In this step by step sewing tutorial you’ll learn how to make your own long open cardigan/sweater with a hood on it! I love these types of open hooded sweaters because they’re great for layering and they’re very cozy and comfortable! I break the process down into easy and clear steps to show you how to make this piece of outerwear. You won’t need any fancy patterns or downloads - you’ll just need this video, your fabric, and a hoodie or sweater with a hood on it to use as a template.
CHECK OUT MY FAVORITE SEWING SUPPLIES HERE: www.amazon.com... *
*****
MATERIALS NEEDED:
-2 or more yards of a stretch sweater knit fabric - I used 2 to make my sweater which was probably between a size L or XL, so you may want more if you want a larger size or longer sweater.
-A hoodie or sweater with a hood on it to use as a template - use a fitted template if you want a fitted cardigan, or use a looser template if you like a less fitted cardigan to really wrap up in!
-See through piece of paper - tissue paper or tracing paper both work great!
-Basic sewing supplies - scissors, thread, ball point needle, sewing machine, tape measure, pins, marker, etc.

WHAT YOU'LL LEARN:
In the video I show you how to use a sweater/hoodie as a guide to cut out your cardigan by folding up the sweater to cut out the bodice, and then using tracing paper to trace the shape of the sleeve and hood to create really simple patterns to cut out those pieces. You’ll learn how to sew everything together and hem the raw edges, plus I give you my tips for sewing with a stretchy sweater knit fabric.

@ComicatCreations
@ComicatCreations 5 лет назад
I'm so glad this helped you out with the sleeves!!! I originally struggled with sleeves too but once I thought about doing it this way it made it a lot easier, plus you can use that method as a jumping off point to make other types of sleeves (for example I'm working on a new tutorial for a cold shoulder top where I show you how to make cold shoulder sleeves with this same basic method). Thanks so much for watching and leaving a comment :) Happy sewing!

Hey Georgette, I'm so sorry I missed this comment! It's been a crazy summer and I'm finally sitting down to catch up on comments and I'm seeing a bunch I missed. I'm so glad it turned out so good!!! I bet the heavier one will be great too with the cold weather coming up :) I use Instagram where you can post pictures and then tag me, but if you don't have that the easiest way I could suggest would be sending an email to comicatcreations@gmail.com . You could attach the picture in the email (maybe your nephew could help with that if you need it!) and then I could see it that way! @ComicatCreations
@ComicatCreations 6 лет назад
Thank you! I'm so happy you've learned from them and thank you for watching my channel!!! I would definitely recommend using a stretch sweater fabric for this because a non stretch unfortunately just won't fit the same since it doesn't stretch to fit to your shape and it won't be as cozy or comfortable... Awesome video the best I've seen! Can this be done with fleece as well?
@ComicatCreations
@ComicatCreations 3 года назад
Aw thank you! Unfortunately this will fit a bit differently with fleece, unless you have a fleece that has some stretch to it... Since the knit fabric stretches to fit your form, it's easier to make it so you get a nice fitted look that stretches as you move so it's nice and comfortable, but if you're using a standard fleece that doesn't stretch, it wouldn't move with you and you'd need to make it a bit larger and looser... you could still probably get away with it if you did make it larger, it just wouldn't have the same fit. Sorry for the delay in answering your question, I have been quite behind on RU-vid comments!

@ComicatCreations

Thank you! It’s just regular tracing paper, not sewing paper (I think the brand was Strathmore but I’m sure any tracing paper would work). I had it leftover from art school projects a few years ago and since it was a large size it worked great for sewing! I’m pretty sure I got it with a coupon from AC Moore or Michaels! :) I’ve also used tissue paper for tracing patterns too! Thank you for watching my tutorial and happy sewing!

Hi, please tell where do you buy your fabrics
@ComicatCreations
@ComicatCreations 6 лет назад
I buy most of them from JoAnn Fabrics lately including this one because it’s my only local fabric shop. I used to get most of them from Hancock Fabrics before they closed down so a number of my tutorials do have fabric from them too where I stocked up before they closed. And if you’re looking to shop online there are a lot of great shops online that sell beautiful stretch knits! One shop I ordered from recently was called LA Finch Fabrics - I got some cool unique fabrics there too!

I’m so sorry it’s not playing!! I’ve had a couple comments on this and another video just in the past week that say the same thing but I’ve tried watching them on different computers and haven’t had a problem. I’ve read other comments online that have said that some videos are having trouble in general loading and that there might be a glitch on RU-vids side that is causing issues but I’m not sure if there’s anything I can do to fix it! Have you tried clearing your browsers cookies/history? I’ve read that that can help videos load. I’ll try to keep looking into it and see if I can figure anything out... I’m so sorry for the inconvenience! If you have any luck with it playing after clearing the history I’d love to know.

That’s so weird!! I’ve had a couple comments both on this video and the kimono that said the same thing but I haven’t had a problem with them and asked family to try on their devices and they didn’t have a problem either. I’ve tried looking up solutions and I did read online that other people have had a problem with some RU-vid videos loading on other channels and that they thought maybe something was going on on RU-vids side of things so I’m wondering if that’s what’s happening. I am so sorry, I will keep looking into it and will try to write RU-vid tech support to see if they can help me with what’s going on... Hopefully I’ll be able to find a solution, how frustrating! Thank you for letting me know what’s going on, and if you ever have luck with either of them playing or if you try on a different device or anything please let me know! I’m really sorry for the inconvenience!!!
