назад
There's a long list. Basically any of the specialty tools that I have to go and rent from the auto parts stores. Once I buy a house this summer, I plan on getting most of those. But most of all, the lift. haha
@kumingo
@kumingo 6 лет назад
DIYAutoCarage agree, I want to purchase all the specialty tools needed. Especially the bearing specific tools. Unfortunately, I too will be doing this job w/o a lift.

How easy is it to replace the input shaft bearing? I cant find much info online about the input shaft bearing for is300 as far as replacing it diy.

What tranny fluid did you use?

I used Pennzoil Synchromesh. It worked fine for the next 3 years that I owned this car.

Yeah but people run them in all kinds of other cars. I ran it in my EP3 civic and my is300. Both with good results.

Damn you save a lot money by doing it by yourself. I paid $700 for the shop to change the clutch for me.

hey man, I need help with removing the top bolt on the belhousing. Its really hard to reach, any suggestions??

Just loosen the 2 engine mounts. No need to loosen the subframe bolts. I found that to be unnecessary.

what do you think about a na supra clutch conversion?
@DIYAUTOCAR
@DIYAUTOCAR Год назад
It's a good option. I ordered the OEM style before I realized that the supra conversion was an option.

Are you doing a manual swap or something? I have heard of people leaving them out. I've even done it once myself on a manual swap many years ago. It's not ideal to leave it out since it can cause more wear on the transmission. I would put it in nowadays though.

How long did this job take you hourwise?
@DIYAUTOCAR
@DIYAUTOCAR 5 лет назад
Hard to say since I took some breaks here and there but I would say maybe 6 hours? It will vary from car to car because of corrosion and if the car has already been taken apart. If it's your first time doing it, I'd just plan on doing it over a weekend.

How's the car held up after a few years using the same flywheel?
@DIYAUTOCAR
@DIYAUTOCAR 4 года назад
It has been perfectly fine. No issues at all. I put like 30,000 miles on it since I put it in. I actually just recently sold the car.

@@DIYAUTOCAR oh ok great, I got an oem replacement clutch from toyota (unsprung) and was completely annoyed about the dual mass flywheels in these things and was told I should get a new flywheel since the car has 200k miles. Well dual mass flywheels are $1,000 !! The only other option was to convert to a single mass flywheel thus forcing me to buy a sprung clutch or else the lack of dampening with an unsprung clutch and unsprung flywheel (single mass) will make the car feel like shit for regular driving...
@DIYAUTOCAR
@DIYAUTOCAR 4 года назад
@@danielgalan6518 Yeah, that's what I was also reading but I just went for it and it held up fine for me.(by the time that I read about this, I had already purchased the clutch) I sure wasn't going to pay $1000 for a new one. You are definitely right about unsprung clutch and a normal flywheel chattering. I had an unsprung clutch setup on an old car of mine and it was very aggressive and not exactly the best for daily driving.

I ended up just getting the XTR kit off of eBay for the IS300. The only thing that gave me any issues was the clip for the T.O.B. Everything else worked as it should.

@@DIYAUTOCAR I have the exedy and Fidanza clutch n flywheel, it doesn’t have a “hub” nor springs, but the splines themselves extend out on one side, I’m assuming that side goes towards the flywheel? It doesn’t say in the instructions and it isn’t labeled which side goes where. Please help if you see this

It really depends on your skills. If you're on the ground and you haven't done it before, count on spending a weekend on it. If I had to do it again I could do it in an afternoon. If you have access to a lift, it makes things much easier.
