Once you wipe the cup with alcohol, it has been my experience that you should not touch the exterior of the cup with bare hands. The oils in your hands can affect the ability of the polish to adhere to the cup.

We did your 1st video and the cups (we did them together as a family, no matter how much our teenagers grouched at first)are EXACTLY what you said it was "CUSTOM". The 4 cups are super cool. Everyone that sees them always ask where I purchased them. After I explain, they all want to try it. Aside from the fact the cups have been put in the dishwasher almost daily, the cups look like the day we made them. I wanted to be creative, the boys wanted to go out and the hubby was just waiting. Well, THAT is a night WE WILL NEVER FORGET, WE LAUGHED SO MUCH, WE HAD A BLAST. I'LL TELL YOU WHAT MY DAD USED TO SAY "YOU CAN'T PLEASE EVERYONE, YOU ARE NOT A 🌮 TACO😂. Now we do something "creative" once a month (together)and take turns choosing. THANK YOU FOR YOUR 1ST VIDEO, THE CUPS YOU MADE ARE BEAUTIFUL, AND FOR US WE THINK OURS ARE PRETTY COOL. YOURS was the 1st one we did, now we make it to have dinner together minimum 3 nights a week. Plus we love spending time together, our boys learned mommy has a freaking AWESOME sense of humor. Their dad is very organized (BLAH BLAH BLAH) but he can "let go quite a bit". Thank you for giving me my family back. You have a VERY soothing, understanding voice. Your baby is very lucky!!! I loved the first attempt. I would keep those jagged peaks and outline with a black paint pen (meant for ceramic and glass) and designed faux stain glass. The colors are beautiful.

When I hydrodip, I go in at an angle and turn the cups a little to kind of roll the paint onto the cup so it is fully covered(:

I like your cups. There is nothing wrong with the way you do your art. What you do is the right way to do you art. I love it.

How about dipping mug upside down? Water won’t go inside mug and you might get whole mug covered. (How would you hold it tho? Hmmmm.... Also would using actual gloss paint work? (Gloss has enamal like nail polish). It would be cheaper in the end. I also wonder if using less color would produce a less cluttered design and let each color stand out more. You could also use clear spray lacquer as a finish coat too. I think this is a really cool idea and I loved the mugs you made.

Thank you for sharing your experiments, I especially love the colours in this video, perfect for fall🍁 and I’m a fan of the partially dipped pattern, I actually did like the result of the first dip as to me it looked like a fall coloured flower wrapped around the bottom of the cup, loved it 💕

Good job for trying. 2 suggestions, 1 is to work quick, have your lids already loose so you just pick up and pour quickly. When you do that you can marble fine. When you couldn't move it with the tooth pick on the first video it is because it had started to solidify and then it wont move. 2 is you can't re-dip which I think somebody may have told you that. You can come back and re dip once the first layer is dry and you start with new water and colors and then it will stick. I do water marbling with Marabu's marble paints and I did a project for a friend for christmas on a clear glass canister and I re dipped that darn thing so many times I lost count. Just trying to get the look I really wanted. It worked fine to re dip but it was dry each time. Good luck and as for the look of the first mugs, I loved the angled look . Bet you would never find one like that in the stores. Keep up the good work and just try, try and try again.

Love the dipping techniques. I am looking forward to experimenting. I shall try to have the dipping bowl on a rotating surface (like a lazy susan) and see if that allows use of all the nail polish. BTW I love the red background and the colored cup.

Rolling does work; you need to repeat it till you get it right - it takes practice to roll it so all of the cup's surface is hit first by the polish and not by the water underneath. You can do it about half speed, checking as you do it that all of the cup is impacting the polish surface, which only stretches so far - when you plunged the first cup straight down, it nearly worked, but it was too fast for the polish to flow into the gap so the polish mat 'broke' and the rest of the cup just went into water.

Stuff the mug, tape the top... Make a nice tape line going around the top of cup, and submerge the whole cup in.. move paint away and when you bring cup out you have to bring it out verticle... Dip, wipe away, and make like a u-turn and come back out... You can tape some kinda of way to hold it on top

I just watched both videos. You did a great JOB! Hush the naysayers! If you out the glitter 1st and it spreads then out the regular colors you get the GLITTER! If you want to use the same water DO IT! Directions I found says to bake for 10 to 15 min at 300.... but you have to keep an eye and miss alert in case it starts to burn.

Can you use other materials to dip in this nail polish? Like wood or cardboard?

I really enjoyed this. I have seen both of your videos and honestly I like the way you did it the first video with the exception of using the gloves lol. I don't think I will use the alcohol. Keep on with your videos on your dyi projects.

Soooooo... I just read all the comments here before posting this to make sure it hasn't already been suggested (it hasn't) so here goes: The time you accidentally had the heat shape on your mug reminded me of an Indian technique called Batik. They use melted wax to draw designs on fabric prior to dyeing it tie dye style. Once the dyes are dry, they use an iron and brown paper bags (they're absorbent) to melt the wax out of the fabrics. The end result is nothing short of stunning! I wonder how something like this would work in this instance? Not necessarily wax, but glue, tape, or even oils would prevent the paint groin adhering to the mug... now I'm anxious to see how that looks lol

I'm glad you did these videos. And I'm experimenting too. I don't get why people would watch your video if they already have it figured out. I'm using luke warm water so it doesn't harden so quickly but I still have to hurry. Thank God for dollar stores and moms (mine loves everything I make for her no matter how awful I do). Thank you.

BTW - I LOVED that first experiment with the heart-shaped white space. I truly didn't consider that a 'fail'. Art is always individual and unique. Thanks so much for sharing your artistic techniques, and for doing the experiments - all of this has been informative and fascinating. I think I might try your technique with glass holiday ornaments, or other small ceramic things. I was especially impressed with your color choices and how well they turned out. I was honestly turned off by the mixtures in the bowls, but once they transferred to the cups, they looked amazing together! Shows I had a lot to learn about how colors can be mixed!!! Thanks again!

I just watch both videos. I like the way you did this one first dip, because there was no nail polish by the lip of the cup, but also because I loved the colours it looked like flames going up from the bottom. I really think it’s just a matter of taste, how you like the dip straight or at an angle. I think most of the tips on the first video wasn’t meant to make you feel bad, but tips to try to improve your project. Please don’t take them as criticism but as new ideas to help you. If you feel they are negative toward you, turn the other cheek, like you did in this video trying all the other peoples ideas, and debunked a few! Good job!

How long does the nail polish Last?

You should use a larger container & dip it in another area that has more paint. I love the half mug paint design though. Thanks for the video.

I've seen it done before or car parts.. what I saw was, to turn the cup on its side then roll .. try that and see if it works :) Otherwise, I think you did a great job.

I liked your two videos. I wonder if you had a bare spot on the cup, if you waited till the first dip dried completely, if you would be able to dip a second time with new water and colors , if that would work or not. Like do the bottom half on the first dip, then let it dry completely and then do a second dip for the top half of the cup.

Would measuring the water so that it's the same height of the mug be the answer to getting the color all the way up to the top? As in, put the must in the bowl, then fill with water to the tips of the cup.

I wonder if you use a crayon & write on the cup before you dip it, would the waxed words be white after you finish the project?

I did my first coffee cups, I just submerged the whole cup bottom to top in the bowl. I tried it out first to make sure there was not going to be a overflow. The second cup, slipped off and splashed nail polish all over the place. But the second cup turned out using a very big silicone oven mitt, worked perfect. I used Sally Hansen from the dollar store. Thank you, so much for this video because I would never of had to courage to even do this! By the way, my adult son loves them!
