Epdm is another supposedly great roof covering, never tried it myself but felt roofs are maybe not the best for longevity. And of course there fiberglass which would last 20 plus years.

Hi there. Like yourself, never tried EPDM myself. Good quality felt is more than adequate for my needs and will perform well. The trick is not to buy the cheapo stuff - you can tear it with your hands and won't last 2 mins. ATB, Des

I don't know if you've already bought your roof covering, but a layer of roofer's felt, topped with Katepal shingles makes for a very nice covering, and they're very cheap too. Look up Katepal. Thanks for the video

Hiya buddy. The roof is already complete my friend. However, I do very much appreciate your kind input. Best wishes, Des

You need a min pitch of 12° for those shingles, which looks to be a lot more than this roof. And it’d add a lot more cost & time than heavy duty felt, plus no-one would even see them!

Enjoying the build series so far. Doing a great job. Question I have is... is it better to apply the creocote from an ice cream tub as you've done... or is it OK to use a large margarine tub? 😂
@21stcenturycaveman33
@21stcenturycaveman33 3 года назад
Well that really depends how much you need to scoop out and how far it will spread????? 😂 😂

Hey really enjoying your man cave project so far and have just finished the roof video. My question is did you mark all the OSB boards and remove the ones that had been tacked into position to cut. So process is get everything on the roof and tack. Measure to the over hangs and mark. Un tack and take down then cut to size, the take back to the roof and fix in place? Thanks so much, about to start a similar project so this has been invaluable!!

Hi there and so glad to hear that these vids have been helpful. Yes I did my friend. However, you may find that more experienced people are quite happy fixing them first and then simply trimming them up whilst in-situ. It depends how confident you are. Also, if you're using a circular saw you may not feel that comfortable using it whilst on the roof - I know I didn't. Any more queries plse get back to me. Stay safe and well, Des

you pass the sika protection on the outside of the osb panel - is it recognizable because it is smoother and the other is rougher? Thank you
@21stcenturycaveman33
@21stcenturycaveman33 5 месяцев назад
Hi there. Yes, the outside is the smoother side and does not have the print on it. ATB, Des

you put expansion joints between the wall panels ... did you do the same for the floor and roof panels?
@21stcenturycaveman33
@21stcenturycaveman33 Год назад
That's a very good question. I actually didn't do it for the floor or the roof which was my mistake. However, where the floor boards butt together they have expanded a little and therefore there are some rather small ridges where they meet. No biggie though. I'm assuming it's the same on the roof. In retrospect, I think I should have perhaps left a couple of mm gap between them and perhaps sealed using some exterior frame sealant. That said, I have had absolutely no problems whatsoever with either the floor or the roof so I'm not sure that it really makes much difference tbh. ATB, Des

Did you leave any gaps between the OSB boards? I’ve heard some people recommend one eighth of an inch but not having done it myself I’m not sure!

Hiya i enjoy your videos just wondering if you left a gap between the boards on the roof like the walls
@21stcenturycaveman33
@21stcenturycaveman33 4 года назад
That's a really good question. TBH I took a little gamble and butted them up one against the other on the basis that I would rather have a little bulge if they do expand rather than risk water coming through. A deliberate decision - rightly or wrongly. Good question that. Best wishes, Des

sorry, can i ask how thick the OSB boards are?
@21stcenturycaveman33
@21stcenturycaveman33 4 года назад
Yes of course my friend. On the roof they are 18mm. I've also used 11mm OSB to line internally after installing insulation. ATB, Des

When lifting the roof boards how many times did you or the boards go over the neighbours fence Sorry Des I had flashbacks of the boarding over a ceiling video.

Quick question, what is the advantage of this preserver vs just using creocote? - or should you use both?
@21stcenturycaveman33
@21stcenturycaveman33 2 года назад
Thanks for watching. In a nutshell, Creocote is an oily wood preserver in the sense that it helps to repel water from the timber thereby increasing the lifespan of the wood by helping to prevent the onset of rot caused by moisture, water damage., etc However, the Sika wood preserver will not waterproof the timber but will instead protect against rot and all of the other nasties named on the can. Where appropriate use both! Best wishes, Des

I have not decided on a nickname for you yet, but I'm between "Overkill" or "Bulletproof Pappa". This shed is going to be ready for whatever nature has to throw at it! Nice build so far, and I can't wait to see it finished and your children taking over such a cool space. It always happens that way as a father.

Hi , I probably missed it somewhere. Are these OSB 2 or 3? I think the 3 has more water resistance. Would the 3 absorb the treatment?
@21stcenturycaveman33
@21stcenturycaveman33 3 года назад
Hiya. OSB 3. The boards do absorb the treatment but they do take a couple of days to dry out for sure. ATB, Des

Hi - How did you create the Overhang on the roof to the sides of this? Not sure if i missed this bit?
@21stcenturycaveman33
@21stcenturycaveman33 4 года назад
Hiya Liam. Just fitted oversized timbers to the front and back by amount required on each side and screwed these to ends of rafters (front and back). Secured noggins at required intervals to sides. There's definitely a vid in the playlist somewhere mate. Let me know if you're still unsure mate. ATB, Des
