***********ROCKY CREEK HOMESTEAD****************
After battling Psoriasis for years, I discovered the power of quality food and its positive impact on my skin condition. This sparked my desire to raise my own quality food. So come along with our Family as we transition from urban living to small self sustaining family farm. Learn from both our successes and failures in hopes it may inspire others to try new things. We entered into this journey with no prior experience and hope to provide many laughs and learning experiences. We learned most of how to do what were doing from watching others and hope to be able to provide a similar learning opportunity to anyone else who may benefit from this. Thank you for coming along with us on this journey and we hope it is enjoyable for you and your family.

Made mine out of two hog panels last year and secured it to my trailer. Built a simple 9 foot ramp for a gentle incline. Both hogs walked on board and to the butcher.

You’re welcome. They’re quite helpful for making temporary pens as well.

It works awesome. Definitely has helped numerous times. Worked fantastic for hauling hay as well and didn’t have to strap the bales down.

Thanks, I was skeptical if it would work, but its worked great. Hard to justify spending a few thousand, when I only need it a few times a year. Glad you enjoyed the content and we are certainly glad to have you with us!

Been thinking about same cage for my utility trailer, but will probably use hog panel: it will be go in trailer or my truck, when ever needed. Good video,thanks

I am very pleased with it. Hard to drop thousands when I only use it maybe twice a year. Glad we could be of some help.

can this one go on high way ! sheep and goat would be okay on high way ?
@RockyCreekHomestead
@RockyCreekHomestead 4 месяца назад
I pull it on a highway. Furthest trip has been about an hour each way. I’ve heard goats are at risk when high winds during transport so may want to cover the front with something for a wind block. A friend of mine made a similar set up that fit in the bed of his truck and transported sheep without issue that way

What about using hog rings and just cut them off with bolt cutters when you want to take it apart? Seems a lot faster and cheaper. Those remind me of chain link fence though.

I’d suspect that would work. There’s a lot of ways this could be modified.

How well is the are the premier one connectors holding up? I just built one myself but I used Rebar Tie wire. It feels super secure and strong and for the price I can't beat it but I guess time will tell. Great video by the way!

They’ve held up well. They don’t get the panels super tight, but certainly holds them together no problem. It rattles a bit because of it not pulling the two panels together tightly. I only have to use it about 5 or 6 times a years, so for that it’s worked well. I can assemble it now in about 5 minutes when I need to. This was one of my first videos so editing was a new thing and music was a little much in it. We appreciate you checking it out.

I don't have any currently. Those were purchased almost a year ago. I'm thinking about possibly getting more hats and shirts done this summer.

How are the Kunekune pigs? I hear they take forever to grow out.
@RockyCreekHomestead
@RockyCreekHomestead 2 года назад
For our situation with limited space and working full time jobs that have lots of overtime, they’ve been great. They do take 12-14 months to grow out to a decent size which is long for a pig. The feed amounts will end up being the same or close to other breeds because you don’t free choice feed them. Mine only get 3 cups of feed a day. They’re a lard breed too so there is a higher quantity of fat when processed. In my opinion they’re perfect for a family looking to raise for themselves, but wouldn’t be the best if your looking to raise for a lot of meat to sell or make a business out of.

You’re correct. This was a very early video of mine and I was a complete rookie to making them. Many lessons learned along the way

Can you do one for horses
@RockyCreekHomestead
@RockyCreekHomestead 3 года назад
That may be tough. One like this would work great for pigs, goats and sheep but I don’t think it would work well for horses. I’m not very knowledgeable on raising horses but I’ve heard they’re a bit more difficult to transport and their much larger which presents another issue. Thanks for spending time with us.
