In this video I am applying a slick metallic surface to my running board.
I am using gutter flashing, this flashing comes in roles that are relatively inexpensive and have a very smooth surface.
Cost of flashing is anywhere from $10-50 depending on how much length you get.

Thanks for solving the slip surface problem for me! I started the process exactly the same way you did and had to jump on here to find a solution for the surface of the wood. This video was a blessing.

How's it holding up for you? Just cut my plywood today.

In case it helps you can actually get shutting plywood or film faced plywood which has the phenolic layer on both sides. It comes in 8 x 4ft lengths. I used the old board as a template to cut it to size and drill the holes. Works perfect, costs about 55€

Baltic Birch Plywood. .0078 thick flashing.

Doesn't work. Plywood is flexible and will make aluminum to wrinkle and come apart from the board when running over it. I followed this video, glued the flashing to the plywood and it DOES NOT WORK.

Use stainless Steel... not aluminium

120 miles on mine so far and its working well. I do use my deck on the firm option. I got a wrinkle also, but I maneuvered my contact around while running and it smoothed it out. I actually think more glue at the top and less in the rear could be beneficial.

I used layered black Formica over MDF board....a little bit more expensive but it does not wrinkle, it is firm and flexible and does not heat up with friction. Less mess...looks beautiful and it is almost 100% close to the original board.

@@AlfredoRGuillen thanks for the reply. You know, I was looking for anything online to make this and could find none. I am glad you found something that worked for you. I will do a video the next go round on looki ng at that type of wood. Please keep me updated over the miles. It will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks for posting the video and inspiring me to replace the board on my treadmill! I bought prefinished birch plywood from Home Depot. The finished surface already felt pretty slick, so I installed it on the treadmill without adding any flashing or formica. It is more rigid than the MDF board I think the manufacturer used, but otherwise so far so good.

What type of lubricant are you using and how much should be applied?

Great video. Followed every detail. Physically everything works great! Only issue I'm having is a very loud krinkle sound. I'm guessing it's an air bubble. Will that work itself out with use? Thanks!

Yes it will. And or should.

Hi truly great video I am curious as to if you've had any problem with the treadmill since putting in the new board?

None. Look at another video that I have posted about putting 1000 miles. This one will be better.

@@mdr3w hi. I'm planning to build a treadmill. Can I ask you what metal sheet did you use on the board? Aluminum or stainless steel? And how thick is it? Thank you. Hope you reply soon.
@mdr3w

@@khanhphaminh1175 thats aluminum. It's flashing for gutters. It's pretty thin.

WHAT IMPROVES ONE THING HURTS THE OTHER, THOSE TREADMILLS ARE DESIGNED BY ENGINEERS. THEY USE WOOD BECAUSE IT HEATS LESS, IF THEY HAVE NOT PLACED A STAINLESS STEEL PLATE. NOW WHAT IS GOING TO HAPPEN IS THAT THE BAND GETS HOTTER AND DETERIORATION FASTER.
